Apple Announces 50th Anniversary Plans

They've become enslaved by the share holders trying to be all things to all people. They're losing their identity at this point, the attention to detail and care for the end user experience especially on the software and os side is approaching microslop levels of bad recently.

I guess “35 Years of Thinking Different plus 15 of Screwing the Pooch” doesn’t have the same catchy ring to it.

But you're looking at it in a very one-sided -if not blindfolded- kind of way 🙂

Those very coat tails and stock valuations you mention are why you can buy so many exceptional Apple products, at such a low price. Like my MacBook, which frankly beats anything in the market near or over its price by a good margin; dirt cheap for what it does, we're talking literally crappy Intel laptops at this price range.
And that's just one example.

He made that happen. If you don't sell by the boatload, it's just not possible to lower your prices so much that no one can beat you in the game; and he managed that, your criticism notwithstanding. Fair's fair.
* also, i kinda think this is exactly why he got the position in the first place? Between you and me? This is precisely what was expected of him when the reins were handed over. An insane undertaking, yet one that he pulled off in the end.
** i lastly feel.. hesitant to "criticise" someone who has achieved so much in their life. Don't know about you, but i kinda fall short of the 73KK he's making annually? Maybe you don't, i wouldn't know.

Cook is NOT a 'think different' kind of guy. And were Jobs still alive and at the helm, he would still be a visionary who would be creating products that people want to need and would be partnering with people who can bring *WOW* to Apple products. By many counts, the man was insufferable, but he was insufferably transformational and always seemed to see the customer as more important than the stock holder. Jobs is what MADE people willing to pay more than they ever imagined for a simple phone because it was no longer a simple phone.

Oh, One more thing...

If Apple was privately owned they would be throwing a party every anniversary. But the shareholders may sue if Apple does anything that isnt eff you pay me. Really throws a bucket of cold water on anyone who was a fan back when Apple wasnt doing so good. They should sell memorabilia on their anniversary. One of the few tech companies that could get away with such a thing. If you could only get such merch every 10 years, imagine what kind of a stampede that would be to get your hands on something so limited?
 
As an Apple Fan (not fanboi), I’ll skip their instagram account. I get more info from forums like this than often from Apple themselves.

Mine for sure. Our whole family is Apple (MBP, Studio, mini, watches, iphones, ipads). I even sucked my ex into an iPhone (as a second phone). He really likes the MBP but is a Samsung/Windows person.
 
Apple started with the Mac. I would love to see a new iMac as part of the anniversary. My 2019 iMac is dying and, I know that one should get a new one when you need it rather than waiting for some rumored future release. It's just that the current iMacs are from 2024, almost 2 years old.

April 1, 2026 is the 50th anniversary of what? Is it the 50th anniversary of Tim Cook’s accomplishments and the accomplishments of his team? No, it’s not.

April 1, 2026 is the 50th anniversary of Apple’s founding. Apple only has three founders, one of which is Ronald Wayne.

Can Cook and his supporters just back off for one day and allow the only two living co-founders of Apple to have their special moment, where they are the center of attention?

You make a good point but again I think as his time at Apple was so short that he'll barely get more than a passing mention at most.

What I would like to see are interviews & such with people involved with various products at Apple such as Tony Fadell & the iPod, Scott Forstall, Bertrand Serlet, Susan Kare and others talk about their time at the company. Honestly I think Forstall would be perhaps the most interesting one to listen to.

I do miss him in Apple keynotes
