Poor Craig Federighi. Gets bumped from the Code conference by Jimmy Iovine. Bummer too because I like Craig and was interested in hearing what he had to say. I think it's pretty clear now that the power inside Apple resides with Eddy Cue and Phil Schiller.

The slow but steady decline of Apple as a brand, which began with the loss of Steve Jobs, and has gained momenteum since, now reaches warp speed. With all due respect, **** Tim Cook and the current brain trust. I think I will look elsewhere from here on. The manqué is bankrupt. The sense of specialness is gone. The hell with all this.

You shouldn't be buying the products because they're "special", you should be buying them because they're the best choice for you.

I don't get all the naysayers here... I'd rather wait and see before condemning Apple for this.

A lot of you have no idea how Apple works. You think of those pretty commercials with pretty people but Apple is a public company. Steve was an anal retentive sob that would have eaten you up and spat you out. You clowns should take a step back and ****!

How long till the black community called Dre a sellout, uncle tom, etc?

You KNOW it's going to be coming.

You think Dre will be branded a "sellout" for becoming a billionaire and joining the biggest company on Earth? I doubt this will happen. I can't remember a black celebrity being branded a sellout for signing a major money making deal before. I think the opposite will happen and he will be praised for this deal by everyone of all races. There are only what like 2 or 3 black billionaires in the US?

Though I think to black people who call each other sellouts are silly and ignorant, you're totally misinterpreting the reasons why they do it. Race isn't even a factor in this deal or this discussion except for those uncomfortable with a black person being an executive at Apple.

It sounds to me like Dr. Dre will have no actual role at Apple, sort of like Woz, which is a good thing. Still, it'll mean one more guy making weird statements to the press every now and again that real Apple executives will have to roll their eyes at privately. Iovine is a good acquisition though.

For everyone complaining about the headphones, it seems pretty clear that Apple wasn't that interested in them, and really just wanted the subscription service. That said, they probably won't mind the headphone business, because whether or not they're any good, it sounds like the deal will pay for itself in a few years. And who knows? Maybe Apple will put some better engineers on it and the quality will improve.

I'm curious about what Beats subscribers think of this.

This is the first time I think the cliche is actually true. I don't think this would have happened under Jobs. He would have insisted that their culture is irreproachable and they need not import another company to make a positive culture shift. I wouldn't say I admired that arrogance, but it was always entertaining to see the confident proclamation that they make the best products, no questions asked.

^ SUCH ********!

Man the veiled issues some of you have already on the first page. I specifically mentioned on the VERY FIRST forum about this news on this site that many could be seen as well -I'm not even going to say it. Let's just say I really think this is all about the ink I'm typing on and the background for which it is portrayed.

I'd really like to see your argument WHY Jobs wouldn't approve of this?! Seriously how in-depth can you go with this thought process?!

Apple has ALWAYS purchased other companies to include within their own to bolster their culture!

Regarding Music

First iPod commercial = featured hip dance music NOT Job's favorite artists like Bob Dylan!

10th iPod Commercial = featured black background and streaming lights coloured by the ipods in the hands of those dancing and I'll tell you there where NOT Country Line Dancing, nor where they doing Acro or ballroom dancing.

ART is ART! By that definition many art is cultural based especially when it comes to music but MUSIC HAS NO BASIS on RACISM NOR BIGOTRY and at it's core MUSIC has purcussion ... BEATS! which mimics the human heartbeat at it's VERY ESSENCE ... originally used to coordinate hunting before even any form of sign language was used because SOUND/Percussion can travel MUCH farther than hand gestures and allows any hunting group to be coordinated without line of sight!

Jobs had many different tastes for the flavours for music! You NEED to get your head out of whatever ignorance you have and research Dre ... and see just how much potential they can contribute to Apple!

My challenge to you is to THINK DIFFERENT! Look at ALL the people featured ... then post your favourites and then come back and state why you think Jobs would NOT approve!! he's previously specifically mentioned his adoration for Spike Lee at a WWDC on stage.

But Steve was also a shrewd business man, who knew opportunities when he saw them, and could occasionally be swayed by other members of the executive team to reverse previous positions, or at least reluctantly go along with them. It's impossible to second-guess what Steve would have done in this case.

Personally, I'm very optimistic about this deal, and there's no doubt in my mind that Tim and the team thoroughly considered it, before proceeding.

I think it's important to remember that Apple can essentially buy anyone they want at this point. They don't make acquisitions simply based on a business having a good profit margin. I'm sure they see some core value in the company, I simply question how much culture value they are expecting/wanting out of the deal. It isn't a brand recognition issue. Apple could easily make comparable or better headphones if they wanted. Beats' subscription service is very small. I don't see the big value added. I'm simply asking

terrible move... this will go down in corporate history as the blunder that it is.

:confused::confused::confused:

Not everyone can pay 19 billion for an app that takes $1 year donations from their customers. I mean how many home runs like that are out there?

Apple had to settle for paying three billion for a company that makes hundreds of millions a year.

Makes me wonder where Apple as a company is going. If I don't align well with these guys, their brand and service, will this continue to be the company I have admired for the past 30+ years? Let's hope it doesn't signal something more significant in terms of company direction.
You do realize Apple is a powerful, public company. You have no idea buddy.
I have already read Apple is a very tough company to work for. Elitist to the nth degree.

I am really not sure what to make of this, their headphones were not exactly known for their quality, and to be honest I actually only know the name Dr. Dre, but have not the slighted idea who he actually is. I like Tim, so I hope he knows what he is doing. To me the marriage between Apple and Hip Hop seems odd, but maybe I am just ignorant...

So, Dre isn't really a billionaire like he said in his now infamous video, then? Another article on this site suggests he'll cop for $750m from this deal through his stake in the company, and I find it hard to believe he's presently worth the additional $250m.

OK, he'll never have money worries - but still, false advertising! :p

Dre is already worth and estimated $80million. Add the money from the beats deal and its way over $1billion. You sound like a hater anyway....

Problem with a deal like this is, Apple is starting to think the same.

Lol. I waver between being annoyed and then amused by the absurd overly dramatic hyperbole we read every day here on MR. Personally I applauded this news only because of the doomsdaying we'd read from the people who will be losing sleep over this. People predicting Apple's approaching demise are alway unintentionally entertaining,
