All this excitement over a gps tag that has been offered in the power tool and construction world for 5 years at the same price....

These aren't really good for your dog. They have to be close by (like close enough that you can see them) or close to someone else with an iPhone. Much better off with a real GPS collar. Friend's dog collar lets him pull it up anywhere in the world, turn on the light on the collar, buzz it and more. Cost $10 a month, which isn't bad if you're really worried about losing your dog. We were just up at the cabin and he was out in the field. AirTags wouldn't have been able to locate him. You can also set geo zones so you're alerted if they go outside the yard and other alerts.
There’s what, 2 billion iOS devices in the world? This will be much more precise then GPS

Ummm 🧐

this not the innovation itself. It’s the fact that this tag will transmit location data that’s built into tracking capabilities built into every single iPhone sold starting in iPhone 11. Overtime tracking will get better since unified nature of apple system will result in iPhone being sold and being capable of tracking. I’m putting on on my dog. I never want to lose this little big German shepherd. She’s not a runner but I’d want to be able to recover her in the even there’s an emergency.

and yes gps tracking for pets have been around but you gottta pay $$$ per month. On top of the unit itself since it uses cellular to transmit location. The fact that iPhones are so prevalent here it’s going to be very accurate.

This looks awesome but where's the freaking hole for being able to attach it to stuff, like keyrings, dog tags, etc?

Definite deal breaker if it doesn’t have a hole and the battery isn’t rechargeable or replaceable. Chipolo’s is replaceable, and has a hole.

As in a replaceable battery? Where did you see that? Because it looks like you'd have to replace the whole unit.

Bet it will be like the AirPods. Totally disposable in the name of small packaging. I hope I’m wrong.
You are wrong.

3. AirTag is designed for over a year’s worth of battery life with everyday use. The CR2032 battery is user-replaceable and widely available. Replacement batteries are sold separately.”

So does the anti-tracking feature mean I can't attach this to my bike to track it if it gets stolen because the thief will know they're being tracked?!? This is the only thing I wanted to buy these for!!
Then you've misunderstood how they and any similar tech works. It doesn't have a GPS tracker in it. This is local only, or happenstance, eg if someone with a Apple device is nearby. And has the feature turned on,

You are wrong.

I’m happy I’m wrong!!!!!
