Apple Announces 'AppleCare One' Subscription Plan for Multiple Devices

I re-upped my Apple Care for my Mac Book Air for $75 a year.. 2 days later, spilled coffee (with cream and sugar) on it. So you never know.

So you paid a couple hundred initially. Re-up for 75 a year. And it costs you like 200-300 deductible to fix a laptop you can buy new for 699. Sounds cool.

Remember, the price is setup for Apple to make money in the long run.

I haven’t been to the Genius Bar in over decade.

I also haven’t had accidental damage in over decade, and the 1 time it did happen was because the strap on the Incase bag I had at the time failed. I haven’t made that same mistake twice.

I could see this being useful for some folks like some of my relatives who crack their new iPhone screens within 10 minutes of opening the box.

For me, I’d be better off put $20 into another savings account.

Yeah. I pay Best Buy 179 or so. Unlimited devices for apple care. Plus anything else you buy there. Plus some discounts here and there. This isn’t anything new but Apple is being stingy. 3 devices.

Thing is after year two I cancel these plans quickly even off Best Buy that you can continue after year two. The devices at that time have depreciated. Depends on what I’m covering really. Have to keep in mind deductibles on Mac’s to repair.

iPhones are easiest for me to need. Then a laptop. iPad? Screw those. Won’t buy anymore of those. Do have a Vision Pro which could make me curious when it expires in another year. Or just keep coverage on it individually as that device isn’t Best Buy related.

Would be nice if the list of eligible devices was all the devices associated with my Apple Family rather than just mine.
I’m really looking forward to a Family Plan for AC1—it seems like a no‑brainer given how successful the product seems to be. Right now, whenever a family member makes a purchase, it’s charged to my payment method as the primary user. It would be much more convenient if Apple offered a single Family Plan (for example, $39.99/month) that lets the primary user manage and pay for all family devices at once.

At $39.99 (or less!), this would replace my current setup of paying $10/month for each of our three iPhones. In reality, our family has five members, each with at least an iPhone and either a MacBook or iPad (mostly both), plus AirPods. A Family Plan would simplify billing, protect everyone’s devices, and avoid surprise charges—especially when kids are away at school.

In 21 years of Apple device and Mac ownership I’ve never once paid for AC. For the confused, not boasting just stating a fact.
From my 30+ years of using Apple devices, I can say this: “Peace of Mind” isn’t just a marketing term—it really means something.

“Life queues. Death cuts.”
(That’s a popular witty saying in Korea.)

We never know what’s coming next, so it’s up to each person to decide. If used wisely, AppleCare can be a smart choice.

I had not as well, until I finally dropped my first phone last year (caseless). My punishment was to get Apple Care for a year to teach myself a lesson.

Well... never bought AC+ as well in 25 years. I didn't have any incident with my all my Macs where I definitely would need the paid AC(+). All the PowerPC generation Mac's I own never had any issues. I did use the standard 90 days AC a few times, though. For my MacPro 2008, it had a failing keyboard thanks to careless transport by TNT Couriers (worst carrier ever - they damaged all my packages). And my MacBook Pro 2011, it had a failing touch pad - the click area slowly shrunk to nothing in just one month.

Throughout the years I had couple of mobile devices like an iPod Touch, several iPad's. None of them had AC(+). Our first iPad was 2nd hand iPad Air, came without AC - used the battery replacement program when the battery completely failed. At the AppleStore 10 minutes and 99 euros later I got a full replacement.

Last year the iPad (7th gen, bought new in 2019) of my oldest kid broke the lightning port socket. She's a typical iPad power user (high school & leisure) and often has the USB charger plugged in while doing her homework. If I had bought AC+ then it would have already been expired. A repair center in the next town could fix it for the same price as AC+ would have been (purchase AC+ plus the repair fee). Repair was done within a week. If I brought it to the certified Apple reseller here in town it would have taken two weeks for 250-350 euros. At the Apple Store it would have been replaced on the spot for +350 euros. Basically saying: buy a new iPad, please! Sure... not today.

And iPhones? So far me and family have managed to squeeze a lot of years out of them without AC(+). Except on one holiday abroad. While I was very careful keeping the phone away from water, in a stupid moment I jumped into the pool while having my iPhone SE 16GB still in my short's pocket. Stupid mistake! Here AC might have saved me some money. Unfortunately the nearest official Apple Store was hundreds of miles away and still weeks before we would fly home again. So I ended up getting a newer SE with 128GB some days later - 16GB turned out to be too small anyway. Used the new SE for almost 6 years, also without AC+. Also used the battery replacement program due to the iOS battery drain issue.

But AppleCare One?... 19,99 each month? That's $239 per year, or $959 per 4 years. For three Apple devices? I'm sorry, considering the monthly fee all repairs should not have an additional fee at all. I can understand the handling fee in case of theft/loss, but not for repairs.
Maybe Apple can come up with an more appealing package deal that includes larger iCloud storage for example. A family package: way more devices and more iCloud Storage at a lower rate than this.

I might consider a deal like that. Just three devices in the standard plan really doesn't fit our household - adding the most import ones, the monthly payment is just way too much.

Finally something good ! Do we have family option?
No family option yet. I suspect that could come in the future.

