Lmfao, $550. Next year they'll have to lower it at least by $100 like they had to for HomePod.

I've just spoken to Apple on live chat - the battery is replaceable with Apple like the iPhone etc.

And wow - the price!

Battery service fee: £ 309

that canopy is ugh. kinda ruins the nice aesthetic for me. but i'd like to see them in person. the green looks quite unusual in a good way. i got so used to not having large headphones sit on my head though...

At last. An Apple product that I have exactly zero interest in, entirely because of price. These cans are more than half way to the new Mac mini. Nope and nope.

550$ wait what? For a headphone? WAIT WHAT !?

There are a *ton* of headphones that cost more, some as much as 10x this much. Just head over to head-fi. $550 is decidedly mid-level.

That said, the price point on these came out to the higher end of what I was expecting for these, but not unheard of being slightly more than 2x the price of Airpod Pros.

I have access to an Apple Employee discount in the family so had some ordered to test them out in comparison to my Sony XM4 (which are on sale for $278 at Amazon at the moment–about what I paid for mine as well).

Genuinely expect to return them considering the price, but want to see how they match up. The Sonys are pretty remarkable and really excel in all areas. Apple’s extended holiday return window means I have until January 8 to test them out.

Apparently these have a lightning port so you could use a lightning to 3.5mm cable with them.

I'm curious if it allows direct analog connection through the lightning connector. AFAIK lightning is digital only so you're going to have Analog input----->lightning adapter converts to digital---->AirPods Max. That's less than ideal if listening through cable.

They look nice and I am sure they sound great, but I personally have no use for such an item. Especially at that price. $349 or $399 and I think you'd get some of the fringe buyers that Apple relies on.

$550 without an option to use a 3.5mm plug when the internal batteries are extremely weak in a few years. so much for studio headphones. Unless they can transmit sound when plugged in via lighting they will be useless. I paid less than $500 for my current headphones 35 years ago and they still work. these will not work in 35 years.

Sure if that’s the market Apple is going after. But most likely they’re going to be compared to cheaper options just like the HomePod was. I will be curious to see who gets review units.
ANYONE who says 'super excited' and 'totally awesome' a lot.

Prepared to eat my words if it's not the case, but I'd certainly be surprised if these sound as good as anything in their own price range. If they did they'd be $1,000, Apple aren't known for competitive pricing...

I'll stick to my JBL over-ear headphones thanks. Sorry Apple. Outrageous price for these.

I'm okay with the price tag.

But if and only if it's lossless on Wireless (at least 44khz 16 bit without any lossy compression, as I'll use it with Tidal)

But if for this price tag I get a 256kbps AAC recompression as with the standard airpods, then no, thanks, I wouldn't even buy for $100.
Sound nerd alert! J/K, but I have no idea what any of that means. I just wouldn't buy them because I see NO value in $550 headphones. I don't work in the music industry, and my ears can't tell a difference.
