do you realize, that I don't want to use the crappy iPod earplugs but my highend ones that cost more than the device?

Point, but my point was that it isn't like it is not possible to have buttons (You see a lot of posts saying buttons isn't available anymore, I'd like to point out they are. But, yes, it does require you buy headphones that have the remote and it also requires you like the remote. I do realize some like the clickwheel but in my opinion I prefer the remote anyways).

And, there are plenty of nice headphones besides Apple's that do have the remote (I have a set cause I also wanted one that would work with my iphone, including the microphone so I can take calls which limits my selection even more than just wanting the remote).

well, this made me chuckle:

Waiting for mine

Ordered mine in Australia, got a shipping date of 16 sep, delivery 22 sep. Weird though that they haven't billed me for it yet.

Also in a seperate purchase ordered Apple TV and was charged for it, but delivery date is just September.

Same thing happened with the belkin hdmi cable I just ordered as well.

So you are basing your opinion on the lack of information posted by Apple? For the record, the tech specs on the iPhone say nothing about it being an IPS display either.

Were is the contrast ratio posted for the iPod new touch? You say it is lower than the iPhone, but provide no details showing what it is.

Were is the viewing angle posted for the iPhone, or iPod touch? You say the iPod touch has lower viewing angles, but again provide no details.

Were are the color.... nevermind they don't exist for either device.

Judging by hands on photos / videos posted on the net regarding the the iPod Touch. It appears to have similar contrast ratio, and great viewing angles. Pictures also appear to show that the glass is either anti glare, or has some kind of coating (possibly oleophobic??).

Regardless, until we see a detailed comparison posted, or more detailed tech specs, lets leave our observations on the table , as opposed to pinning them on the fact board. You may be 100% correct, however I don't see anything published to support the claims you are making.

More and more 3th party reviews are flowing in and thus you should agree now. It's not the same display. Not an IPS panel.

Thanks,

Chief

Well the debate wasn't wether or not the display was exactly the same, it was regarding it being a TN panel v.s. an IPS. I don't think I ever stated they were exactly the same display, as I avoid posting assumptions as fact.

Also, remember at the time this debate started, there were not (and still aren't) facts indicating exactly what technology is inside the new iPod Touch (as far as Displays go).

Regardless, with the more detailed photos, it does look like it is of a lesser quality than the iPhone 4 Display, however I still haven't seen any definitive information as to what technology the display has.

That being said, based on currently available photos, it is highly likely that the display is not IPS! And, based on my current feeling, I will gladly stand down, regardless of the still current lack of actual hardware facts.

There are adapters for around $14-$19 for the Shuffles, and any other current iPod that add the in-line remote to any set of headphones. I use one when I'm using my custom molded Westone in-ear monitors (a $900+ pair of earphones), and it works just fine with the 3rd gen (buttonless) Shuffle. If it'll work with these headphones, it'll work for any other non-Apple headphones.

I'm pretty sure that additional specifications will pop up eventually. Hopefully before people start suing Apple. I've e-mailed Apple for damage control and hope to see some action soon.

the new nano just sucks!

Without trying I know that, why? It has no tactile buttons for the basic controls anymore!

Ever since the first walkman, all mobile music devices offered tactile controls the basic functionality of their primary task: play/pause, next/previous, fastforward/rewind, volume up/down. After quickly learning the controls one could easily use a musicplayer (discman, walkman, mp3player) blindly! Why is that important, well:
  1. I'm in bed and I wanna skip that song, rewind a bit etc. etc. without having to blind myself by having to look at a shiny LED screen that would disrupt my falling asleep! --> useless device
  2. I'm running and I just want to adjust volume or skip a song without having to hold that thing in front of my face and having to stare at the screen. --> new nano = useless device
  3. I'm walking in the rain and have my iPod in my hand, in the pocket of my rain jacket and now I want to skip, fforward, etc. --> again: new nano = useless

I can think of loads of situations where I depend on a tactile interface for such a device. The iPod nano was the perfect portable Music-Player, now it's not! Shuffle is the only one left that can be controlled blindly, yet you can never handpick a song on that, WTF! An iPhone or iPod Touch is a different class of device, much more powerful and those are not intended as dedicated music players, people usually look at the screen anyways, but the PURE iPod?!? Come on! All this crazyness about touch-displays, does Apple not have a single employee who is intelligent enough to grasp that pure touch-control may not always be desirable, maybe even render certain devices useless in like half the situations they're generally operated in?

The best iPod is now DEAD! Apple had better dedicated music-players five years ago! Shame on you Steve! When my 3rd gen nano (=phatpod) dies I'll be looking for a clickwheel one. If I can't find one then I sure as hell have to purchase an mp3 player of some competitor, great move, Apple, you just rid yourself of one (or maybe millions) of (so far) happy customers, laughable!

cool :D sep 2011 is just a year away, they will correct it like they did with iPod shuffle.

option 1 - $149 - 2nd Gen iPod touch (refurbhised) units looks rock solid compared to the newer iPod nano .

option 2- get the older model iPod nano while they are still available.

Last year i bought my wife old iPod shuffle (with buttons) she was happy even it was refurbhised. we both did not like sticky iPod shuffle.

the best option is to vote with the wallet - if you do not like one particular design - like we did

I ended up going with option 2 and ordered a 5th gen nano refurb 16gb yellow model for $149. Selling my 4th gen 16gb nano yellow on eBay.
