Adobe releases updated Photoshop for Android

That's a feature, not a bug.

It's a bug if you try to use the web.

This is going to get uglier:

Adobe Systems released a new version of its Photoshop.com Mobile application for Android phones on Thursday night, an upgrade that came with an apparent attempt to tweak Apple's nose.
...
"Unlike iPhone, the Android platform allows us to make the Photoshop.com editor broadly available to developers so they can provide it within any application they are working on....," Doug Mack, general manager of Adobe's Digital Imaging and Rich Media Solutions group, said in a statement.

'Vignette blur' is of the new editing features available in the version 1.1 of Adobe's Photoshop.com Mobile for Android.

I would assume these are the Apple built-in apps, but it will be interesting to see what what iPad-specific apps can do. I wonder if it's anything beyond a size upgrade. Given the new features in xcode, and the encouragement to make UI changes for iPad, I'll bet these apps will be fun to play with.

I wonder what the 12 apps are. Depending on which ones you include there are more/less than 12 by my counting:

1. Safari
2. Mail
3. Photos
4. Video
5. YouTube
6. iPod
7. iBooks
8. Maps
9. Notes
10. Calendar
11. Contacts
12. iTunes
13. App Store
14. Pages
15. Keynote
16. Numbers

Hi,

I'm looking forward to reading the reviews on the iPad. I'll be getting iPad 2G next summer.

I agree with everything you wrote except this. I guess it's a matter of perception. I love the iPad and will be buying several, but I don't see that it's horribly incorrect to say that it's a big iPod Touch. It's larger, faster, and has 3G optional, but, to be honest, most of what you can do on the iPad can be done on an iPod Touch - just not as quickly or easily. So there's no need to be defensive. When someone says it's just a big iPod Touch, I respond "that's not too far off the mark. It's bigger and faster which means that it's even more suitable for some tasks". There's no advantage in denying its heritage.

You make a fair point that this is the heritage of the iPad, and I do acknowledge there are many similarities. My point is that this is the line used by people who have not held an iPad. Those who have, and much more importantly those who are now programming for the device, see that it's much more than a big iPod touch. There are new programming standards for the iPad, features that just wouldn't work for the iPod touch but fit naturally for a device like this. Multitouch is being used more fully on the iPad with new gestures that just don't make sense on the iPod touch.

I think we'll look back and think that the iPod touch was an early version of the iPad, not the other way around. I think we're going to be shocked at some of the cool software being developed for this thing.

please enlighten us. how is this not an iPod Touch aside from the larger screen. please.....do share.....please...

I just did while you were writing your snide remark.

Give Square-Enix the time to prepare Final Fantasy 7... since with the bigger screen they can put all the buttons on the screen ;)

the iWork suite is not bundled, it's $10/app. iBooks is a free download as well. That leaves an even dozen on your list.

1. what are these new programming standards you speak of? what are you talking about??

3. you're just being speculative about people being shocked. anyone could say that you're gonna be shocked about a product's FUTURE....but right now, in the moment.....is anyone shocked about what the ipad can do? NO. people who say the ipad will do great things in the FUTURE are just trying to convince themselves that the ipad isn't a joke so when they do buy the ipad they don't have buyers remorse.

The iPad had such potential :( I’m hoping Apple can somehow survive those 3 days of delay ;) I’ve never known a technology product to be that late.

Yes. Many people. They tend to fall into one of two groups.

1. People who have actually used it, or

2. People who aren’t hung up on bullet points and tech details—things that 95% of the world don’t care about (they care about the experience and usefulness)

But tech forums like this are frequented by a tiny niche of the population, and very few of us fall into either of those groups.

I’m old enough to remember people putting down graphical interfaces in general, and clinging to their keyboards. It’s like deja vu :) The little iPod/iPhone has now generated something “bigger” and not just in inches!

There ya go. The iWork apps aren't included and iBooks doesn't come installed.

.

Have you even seen the version of the iWorks apps on the iPad or even just the new Calendar app? Do you really think these things would be possible on an iPod Touch?

It baffles me how people have such a hard time seeing how much better of an app experience is possible on the iPad.

Are you a developer? If you are, and you've downloaded the latest SDK, you'd see the new methods that are included for the iPad.

If not, just wait and see.

what about the people that don't have apple stores? And don't want to order online what gives

What kind of a foolish complaint is that? They wait until is shows up in Best Buy and Walmart. What do you expect- Steve Jobs to hand deliver one to your door because you're too lazy to order on line?

Some people have no imagination. They have to actually see the results before it dawns on them what is going on. Same thing happened when the iPod was introduced in 2001. People slammed it. Then it came out, people started using in, and THEN they got it.

Yes, they could be done on the iPod Touch.

Granted, it would be a waste of time and extremely inefficient, but there's no inherent reason why they wouldn't work.

The new APIs that are in the iPad development kit will almost certainly apply to other iPhone OS devices when the latest OS version is released.

The point you are missing is that if it's "only" a big iPod Touch, it's still really good, and what a lot of people might want. The potential then may take it far beyond that.

example of a very open minded and cultivated american..
no wonder you are going to throw ur money away on a useless ipad because mr jobs tells u to do so..

Example of an arrogant & unnecessary post.

Sorry to break it to you Jacques, but just b/c you have no desire for an iPad does not make those that do gullible simps. And, if you haven't been reading the post, seems that lots of non-Americans are eager for the iPad too. I suppose in your tiny world those people are traitorous American wannabees.
