Is that right out of some press release or do you work in the PR department of one or the other company? I guess this could be a personal opinion but it doesn't read like one to me. Nevertheless, I'm glad you're happy with this and hope you enjoy whatever does come of it.

I'm genuinely excited (as most consumers are) as to what Apple and Beats will collectively create. I'm expecting Apple devices to be optimised to deliver the most incredible audio experience possible when paired with Beats headphones. We could get that new HD audio format built for Beats. And Beats Music to be upgraded to make those incredible sounds available to music subscribers as well as iTunes consumers.

This is just the obvious of course. I'm sure Cook, Iovine, Dre and Cue have much more thrilling magic planned for each and every one of us.

I think the future is incredibly exciting for anyone who loves great music. And these industry titans coming together is a day that will probably never be forgotten.

still not sure this was a good idea, but time to move on...

Ive never looked into streaming services. Whats the difference between Beats and itunes Radio?

I am seeing all of these unbelievable negative responses to this acquisition and how this may be Apple's worst business move. My question is how many of you have built a successful multi-million dollar or multi-billion dollar company ?

These people at apple are experienced business people with some of the smartest and most talented people under their roof and you guys know without any doubt that this will destroy the company. Do you think that Apple made a multi-billion dollar decision by doing a grab bag and blindly picked from a bunch of random companies ? Do you think maybe they made the deal because the daughters of the senior executives thinks Eminem is cute and since Dre works with Eminem they went for it blindly ?

Another thing is the tired "Steve Jobs (R.I.P) would never..." response to every move this company makes, yes, Steve was a visionary, but he was mainly the figure head and the face of the company, he did not create all the things we like about this company without the sweat and exhausted brain cells of very very talented people. I like many of the things he stood for, but please give the team their due credit.

All i'm saying is to give this thing a chance to show and prove, before making calls. There are way too many computer chair fortune tellers here.

That is all. Let the hot poop in a bag throwing begin.

Lead finance analyst here for a software company with a 50 million customer base....

This may be a very shrewd move for Apple. The intellectual capital that Jimmy Iovine alone carries in the entertainment industry (for those old enough to remember just how long he's been around) is by itself worth most of this deal (in terms of future operating cash flows he's likely to help secure) and the brand/image of Dr. Dre, his marketing insights (yes, there is something to be said of a what, 97% gross margin?)....

We've had our share of strategic acquisitions this year, to the tune of maybe half a billion on $5 billion in annual revenue, a tremendously larger chunk than what Apple is staking here. What Apple's getting in return, however, can secure their future because of the connections that Iovine and Dre bring to the table, which is not to be underestimated.

I would love to see a parody of Tim Cook partying up like what Dr. Dre did. That would be hilarious. Conan should do it.

It could be another thread 500. :)

OMG you're so right. Forgot about that. Don't forget that just a couple of months ago, people were predicting Apple's demise because it was rumored that they'd be selling a gold 5s. Some people just can't get to sleep until they insisted that Apple was doomed at least once during the day.

Reverting to the mean

Nothing about Apple post Jobs should be too surprising.

Tim Cook = John Sculley 2.0

Apple is reverting to the mean.

Unfortunate that they didn't buy someone with any idea how to, you know, make headphones.

Of course it was never about the headphones. Cook's announcement to his employees clearly emphasized the streaming service. BTW, I'm not saying it's money well spent, but the "Beat's headphones suck" argument completely ignores the point of this deal. For what it's worth, Apple has been selling their headphones for years now in Apple Stores.

Oh my god, calm down dude. So they bought a company that will help their declining iTunes sales and breath a little life into their tired music business. The Mac is still the Mac. The iPad is still the iPad. The iPhone is still the iPhone. OS X is OS X. iOS is iOS. Aluminium is still silver. Jony Ive is still British. Relax. Apple will be fine and so will you.

This needs to be reposted to every apple fanboy freaking out post in this thread.

Makes me wonder where Apple as a company is going. If I don't align well with these guys, their brand and service, will this continue to be the company I have admired for the past 30+ years? Let's hope it doesn't signal something more significant in terms of company direction.

You should have gotten this upset years ago...when Apple started selling Beats' products in their stores. Do you honestly believe this represents a fundamental change in Apple's values? If so, can you explain? I don't see that big of a difference.

Exactly and that's why Tim Cook is the CEO of a company with over $100 billion in the bank and Dre is a multiplatinum recording artist/record producer who was smart enough to get Apple to buy his company for billions....while you're sitting here on your computer posting on internet forums. ;)

^this x1,000

I just don't understand what they mean to gain from this.

This is why you and 80% of the people posting will never have $150 billion to spend on anything.

How many Apple products do not have a sound component?

How many companies lease Beats technology?

Imagine what Apple can add to the beats streaming service with all their muscle? They only have several HUNDRED MILLION iTunes users to entice to sign up for the service at $10 a month.... do the math

These #%#%)#(% speakers in my MacBook suck. MacBook with beats audio? Yeah, I'm loving that.... or imac...or ipad....

The iPod is nearly dead. Sales are almost nothing today, because people use their phones. The people who still use iPods tend to have simple iPods that are more gym friendly, or kids who parents still won't trust with a smart phone. I think it would be painless, and quite a selling point, to put the iPod into the head phones.

Sound bars?

Car audio packages that come with IOS in the car and iPod/Beats as features?

You also probably missed that beats does $1billion a year in rev on their own with only a few products in the pipe line, and without the R&D and development arena apple has.

So seriously people.... there is a reason you will never have $3 billion to spend.

Lets also not forget with a marriage to apple, they can get components cheaper.... I love these posts as much as the tear down posts where people try to claim they know the cost of a device by using street prices for parts that apple never comes close to paying.

An absurd comparison. Apple's net worth has gone up under Cook, a trend that doesn't appear to be reversing anytime soon.

yes if steve jobs' was still alive, downloadable music would still be popular. god damn it tim! get it together!

3bn to replace steve jobs' is actually amazingly cheap.

Steve Jobs is the reason Apple didnt come up with a streaming service like Spotify sooner. Or an 8" iPad or a big iPhone. The man was human like everyone else.

You're missing an "Apple is doomed!" or two. A 1 out of 10 at best.

Ok so you think Tim's decision to buy this ghetto brand for $3 billion was a good one for Apple's tight and high class brand that Apple has created and maintained for so long? Please explain to me why you think this was a good decision. Steve would NEVER agree to buy this garbage company.

So a dude who once grabbed a woman by her hair and slammed her against a brick wall, tried unsuccessfully to chuck her down a flight of stairs, chased her into a women's restroom and punched her repeatedly in the head, kicked her in the ribs and threw her through a door is an Apple executive now. That's interesting I guess.

Take some time to read up on history. You will find a lot of celebrated heroes who did horrible things in their past. People who help change the world.

Interesting, huh?

How long till the black community called Dre a sellout, uncle tom, etc?

You KNOW it's going to be coming.

Nah. Apple products are really popular with young black folks. I own a recording studio near a major urban center so I get a lot of young black rappers in the studio... iPhones and Apple laptops are ubiquitous, and Beats headphones too. Apple is embracing the urban youth market.

The funny thing to me is, just as they start selling to this market, they stop building a suitable workstation for my studio. So they are on the way out from my market. Apple is shifting with the times, which is good if you're a young urban type with money to waste, I guess. I'll roll with a hackintosh.

Ghetto brand? Garbage company? Any FACTS to support this post?