I’m sure Apple is trying to figure out how to implement this though. Would it be up to five family members with three devices each? That would be a pretty expensive plan.

Maybe three family members with two devices each. That could make the price not so scary.

I’m waiting for a family plan to add my kids iPads and my daughter’s iPhone.

I've just checked the math on my refund more carefully. It looks like the partial months on the iPad and Apple Watch were bundled in with the refund for the remaining part of the two year term on my iPhone. (I got a refund of $156, but the math says the iPhone-only part of the refund was about $146). I'm good!
I wanted to post to say my math (and this post) was wrong. The partial months for the month-to-month AppleCare+ are being refunded separately.

Just about 20 minutes ago I got an email from Apple saying I was getting a refund of $4.35 (of $4.99 / month) for the canceled AppleCare+ on my Apple Watch.

I assume a similar refund will be issued soon for the month-to-month coverage on my iPad Pro.

I currently don’t pay for AppleCare either, and rely solely on paying out of pocket for any repairs that may crop up along the way. So far, any issues I have had with my Apple devices either happened within the 1-year period (like my Apple Watch’s paint chipping issue) or after the warranty period (my iPhone’s battery health steadfastly not falling below 81%).

I always thought AppleCare+ was more of a USA centric thing. No expert here, doesn't Europe have more of a generous warranty for tech over the pond? Not sure about Ireland either. If my place of country had 3 years of warranty and a more generous return policy I'd probably be less inclined for AC+.

Here - AppleCare+ has given me an experience that ensures I will get it when given the opportunity.

My wife's then almost 3 year old MBP had a battery failure (got a warning in the OS and it refused to charge) - about a month till the AppleCare+ expired. Got a new battery and keyboard for free in a day. I've had at least 2 iPhones replaced, no questions asked, both in less than 5 minutes of walking into the store - my wife has had at least one (according to my failing memory). I love how Apple treats us AC+ users - device not working right? Replace, and on your way you go because the last thing I want to do is be without my <device> and standing waiting for my device.

Wish they had a family plan - as my wife and I now both have 2 $20/mo subs - but with this AppleCare One thing, I did the math, we're saving $16/mo doing this (together).

Apple today announced AppleCare One, a new subscription plan for customers to cover multiple devices with a single plan.

Apple-AppleCare-One-hero.jpg

AppleCare One starts at $19.99 per month for up to three products, with the ability to add more for $5.99 per month for each additional device. The plan incudes all of the benefits that come with AppleCare+, such as unlimited repairs for accidents, priority support, battery coverage, and more.

Subscribers can freely move their devices in and out of the plan at any time. AppleCare One also enables users to add products they already own that are up to four years old, providing they are in good condition, extending beyond the current 60-day window to purchase AppleCare+. When a customer trades in a covered product with Apple, it is automatically removed from their AppleCare One plan and replaced with the new device.

AppleCare One also expands theft and loss protection to the iPad and Apple Watch. Previously, it was only available for the iPhone.

AppleCare One's pricing is the same regardless of the products that are covered. Apple says that a customer who enrolls their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch could save up to $11 per month versus enrolling in separate AppleCare+ plans for each device.

Customers in the United States can sign up for AppleCare One starting tomorrow on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or by visiting an Apple Store.

Will Apple continue to focus on innovation in the supply chain and the monthly payment/subscription model, or can this trillion-dollar company make something new for the first time in 20 years? We need new and exciting products, but the bookkeeping mentality has make innovating products, in any way other than incrementally, a distant memory. We need game-changing tech. Cook hasn't got it in him. If he could just put his ego aside and free up some cash to make something interesting and worthwhile, we might love Apple again. Hard to do when milking us makes everybody rich....

How did you do it? My Apple display doesn’t show up in Apple support app. Do you add it from your Mac?
I added it from my mac while connected to the display... Don't know if the last part was necessary, but I'm guessing that the adding it from my mac was necessary...

This is an instant buy. I have an iPad Pro that's $7.50/mo, MacBook Pro that's $12.50/mo, and Pro display XDR that's $15/mo, in addition to my iPhone 16 Pro Max. It'll save me a ton of money over paying for things separately -- plus, I get theft and loss coverage.

The iPhone is on the Upgrade Program -- anyone know if I can migrate the IUP AC+ to ACOne? or, is that just wishful thinking?

This would be a no brainer (for me) if I don't lose the value of the Apple Care+ I've already spent for products - some which expire in 2027... Does anyone know how that works? Or will I just wind up waiting until the timing is better?

This is kind of a no brainer for Apple - smoother revenue streams with less expensive (even to them via volume) 1st party insurance.

When you sign up for AppleCare One, you will get a pro-rated refund for the unused portion of the cancelled AppleCare+. This may be in the form of an Apple gift card, not a refund to a credit card.

Is this also the case for monthly plans? I have 2 of my 3 devices on my AC1 plan that had monthly plans. I signed up yesterday for AC1, received the emails that my previous plans were cancelled, but have not received the refund emails yet.

My Apple display only appeared as eligible device in the Settings app on the Mac that’s connected to it. When I check on any other device, the display doesn’t show up in the list.
