So then Apple pledged to invest $430 billion under Biden to placate Biden then?
No. Because Biden never threatened them, so they had no need to placate him. Bothsidesism isn't an argument when both sides aren't the same.

And I’m happy that investment is coming back to the US. It will create jobs, and not just jobs with Apple. It will boost towns and cities, create jobs that service the new buildings and the workers there. It will also mean we’re building sensitive technologies domestically rather than relying on hostile foreign powers and countries under threat from those powers.

I just don’t care about the politics and who is in charge. Again, I just want good things to happen for the US. Why don’t you?
Because there is more to the world than "more investment good". I believe in freedom and democracy. The president lying about a national emergency, so that he can threaten American companies unless they do what he wants is a disgusting abuse of power.

Still relevant only because of their nuclear capability and military

Lots of countries have a nuclear arsenal (yet you didn’t count any if them). Meanwhile, the 10+ year invasion of Ukraine is revealing their military capabilities to be a lot lower than estimated. I mean when you have to start bringing warriors from North Korea…

Placation at its best. How much of this money was already going to be spent on building out infrastructure around AI?

No. Because Biden never threatened them, so they had no need to placate him. Bothsidesism isn't an argument when both sides aren't the same.

C'mon really? As I have said previously, I don't like Trump, but the ridiculous reaches some of ya'll are going to.. I don't know what ya'll are thinking. No one is taking arguments like that seriously. There are legitimate reasons and topics to argue against Trump. Serious reasons. This isn't one of them and when people start making arguments like this and overreacting, other people start ignoring them, and then when the actual serious topics come up, no one will listen to it.

The Apple deal involves multiple companies signing contracts with Apple. This isn't Apple going in with a solo deal they can yoink later and say "gotcha". They are legally liable to many companies. Some of the projects are already in motion, they aren't just someone's word, they are happening now in the real world. I don't know what kind of source you have that is trying to spin it to appear as if this is all smoke and mirrors, but I would suggest if they were that persuasive, you might want to find something more practical and less talking head news or activist writer. They are hard to find these days, but there still are news sources that aren't "news entertainment" talk shows or agenda based. Places that will just give you bullet points on what has happened and what has been announced, without. giving their own opinion or trying to tie in other stories to build a narrative.

It's obvious where we are at right now as a country is not healthy. We have to work together better. Half of all people on either side are not bad people. Trump has been witch hunting all the top democrats and it is awful. At the same time top democrats have been witch hunting Trump and other top GOP people. Too many are following this nonsense and cracking neighbors and family in half. We've seen violence encouraged and acted on both sides and it was disgusting from both sides. People need to start thinking for themselves again and realizing everything they accuse one side of doing, they are doing the exact same thing themselves. You have to step on the outside and look in to see how ridiculous things are and how everyone is being strung along falling for the same thing their opponents are falling for. I don't like Trump but when I step back it's easy to see you and many other people that vote the same way as me, acting exactly like the most silly farfetched Trump supporters, reaching so far and so absurdly, just to try to make things fit in a fake world where everything the other side does is wring and everything their own side does is right.

Both sides (claim to) want robust jobs and industries for Americans.

One side wants enhanced social safety nets, good public services, and non-discrimination.

The other side wants limited Federal/National government power, immigration restrictions, and for a subset, to also restrict individual rights that don’t fall within an orthodox Evangelical Christian belief system.

People exist across the entire political spectrum, but if people can’t reasonably step back and see that there is one particular part of the spectrum that is far more dangerous than the rest, than there’s nothing really else to say.

Seems like you ignored what I said to go off on an unrelated rant where you put words in my mouth. Or you don’t know what the word “placate” means. Probably the latter. 😁

Again...what does any of that have to do pooping on the idea of Apple investing $600b in the US economy and the benefits it will have on American families in the process?
It shows his constant lies and that he needs to be checked before he is believed, and so does Apple.

Apple should probably delete the pages on their website touting their environmental and social conscience. It's completely at odds with getting in to bed with an administration hell bent on destroying the environment and eliminating the rights of marginalised groups that don't fit in to the christian white supremist agenda. Hypocrisy at it's very finest.

Was creating disposable and non-upgradable products for the last two decades not enough evidence that their environmental efforts are a sham/ruse? I love Apple, but consumer electronics companies are by their very nature in the business of getting people to throw out their stuff and buy new on the regular. And let’s not even get into the damage that cloud services cause to the environment with their server farms.

