More accurately they prey on the fact that most buyers don't know that they are paying a premium price for subpar tech. A perfect example is the lack of a 120 screen on the iphone 12. Flame away.
Yes, most consumers are stupid and don’t know what they want. Personally, I didn’t know I needed a 120Hz screen that I cannot discern from a 60Hz screen, but thanks for letting me know.

I would say the only thing that sucks with these and makes no sense to me, is that the surround sound only works with iPhones and iPads, and not with the Apple TV ! Isn't while watching a movie on a big flat-screen that the simulated surround sound makes more sense ?

Sounds like a software issue that will be remedied.

Then you haven't used one because if you had you would absolutely not say you can't discern the difference. It's night and day. Wait until next year when the iphone 13 does 120 two years late to the party and everyone talks about how amazing it is. Heard it here first.

I tried the XM3 and ended up with the Bose 700 which I love. Don't know if the XM4 is substantially different than the XM3
Supposedly the xm4 just has better call quality and noise cancellation over the 3’s. I’m mostly concerned about sound and comfort.

My research led me to summarise it as Bose 700s for call quality, Sony XM4s for audio quality.

The XM4s have bigger earcups than the XM3s so potentially fit better. The XM4s have much better software than the 700s. The Bose forums are full of people with issues, especially around pairing to multiple devices.

These new Apple headphones may combine the good bits of both (i.e. great sound and great call quality) in which case their price doesn't seem so mad. Plus, the "crown" may be more reliable than swiping when wearing winter gloves!

Battery life shouldn’t be so low.

I have the Bose 700 and they got ridiculed for being only 20 hours.

There’s nothing on these headphones that make me think they’ll be better than the Bose or MX4, besides the auto switching.

Audio with BT5 can’t be much better than the Sony or Bose and they didn’t identify and high quality compression/uncompressed algorithms. So not sure how the reviews will be.

Also buttons and charger port on the top? I need to look again but they look to be in the most nonsensical position

Only other issue for me that the ear cups are fabric? I’m black and have locs, so I moisturise my hair and face so things get greasy!

I would have anticipated something more innovative, perhaps with planar magnetic drivers for instance. It seems Apple’s transition from a high end tech innovator to a luxury designer brand for gadgets continues apace...
Headphones with planar drivers are freakin huge for one thing...not mobile devices. And they offer no theoretical advantages when used in a headphone.

I find the Bose 700 extremely comfortable and have not had issues with the sound. Though I use them for TV and movies mostly so I may not be the best source if you would listen to a lot of music on them.

This, right here, is what’s wrong with the internet. Don’t tell me what I’ve used. I own and use an iPad Pro every day with 120hz. I see no noticeable difference between that and my iphone 11. “Someone has a different opinion than me so he must be ignorant.”

So let's get one thing straight on connectivity...the Apple page lists Bluetooth 5.0 as the sole connectivity option. Given that there are no jacks on the headphone, I assume you can only feed AAC files to the headphone. We can discuss the merits of AAC high fidelity, but there is no doubt that the lack of the ability to feed lossless audio/pure PCM audio to the headphones is a major setback, especially for 549 British pounds...
No it isn’t. You should read about whether not humans can tell the difference once you get above 200kbps in properly executed A/B and A/B/X testing. Short story: you can’t. It’s a myth born out of retrofitting data to experience (i.e. something like this: “There’s no data loss so it must be better...yep...oh yeah, I can totally hear the difference. It’s just richer, fuller.”) Don’t go apoplectic. It’s not personal. You just can’t, any more than you can appreciate a tweeter with a hilarious 30kHz frequency response. I think this information is what people should get straight.

Given that even people on welfare have the regular AirPods now, we needed a new "I got money to blow" symbol the AirPods used to be.

On a serious note, given how often AirPods are on sale nowadays maybe Apple is wanting to inflate the price to be able to offer "deals" more often than they have historically.

Easy. Just trying to have an informed discussion. I didn't say you are ignorant. I find it very hard to believe that you cannot perceive a difference. If there wasn't a difference Apple wouldn't have implemented it in the ipad pro. Certainly reasonable minds can disagree over whether it's a difference that matters to them, but 120 is objectively superior to 60.

The thing is, I'm an iPhone/iOS user and an Apple ecosystem customer. Whether the iPhone has a 120Hz refresh or not is definitely not enough to make me switch to a different phone and different ecosystem and then switch back. Seriously, what is the point of that? iPhones will get that feature when they get it. Honestly, what other phones have is only of mere interest, essentially nothing at this time would make me move to a non-iOS phone. I can tell you that I'm not alone, and it has nothing to with being a fanboy or not, it's all about practicality and about iPhones being a great tool as they are.

As others have stated, the price isn’t out of line compared to other products in this particular market segment. There are more expensive cans out there, and some require a preamp. Maybe the Max cans can deliver a high quality sound wirelessly and without the need for a preamp? That would definitely make this product stand out, and quite impressively.
