Once people wipe the jizz from their zipper and step back and look at the moto 360 they will see it for the piece of crap it is. The one upside is it will ultimately kill the demand for round watches.

Honest question, have you used one? Held one?

I've only handled one and it is pretty nice. Didn't get to use it, but it's nice.
I would never buy one, or the Apple watch, I'll stick to my automatics.

If the display was circular instead of square people would be drooling all over this. I wasn't crazy about it at first but then I went to Apple's website and looked at all the photos of it and it's definitely growing on me. It blows me away that they have so many different styles/bands for a version one product. I certainly wasn't expecting that out of the gate.

I actually agree. I liked it, but was hoping for a circular design. But never expected a company like apple to splurge in SKUs like this. Not sure I see millions if combinations like Jony, but a nice range of custom looks.

If the bands fit my wrist, I am getting one!

Apple has $160 billion in cash...

and this kickstarter with $400k developed this....

https://d2pq0u4uni88oo.cloudfront.net/projects/974084/video-403126-h264_high.mp4

and today we were presented with the Apple Watch which looks like everything else out there.

Sad day.

R.I.P Steve...we miss you.

Lol if you serious comparing the functionality of the two. The momentum is not even a watch, it is a wrist brand.

----------

I think this may be the first Apple product that I was just flat out disappointed with before even checking the specs, as in I really could care less what it does.

Also, what is with announcing products so far in advance? Are they really his hard up?

No but much like the original iPhone (which was announced 6 months before it came out), various legal filings would have exposed the device. They prefe to do it on their own terms

Rumors were apple was setting expectations low as they wanted three to four days battery life and are only seeing two. Funny that is four to five times more than the moto 360 gets.

Two days for the Apple Watch? Seems like one day maximum at the moment unless Apple can improve battery life before release.

1 day battery life for any watch isn't anything to be proud about - that goes for any manufacturer.

Not very practical - especially if you travel - you can't even go away for a weekend without forgetting your watch's power cable.

but like i said. my prediction came true. whatever apple released would be adored by fans and media alike and be hailed revolutionary. While the competition completely outclasses it.

By the way, samsung gear 1, 2, and S is straight garbage.
That goes with the LG G and now add Apple Watch to the list.

Who would have thought motorola would rise to claim design, technological innovation and user ability supremacy with Moto X, G & 360.

Hard to take anyone seriously who makes such claims about the 360. The 360 is a woefully underpowered smart phone with a whack-arsed display which is a massive handicap. I know some people jus because the face is round but the actual display is not round and is a usability disaster.

I think the 360 is by far the worst smartwatch released to date, running an antiquated hardware and a ridiculous screen. People got tricked into seeing sort of a round face and then let common sense out the window.

There is literally no aspect where the 360 excels over its android brethren let alone the apple watch

----------

I gather that is more to do with having a small bezel than the shape.

You gather what? That the 360 display is not actually round because it has no bezel? Even with a larger bezel it still would not be round and you would still see pixelation all around the edge of the device.

If apple or samsung released the 360 they would be getting crushed. However everyone thinks Motorola rides the short bus and is praised for making a craptastic watch.

----------

then forget it. I hope you are wrong. Don't expect huge depths but something like 50m resistant is a must. People surf, swim, etc and a waterproof watch is a must.

My understanding is it is waterproof to 20 meters

Been thinking about this overnight. I am an Apple Fanboy. Switching to Macs in business totally saved my arse a few years ago and I love them for it.............but........

This Watch is supposed to be good for tracking health and fitness, but for most of the functionality you need an iPhone in your pocket. I am no fitness junkie but do something nearly every day, and the odd sprint triathlons etc. If I look at my exercise stuff this thing is useless?

Gym - you may wanna track your weights and reps but you would never wear a watch when doing weights. So no good there.

Running - it's great to track pace, distance and times of course. I use a Garmin watch with GPS for that (bulky and software sucks a bit), but to use the Watch I would need to also carry an iPhone which is the last thing you want running! So no good there.

Cycling - now here I use the iPhone in a holder. It's perfect as gives me maps, music, and all my timings in a big clear screen. The Watch would add nothing and I still need the iPhone there. In fact taking my hands off the bars to view a tiny screen is not ideal. Useless really.

Swimming - useless basically. (However my garmin works there when needed).

Ski Touring - might be nice to see stats as you ascend the mountain, but this thing is not going over gloves, or clipping on, and doesn't sound outside robust and waterproof enough.

Paragliding - I would like some stats there maybe, but a wrist device is also crap 'cos I need to control the wing with both hands in the air. So no good.

I also do motorbike touring (iPhone mount), wakeboarding (no use there unless 100% waterproof with HD camera), and snowboarding (no use under those conditions).

So frankly.........it's just totally useless for any serious sports or fitness tracking??? Or am I missing something. Yeh I guess it works if you like walking and wanna track your steps!! Might be vaguely OK for hiking.

The device you WANT is one that tracks your calorie intake AND calorie usage, so when losing weight you can see "300 calories left to consume today" or "400 calories over for today" - but I am aware that is technically impossible at the moment.

I wanna love this new gadget but for health & fitness Apps it is just a gimmick. As much use as a chocolate radiator.

Errr, hello, have you not seen the Moto 360, the LG or the curved Samsung. In what possible way does this look like the best wearable on the market??? (and the most expensive to boot!)

The moto sucks by any possible metric, including its phony round display. The curved Samsung is concerning because a wrapped display is not ideal for quick glance information.

Finally all three of them are totally dependent on software revolution and evolution from google. This can be a huge issue. Especially in a burgeoning market with companies want to expirment.

