Apple Announces All-New iPod Models: Shuffle, Nano and Touch

I am really BLOWN AWAY! 1 iPod Touch for me! Truly amazing, actually more than i wanted. HD recording, VGA photo's, truly everything i wanted for a major update to the iPod Line!

It does have a built in mic, if anyone was wondering! Ahhh, im soo excited! :D

:D:D:D

The 10.5.8 requirement for OS X on all these new devices is quite disappointing. Why are they supporting XP (released in 2001), but not OS X Tiger (Released in 2005)?

Even skinnier huh? Wonder what camera they got in there.

alas, not the 5MP camera I (and probably many others) were hoping for.

This is the one feature I've been hoping for in the iPod Touch for 2 years now.

I actually like the quirky, sometimes good/sometimes bad appearance of phone cams. Now, with HDR in iOS 4.1 - it makes me wish for decent camera in the Touch even more.

Facetime? Couldn't care less about it. Even my techiest of tech friends don't do video conference on their iPhones - if they do video at all...it's on Skype...on a desktop/laptop at home..not on the fly.

<sigh> Maaaaybe next September

I have no idea why they would implement 1280x720 video, but only 960x720 stills. I new they would gimp the still capability on the touch.

perhaps it's more of a hardware related reason, i mean im surprised they fit such a big camera in such a thing device.

-128gb would be to costly do you wanna pay 500 bucks for a ipod touch?
-Lack of 3G would kill iphone sales this thing already has cameras and retina display that is plenty for a "gaming device".
-This has been the best update to the ipod touch since it's release so be happy about it :)

I am still not clear on this -- with the new iPod Touch, can you make Skype calls over wifi without headphones or a microphone? In other words, are there a built in speaker and mic that can be used for this purpose?

it has a built-in mic?

i didn't notice that on the specs page. All the spec page states (under input that it accepts) is "Microphone" which is distinctly listed from "built-in speaker"

The Nano WAS the one I am most excited for, and has become the biggest failure of the show.

Embarrassing price tier for the Nano (too far from Shuffle too close to Touch), barebone features, touch screen that doesn't do much for a machine this small, iPod Touch wannabe instead of a class of its own...

Does the new Nano still support disk mode?

If not, and given that it appears to be iOS derived, count me out. I'l take a previous gen at knock down price thanks.

Gigantic meh from me.

I have a MiniDisplayport ---> HDMI cable to show movies/TV shows on my HDTV, so I don't need Apple TV. Don't want to rent my content.

Already have a smart phone - haven't touched my Touch in at least a year.

Nano was basically crippled down to a premium Shuffle. Shuffle is back to the old design.

So out of this, I got a new version of iTunes with features I won't use. Rad.

Glad I just ordered the previous generation iPod Nano.

ANd I lol'ed when I saw the Shuffle had buttons again.. foolish Apple. The next Nano update will probably have buttons too.

ipod shuffle design is a winner

It's very nice that Apple went back to this design for the ipod shuffle. It is the perfect ipod for a gym, doing yard work, or any other situation where you don't want to pull out your expensive, fragile, and big ipod or iphone. With the buttons, you can navigate your playlist without looking at it... It's the perfect design, and if it accidentally hits the ground, its small and rugged enough to handle it, and affordable enough to replace if it doesn't :) Good move; now if only you'd get the Iphone4 to be able to record stereo audio......

There are more XP users than OS X users (all versions) worldwide. That is not a valid argument. (IMHO)

The majority of iOS devices are sold to windows users simply because windows is the dominant OS. Because of the dog that was Vista many people didn't upgrade so if Apple didn't support XP they would lose out on a lot of sales.

Not saying i agree with the move though...

I pretty much feel like the nano is now the 3rd generation shuffle of the current line up. What a really poor decision.

well look, if you buy a mac in the past three years you will get leopard. if you own a mac older than 3 years it's either time for u to buy a new machine, or upgrade your OS.

XP on the other hand, were still the preferred OS for PC until last year. the majority of business shipped XP on their machines w/ XP (skipping Vista) until this year, while many continue to do so. in other words, XP is on many new machines while Tiger is only on old machines that should be upgraded.

Also, it's far cheaper and easier to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard ($29 disk) than upgrading from XP to Windows 7. This is another reason XP support is important because many ppl bought XP in the last 2 years are stuck w/ it for a while.

Wow, I was thinking of buying a (sim-free) iPhone 4 this week. But now I might hang on to my 2G iPhone purely for phone calls, and get an 8GB iPod Touch.

For 229 euro the iPod Touch offers almost the same as the 599 euro iPhone 4! It's just the same except the high-res cam (don't care), 3G/voice chip and GPS. That's a 360 euro markup for those 3 parts. Wonder if it has the same 512MB of RAM that the iPhone 4 has.
