Lightning to USB-C? What!!?? They couldn’t even go full USB-C on a pair of headphones? That should be an indicator the lightning port isn’t going anywhere. 20 hour battery Life too is not competitive, Sony wh-1000xm3 have been out over 2 years, have full USB-C support and a 30 hour battery life.

At least they didn’t call them pro or studio, neither of which is possible with these! Without a wire, headphones are useless for recording music.
I haven’t seen anything about that, but being that the headphones are equipped with lightning to USB-C for charging, it is conceivable that they may work as a wired set on a Mac. Time will tell. As for me, out of my price range

Audiophiles usually buy higher end headphones in the $1000+ range. This is for people who are looking for a premium version of $300 to $400 NC headphones, which is still very high but not too crazy. Judging by the sound they've managed to push out of the HomePods it'll likely sound very good as well.
What? The Homepod Mini at least is the worst sounding speaker in my house, aside from a $30 Alexa that it just barely beats out.

Ordered! 🤓

It's weird that the conversion doesn't match at all on these AirPods. 549usd = 700cad, but right now it's 779 + tx

$549 plus $59 if you want warranty coverage. I am sure they sound great but, wow, those are some expensive headphones. Half way to a new iPhone 12 Pro is a bit out of my price range for headphones. Will stick to my XM3's for now.

I bought 1k< headphones more than once, but none was limited to lossy files. :D

I mean, this has two M1 chips, why the heck Apple didn't use this to full potential? They could've have Airplay 2, and solid DAC, and lot of things. This way, they are just a toy for noobs.

Nope! Don’t want another pair of headphones. If Tim Cook wants my money he can FINALLY upgrade the 3 year old AppleTV. It’s obscene they sell this ancient tech for full price. I need to buy 4 of them!
I'm not sure it needs an upgrade. We have an Apple TV 4K, two Fire Stick 4Ks, and a latest gen Roku TV. Performance and feature-wise, the Apple TV 4K performs better than the others. I mean, I can even play Apple Arcade games on the Apple TV without any issues. I know there are games for the Fire Stick and the Roku but it's no comparison performance wise. I can even pair one of my PS4 controllers with my Apple TV. Also the streaming apps for the Apple TV are on-par with the iPhone/iPad equivalent versions.

That all being said, the remote remains a terrible design, and there's a reason I also own two Fire Sticks and a Roku TV. The Apple TV 4K is, like these AirPod Max headphones, too damn expensive. But if you have one, it's still probably the best 4K streamer on the market in terms of performance and capabilities, hence my opinion about them not needing an upgrade.

Just like beats headphones but Apple

Apple today introduced new wireless over-ear headphones called AirPods Max, with key features including high-fidelity audio, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, and spatial audio. Priced at $549, the headphones can be ordered starting today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app, with availability beginning December 15.

AirPods Max come in five colors, including space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink. Apple says the headphones feature a "breathable knit mesh" spanning the stainless steel headband that distributes weight to reduce on-head pressure.

Apple says the ear cups have acoustically engineered memory foam to create an effective seal, and the telescoping headband arms smoothly extend and then stay in place to maintain the desired fit on your head.

AirPods Max feature a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver that is said to provide "rich, deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension." Each ear cup is equipped with Apple's H1 chip for "computational audio" to deliver the "highest quality listening experience possible," according to Apple.

Similar to the Apple Watch, AirPods Max feature a Digital Crown on one ear cup for precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri voice control.

AirPods Max come with a carrying case called the "Smart Case" and a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box.

All of it I would dismiss, if it weren’t for audio sharing.
Having the kids share an iPad for a 10 hour drive is invaluable.

the lightning port is not a surprise but if Apple is shifting away from lightning ports on the phone, why not give us a little extra convenience in usb c? I have tons of those by now. The iPhone lightning is the outlier in my life. Not the standard. I’m not being pulled back in for that.

I’m half a step out of the ecosystem at this point anyway.
you could buy each of them an iPad and their own decent headphones for the same amount as these?

I ordered them. If they are great I'll keep them. If I find them anything less than perfect they will go back. At $549 this should be a no compromise experience.

Although, Apple can't get much cheaper. When you go to check out here is what you are greeted with.

Of course no brick (ENVIRONMENT!!) but no Audio Cable? My God they are penny pinching to the extreme. I don't know how sustainable a model this is going to be for them moving forward. They could really alienate some people doing this.

A lot of lazy hot takes here...The idea of having a head position sensor and active DSP has been the dream of headphone design for a long time. This should provide a completely different headphone experience one that is more like listening to speakers. There is nothing else like this on the market.
