What kind of a foolish complaint is that? They wait until is shows up in Best Buy and Walmart. What do you expect- Steve Jobs to hand deliver one to your door because you're too lazy to order on line?

lol. I was thinking the same thing.

And I really don't understand the knock that the iPad is "just a big iPod Touch"... Last time I checked the iPod Touch is pretty frickin' cool, so a "bigger" version sounds good to me.

That's like saying a pool is just a "big bathtub".

I will buy one for novelty purposes for the wife, but I imagine this will sit and gather dust like her IPod touch. Got her the 27inch i7 too, but she still prefers her Asus netbook. Hard to argue with that. Easy, simple, light and long battery. Oh well, just more toys. I am still in the "need a new MBP" camp. The current one is over a year old. I will swing by the Apple stores here (three stores within 15 minutes drive) just to see the lines.

based on your proximity to three apple stores and propensity to throw money away i'm guessing you're in orange county.

Anyone else find it odd that the iBooks isn't preinstalled given its one of the major features Jobs showed off at the intro? Maybe that was the alleged production hold up and finally Apple had to just delete it from the pre-installed app list to get the iPad ramp up going.

Not really. Not everyone will want the iBookstore app. It should be an optional download that you can opt in for.

That's not the reason. Lots of people don't want Apple's standard apps and they can't be removed.

Apple is doing this so they can update it frequently without requiring an OS update.

the question for me is do i gamble on apple's past history of shipping products out a tad early do i pre-order. i have a 3 weeks of airplanes, trains and boats and not a single return to my home base. it would have been perfect instead of lugging a small library with me.

Are you a developer? If you are, and you've downloaded the latest SDK, you'd see the new methods that are included for the iPad.

If not, just wait and see.

so basically, you're telling me you can't back up your original claims and counter with an intellectual debate; therefore, you try and act sly and tell me to "just wait and see".

you lost whatever credible stance you may have had now.

I clicked the “Notify Me” on Apple’s website and gave them my email address weeks ago. On that page it says, “Stay up to date on iPad. Get the latest news about iPad delivered to your inbox.”
I received no email regarding this announcement. Did anyone else?

Yes, they could be done on the iPod Touch.

Granted, it would be a waste of time and extremely inefficient, but there's no inherent reason why they wouldn't work.

Well practically any app in the world could be made for the iPod Touch in a manner that would be a waste of time and extremely inefficient. That's the whole point of the iPad: it makes a whole new class of apps possible in a practical sense on a semi-portable multitouch device.

Example of an arrogant & unnecessary post.

That description covers about 98% of the posts from the veteran Apple bashers here.

I wonder what psychology makes them spend so much energy on something they hate.

You can understand people wanting to talk about a product they like and sharing it with others. But what mental illness makes someone spend so much energy whining about something they'll never buy and have absolutely no interest in?

Great. Nice toy. MacBook Pro please

I resisted buying a new MacBook Pro when my MacBook monitor died back in December (using an external monitor instead) because they might have released a new i5 based model in January. This, clearly, never happened.

I then thought, might as well wait until this big event press announcement as surely they will announce it then. This also never happened.

I then thought, surely they will release the new MacBook Pro in February... it has been 8 months since the last update and the Core2Duo is getting long in the tooth. As we all know... nada.

Now it is March. I'm thinking, even though the iPad doesn't overlap the user demographic of the MacBook Pro (well, the power user demographic anyway... not sure about the rich, hipster kid demographic) I fear they won't want to drain pocket books by releasing a competing big ticket item so this month will be a wash.

After that I will have waited a quarter year, working every day at my desk bound laptop located 3 feet above the cat box. In my heart I fear that the moment I do buy a new laptop will be the moment they release the new MacBook Pro yet if I continue to wait I fear a June release.

Ugh.

Assuming he is a developer, he is legally bound to not speak about it. I am also a developer and can back up his statements (which I'm sure will not appease you).

Or, he signed a NDA and can't be specific.

Nope, I just can't be bothered with someone with that attitude. I've seen the new SDK and played with it, and I can't wait to see the apps that will come out from this new version. People will see for themselves soon enough. I'm tired of the bashing.

Man I'm glad I was wrong about no pre-sale!!.

So technically Apple IS offering it in March. Just won't be delivered until April 3rd. Which is odd. Maybe the pre-sales get delivered on Friday instead of Saturday.

On these pre-sale stuff doesn't Apple usually ship it via FedEx from China ?

1. Some people have no imagination.
2.They have to actually see the results before it dawns on them what is going on.
3.Same thing happened when the iPod was introduced in 2001. People slammed it. Then it came out, people started using in, and THEN they got it.

1. yep, i can thing of a few people...starting with S.Jobs and J.Ives for having NO imagination whatsoever with the creation of the iPad. so don't just rag on me, be sure to rag on them as well....because i bet anything that before the iPad was announced, you looked at online images of what the iPad COULD HAVE BEEN and you were pumped up for that. however, you gotta fault the Apple company for having NO imagination at all with what they came up with.

2. i don't need to see anything about the iPad. it's a ipod touch....i already know, via imagination, what at ~10" screen will provide. pretty much the SAME experience, only a few more things like iWorks.....wow.

3. so are you the type of person that doesn't challenge concept/design/theory and blindingly accepts whatever Apple produces is going to strike gold? sounds like it. the ipod was a new concept straying away from the old mp3's/walkmans. the iphone was a new concept straying away from button phones. the ipad is well....just an ipod touch. there really wasn't much more developed on it.

So what is your creative idea for an Apple tablet?

Not really. Not everyone will want the iBookstore app. It should be an optional download that you can opt in for.

maybe Apple should apply that same philosopy to some of their other apps that take up space on my iphone.....stocks, contacts, youtube, notes, etc..... don't 1/2 ass it with just iBooks, go all out.

Ugh! England should get them at the same time as the United States. I mean, we're England? If it wasn't for us......................... ;-)!

Good we've got a date though! Now I know how long I have to save!

Exciting :)

Personally I'm glad. It was going to be tough watching everyone buy their wifi only iPad's while I wait for the 3G one - but now I'll get mine at the same time as everyone else :)

If I was an iPhone developer I would be extremely hesitant about porting any of my applications to iPad. The market is going to be tiny (a fraction of the size of iPhone) and without significant hardware improvements to the device it will remain that way indefinitely.

We'll see.

Looks like Apple couldn't hit the date they wanted aka 2 months would've ended up being in March sometime, not April. I guess it all boiled down to FCC approval fail.

so, if someone makes a comment that is opposite (negative) of your stance, they are bashing? but if someone takes a similar stance (positive) approach in which you hold the same stance, they are your super-duper apple buddy?
