Its STILL not funny.

interesting though, since a symmetrical design, let's say, with the dial on one side and the button on the other, would have made it seamless to wear it on the right wrist..
they opted instead for an asymmetrical design, it looks uglier too..

Again you are so right. What recent designs are you talking about? iOS. Maybe not, but then there is a general homogenisation here!

Laptops, phones, desktops? Which ones? JI is so far ahead of his time that the MBP has essentially remained unchanged in 7+ years and yet others still haven't matched it.

Jesus... IOS 7 was a art theft!

Yeah they might have that option, the buttons will then be reverse with the crown on the bottom, not sure if that would cause any issues.

I can't see how it would. If this is how you wore it from the beginning, you wouldn't notice any difference.

If Jony had gone 'Full Apple' he would have put the 'digital crown' in the middle, then there would have been no difference at all for left hand use.

Dear Apple,

Please be more obnoxiously, defiantly mum about the battery life of this thing. Because it's such a great sign that the bleeding obvious first question on everyone's mind is the one question you're not touching with a 50 ft pole.

Also, please make many more (and LONGER) videos where Jony Ive tilts his head and passionately recites long lists of four syllable adjectives, obscure materials and manufacturing processes like he was a chef on some food porn network.

It's obvious the watch isn't finished, which is why they're not releasing it until 2015. So pretty sure that's why there's no mention of battery life, more detailed pricing, water resistance, connectivity options, etc. This is at least four months away from release, so plenty of time to improve/finalize the specs.

But yes, the Jony Ive things are becoming parodies of themselves. But was he in this one? Thought just his voice. But my feed was cutting in and out.

If The :apple:WATCH does not have its own GPS, it's completely useless as a sports watch.

Agreed. I'm wondering if Apple pushed this out without being able to complete it. In the original iPhone launch, Jobs actually said on stage that the next version would have 3G. Perhaps Apple couldn't cram all the necessary sensors into their first generation design, but simply wanted to get it to market. I'd be very surprised, given the device's health focus, if it didn't have GPS in its second iteration (if there is one).

I put the Apple Watch in the iPad category: a nice extension of the ecosystem but not a "need to have" if you already have an iPhone...

iPad is a must have for most by now. I use it just as much as my phone, maybe even more.

Like the design, for the first time I don't like an Apple designed UI. Need to see it in person obviously but it seemed confusing, which is so Anti-Apple.

Yeah it seemed fiddly and complex... I have a feeling I would just cut to the chase and pull out my phone for most things.

(Take text messages -- most of my text exchanges require more than an answer to a simple question, or a canned response. They're a back-and-forth that I'd end up wanting to handle with a keyboard, rather than dictating into a watch.)

Moto X destroys the Apple Watch in every way possible.
Design. Material Quality. Simplistic but in interface.
better OS, Functionality and finally Google Now completely destroys it.

I mean look at this then look at apple disgrace of a watch. its night and day.

I disagree with you completely. Yes, the Moto is a nice watch (with a battery life of 1/2-3/4 day, we'll see what Apple's is) but I prefer the design and features of Apple's watch (and I don't have an iPhone). There's pretty much no way I'm getting the Apple Watch (until at least generation 2) unless someone gives me one and I buy an iPhone (or one is given to me). Since that won't happen, I'm not getting one.

I'm not knocking the Moto at all, I'm just stating that I prefer Apple's watch.

It has no GPS, it uses the GPS in the phone. And I'd rather have more advanced health sensors in the second gen rather than GPS.

This was the killer product I was waiting for to pin fully to one ecosystem, and I think its an epic fail.

Its plain ugly. The Samsung Gear S even looks a better design.

Everything released today was overhyped and small on innovation. Phone sizes to match the rest of the market, phone design stolen from the 2012 Lumia 925 and a fat watch 18 months behind its competitors, and 30 years behind on looks.

Which other watch is so much more superior? Moto 360 was in the running till all the reviewers agree that battery life is in the sub 12 hour mark.

How many people will be injured or die from this thing?

I mean, seriously, what do you have to do to "wake" the display and get it to tell you the time? Tap on it? That's pretty dangerous if you are riding a bicycle or a motorcycle, don't you think?

Also, any bets on the readability in bright sunlight?

"Pebble killer" my tight ***. At least the Pebble has an always-on display and can be read in bright sunlight even with sunglasses.

Using a crown is a pain when you're wearing a watch: even just to change the time or date.

Not for me: especially when I'd have to carry a phone at the same time.

Interesting, I find it one of the best looking devices Apple has created. Guess we will see who is right when it goes on sale...

I don't thing either of you is right nor wrong. It's just personal taste.

It looks ok to me, but a bit bulky. I guess i will defer judgment to seeing it live in store one day. I will probably end up just waiting for the 2nd or 3rd iteration. My 1st smart phone was a 3GS after all. I can live without it.

Am I the only one severely underwhelmed by the design of the Apple Watch? It looks like a toy...

Image

"It looks like a toy" is so overused as a negative. The reason these things sell so well is because they ARE basically high-priced toys. No one really NEEDS an Apple Watch or even an ipad or iphone or super resolution camera or any other hi-priced gadget. They sell because they're fun things to have.

I think this may be the first Apple product that I was just flat out disappointed with before even checking the specs, as in I really could care less what it does.

Also, what is with announcing products so far in advance? Are they really his hard up?

I like it a lot, I probably want one, looks great from the front but a bit chubby from the side. $350 for something with a 2-3 lifespan I'm not so sure about. My parents spent £200 on a Seiko for my 21st, but it lasted over 20 years and still sort of works, it just needs a service and the seals redone.
I was completely sold after the iPhone and iPad keynotes and queued up at the Apple shop for them, I might just keep saving for a Speedmaster instead of an Apple watch.

Might change my mind once it's released though :).

So for the people saying it’s too thick - how thick is it? I have yet to see any measurements outside of the 38mm and 42mm height.

If you use a photo where there’s a same scale front and side shot, it looks like the thickness is about 10-11mm (not including the convex sensor pad which will won’t effect the thickness when you’re wearing it).

Now take a look at the thickness of a Tag Formula, or even a smaller (39-40mm) Rolex Daytona, they’re 12mm+.

I think in terms of a watch, it’s not particularly thick.

This morning, people were laughing at how thick the Android wear smartwhatches are

Apple are quoting an Ellen tweet on their website, but do they see a dig in plain sight?

Ellen..." So excited for the Apple Watch. For centuries, we’ve checked the time by looking at our phones. Having it on your wrist? Genius."