Apple's offering looks as good as sny of those and their ability to create a huge number of unique combinations is something all the android watch makers trail by a huge margin.

I was wrong...

... since it turned out to be much more than a redesigned iPod worn on your wrist.

What I like:
  • UI is awesome. Rather than a stripped down iOS version, they created a new thing, with lots of color and animations.
  • Functionality (lots of things, apps)
  • Customization (both physical and on UI)
  • Stand alone features for sports, such as music playing via Bluetooth
  • Internal storage
  • Apple Pay

What I don't like:
  • Size overall (too bulky, and huge screen looks odd on the wrist, just like the rest of smart watches already around)
  • The sport version (the one I'd buy) still looks more like a regular watch than a fitness band. It would have been great if Apple would have come with a much simple interface and smaller form factor for this model.

I don't see the need to buy one (specially if I'm finally upgrading to an iPhone 6 Plus, 64Gb, off contract, in euros *gulps*).
It's just another nice gadget, but not revolutionary IMO.

PS: Tim was notoriously happy after revealing the Apple Watch. I can tell this was HIS product... thus, the different naming: "Apple" :apple: (Pay, Watch) instead of Steve's "i" (Pod, Mac, Pad, Phone). They even used a different font type for the branding.

I doubt that dictating text messages will work very well. There'll be a lot of I said 'Jesus' not 'cheese.' So in the end it will be too frustrating and nobody will use it. That's unless they improve Siri to be at the Google Voice standard at least.

So does anyone else find the ui on the watch horrible ? It looks horrible with the deep backs and then popping over saturated colors. And then the way you have zoom in an out and around to try and find an app makes me think it will be a disaster trying to find an app or a picture etc.

Not to mention the design code doesn't fit into what they are doing with iOS 8 and the flat deign. Just doesn't make sense. In fact what google have done with there consistent flat design makes android wear more appealing to me.

If you're going to talk about build quality, you best take another look at the LG! ... which by the way takes normal 22mm straps, is cheaper and looks a dam site more elegant than this brick on a wrist (before we even start talking about the Moto 360!) I'm sorry, but even die hard Apple fans can't defend this monstrosity (which without the Apple logo, would be burnt at the stake by the media!)

The moto 360 is absolutely crao. It uses old hardware and it's round scree is not close to being round.

----------

having an apple watch isn't a status symbol. try AP, hublot, patek, rolex. apple watch is a toy and so is any smartwatch.

Yet in 2015, apple could like have more watch revenue and profits than any of those companies.

----------

I actually thought they would keep the 4 inches version around. WTF is wrong with Apple? First nobody wants a bigger phone and now they don't even give us the option to have a small one? That's the biggest surprise for me, no 3.5 or 4 inches iPhone 6. Amazing.

Actually two 4" devices remain available in their product line

----------

Switzerland went to bed with a big grin

Why? Because apple will likely generate more revenue and profits in 2015 selling watches that any Swiss watch maker?

----------

Abysmal? compared to a product that is coming out in 6 minimum?

You do know that the moto 360 comes with real leather and is full steel meaning there is no rubber. While the apple watch rubber sports version will cost you 499 and the leather version will cost you starting atleast 599.

lol the only material quality here is apple watch. a rubber watch for 499.

please stop.

At least the apple watch has a real display and is powered by 2014/2015 technology. The moto 360 has a horribly dysfunctional display using technology from 2010. At half the price of the most inexpensive apple watch, the moto 360 is way overpriced.

----------

Lose support?

1. It runs on android wear which gets monthly feature updates.
2. This is motorola not samsung.

The two weakest links for the 360 are it's very outdated core hardware and it's jacked up screen. Neither can be fixed by software updates.

Nothing more than a pack of gimmicks all together. I remember Apple when they only released something to be a game changer, not to please shareholders pressuring Apple to create new products. Sad.

It needs to be standalone to be a mass success.

Carrying the iPhone with you at the same time to act as the Watch's server sounds wrong to me.

Where is the market for this certainly not the middle age and kids that made the iPad such a success.

Time will tell.

Why would it be so odd to carry your phone around at the same time? When do you not want your phone nearby?

Watches are uncomfortable things to wear, all of them. When I used to wear a watch, many years ago, the first thing I did when I got home was to take it off my wrist. This big thing is heavier and sweatier than a regular watch.

Product design

What different no existant category is the Watch?

No, the original post was that each product catagory Apple chose to make, the initial reviewer response was that it would fail - iPod, iPhone, IPad. But they all went on to sell millions.
Someone else chipped in that the MacCube was not a success. And my point is that the Cube was not a new catagory of product it was a variation on the PC.

If they had said, Digital camera or sound box they may have had a point - but these were only ever peripheral devices,

The point is that the smartphone gives you the time and therefore the watch - which only gives youh the time was abandoned by many as unnecessary ( me included) going back to carrying 2 devices is going to be a harder exercise to get people to do than had rhe use of a watch not gone out of fashion over the last 10 years

I have a question...

Someone at Apple passingly mentioned that the :apple:Watch has NFC capability and can use the new payments thing... How does this work when it doesnt incorporate TouchID?

People hating on it not being standalone: having a pocket server is a bit nerdy, but it is also the tech dream. It makes so much sense.

Screen size

When I look at a watch it is to see the position of the hands relative to 12 o'clock.

When i look at my iPhone messages that appear on the lock screen I can hardly read them. Now consider a 42mm screen - i have no chance of reading it withou glasses.

So this device needs to talk to me.

Its not for me I'm afraid Apple. I have literally 0 use for such a device. I would have much preferred an iPod Classic refresh.
