they didn't discuss it during the keynote, but certainly they solved these issues. You simply have a preference that says whether you are a left-hand user and it orients the display correctly, allowing you to have the crown on the correct side.

it would likely just make the crown be on the bottom instead of at the top, shouldn't be a big issue. The UI should be able to flip easily

Meh... Very surprised at the blandness. It shows how hard it is to make a watch that is really appealing, in a relatively short time. Samsung got slammed; Apple should be too.

My only complaint with this great new product....

I'm left handed and I wear my watch on my right hand. Using the digital crown would require me to reach across the screen.

My friend is left handed and wears his watch on his left hand.

Not fan of a square watch...

Still UI seems better than other but once they copy the navigation system...

Still How many months before v2? for iPhone it was 6 months, I think it's worth the wait.

I was on hold with a Citizen Eco-Drive purchase until I was able to see what Apple was up to. Since I am not a fan of the look of this product, I guess I will be moving forward now with that Eco-Drive purchase.

Apple's product shows promise, but there's nothing in it that makes me want to rush out and get one on Day One.

Also, while I don't like the look of this thing, I won't go as far as to say it's "hideous." I save those melodramatics for something more deserving of the term. :)

Looks like there is nobody left at Apple to tell Jonny Ive when his ideas are just plain awful. The first reaction should have been: "WTF. Are you kidding me? Go back to the drawing board!"

Or just hire a better designer... might be easier (and cheaper).

Agree.

All this does is prevent you from taking one second to pull the iPhone out of your pocket to do almost all the advertised tasks better. It seems like a solution looking for a problem.

The only thing that is mildly interesting to me is how it tracks your physical activity--though comparing it to a personal trainer is ludicrous and over the top. Is it going to spot me at the gym now?

everyone else is making these things so there is probably a market for it

While interesting, I'm probably going to pass. Although I wouldn't rule trying it out though.

I keep remembering all the "meh" reactions when Jobs introduced the first iPhone and iPad.

Its hard to predict how this is going to work out. But some thoughts:

Starting at $349. Any bets on how much the 18 karat gold one is going to be? A thousand or more?

Thats a lot of money for a device that, ultimately, is going to be obsolete in three years. And can't be subsidized by your phone carrier. It has some neat features - but enough to persuade hundreds of millions to part with several hundred dollars?

Another problem: Its hard to wear two wristwatches. What does the guy with the $3000 Rolex or Omega - the sort of person who is the theoretical target market for this device - do here? Apple has not only to get these folks to cough up $500 or so for the Apple Watch, but also to leave their fancy other watches at home.

Does Apple need the Apple Watch to be a smash hit? No, they obviously don't. But what would Apple consider to be a success? Five million sold, ten? Anything less than that, and its going to be difficult to build the sort of App "ecosystem" to make this a real game changer.

So what are the benefits of a round design?

A square has more area than a circle with an equal diameter.

Looks very nice… indeed. Best smart watch around.

However, there's the killer.. the battery life. Don't want a watch that lasts one day.

Every other smart watch that has one day life has been panned for this very reason.

Everyone made 3D TV's. There wasn't much of a market for them. Time will tell if there is a market for smart watches.

3DTV is a dying market. Broadcasters have given up on it.

I really don't get the whining about it not being round. It makes no sense for a smartwatch to be round. It's not a regular watch with a clock face in a circle, it is a smartwatch.

Now, complaints about interface and thinness, I understand.

Hrmmmm....

Love the demo. Awesome apps and abilities. Kinda high price ($350 STARTING!). The biggest issue, though, is likely to be the battery. If it makes it longer than 12 hours on a charge, I'll be shocked. The watch seems too powerful to last for very long under actual use.

Ummmmmm.....

Ummmmmm..... It's a bit..... Chunky.....
Also, they've thrown everything into the software; There's plenty of good things here, but i think they needed someone to remind them to keep it simple (I think this where Steve would have come in) ... I mean why on earth would you need to look at your photos on a WATCH! And, to make it even more ridiculous; a watch where you NEED an iPhone for it to work!?? Like someone else has said before me, it's a fair enough smart watch, but it's not really a classic apple product; it needed to be far more focused.