What they both have in common is that they serve only the billionaires. Any claim that they want to help anyone else is a flat out lie and people who believe it are quite gullible. It will be this way until campaign finance laws are changed, and that also goes against the vested interests and will never happen.

More investment in the US = good.
Incentivizing more investment in the US through tariffs = good.
Democrats (and others) unwilling to put America's best economic (and other) interests first because they dislike President Trump = bad.

I'm ok with Tim Cook lobbying/placating President Trump.

The tariffs were always a brilliant means to an end. Those nations and companies who want the best deals in/from the United States will negotiate. The others will need to pay up and receive less favored status. I'm also ok with this. World War II is over.

To an extent, I agree with you. I do think though that as many issues I had with the Biden Administration in a number of ways, they were going after some of the large tech companies for anti-trust investigations and lawsuits, many of which then pivoted to (further) support Trump's election and then cozying up afterward.

We also wouldn't be seeing the gutting of the Federal government's various scientific and engineering research and regulatory departments and agencies if the election had gone different.

Apparently that's what the people wanted, but personally after seeing them go after greenhouse gas regulations and already starting to touch the Clean Water Act, I'm not particularly looking forward to when they work to repeal the Safe Drinking Water Act and the rest of the Clean Water Act, for example. Next year they'll probably be talking about banning chlorine from water treatment too!

The Gilded Age is BACK!

Yep. I voted against Trump all 3 times, but some of these comments are so disheartening and just downright filled with hate. I dislike the man, but not to the point where I am wiling to bite off my nose to spite my face. It's like the meme where the dude is shoving the stick in his own bike spokes as he rides. I can be against a lot of things he does and still be happy when news like this hits.

“I voted for the guy who tried to subvert our election and spread lies for years about it being rigged because he couldn’t handle losing, but can’t we all get along please! He’s doing great things commanding the economy with threats and seemingly random tariff policies!”

So then Apple pledged to invest $430 billion under Biden to placate Biden then? I mean, how does this work. Do companies only pledge hundreds of billions of dollars of investment depending on who is president? Of course not. That’s silly.

This isn't about "good things happening for the US"

It's about dictatorial control.

If Trump cared about good things for Americans, he wouldn't have shoved through a horrendous tax gift to the super wealthy while gutting endless things that benefit normal Americans.

After watching that press conference, we can now afford these new phones. Within 5 months, The Adjudicated Rapist & Convicted Felon states that our "MEDIUM" income has increased to over $1000 dollars. They have the charts, new numbers from unpublished data that will be released soon. It was all over the news!!! This is great news right MAGA?

You misread. I said I voted against Trump. I did not for him.

Seems like you ignored what I said to go off on an unrelated rant where you put words in my mouth. Or you don’t know what the word “placate” means. Probably the latter. 😁
Nope. You gotta follow the whole conversation.

"ayephoner" said "but, as others have said, it doesn't matter. this headline is to placate a toddler. they are telling him what he wants to hear and will set wheels in motion, but only enough to continue to placate him for 3 more years. the second that reasonable people are back in control of this country, this headline will be forgotten and false."

"Orange Bat" refuted that in their reply. Orange Bat was saying it wasn't simple placating, as no one was just placating Biden in the same scenario.

And then you came in to say "No. Because Biden never threatened them, so they had no need to placate him. Bothsidesism isn't an argument when both sides aren't the same."

So if you follow the whole conversation that you replied to above you can understand what I am saying. Apple wasn't just trying to placate Trump. It is way too complex for that as too many companies are involved in Apple's deal. It would be a legal nightmare if Apple was just placating Trump until his term was up, because they would have to answer to all the companies they made deals with.

The so called "unrelated" rant at the end, was actually a very direct reply specifically to your comment "Bothsidesism isn't an argument when both sides aren't the same.".

You failed to read and comprehend anything from me or others in the conversation, and then have the nerve to accuse someone else of not understanding one word..... that was very obviously well understood if you actually knew what was going on in the conversation you jumped into.

As usual Trump is taking credit for Joe Biden's accomplishments. The Chips Act gave chip companies incentives to invest in U.S. chip manufacturing. Tim Cook is not investing more at Trump's behest. It is money he was already investing under Biden.

Like I said, you are responding to points that I didn't make. All I said was that Apple didn't placate Biden, because Biden wasn't threatening them.

And, "placate" doesn't mean that the commitments aren't real. I never implied that. Again, you are either misunderstanding the word or putting words in my mouth.
