Happy to see Canada make the list of countries receiving both models in late April. Nice end of the school year gift for myself, I wonder if I convince some family members (mom, sisters) to buy this for me? :D

"Pad's revolutionary Multi-Touch™ interface makes surfing the web an entirely new experience, dramatically more interactive and intimate than on a computer."

Interesting that they've dropped the notion that the iPad is the "best" way to surf the web....

The last time I checked its still is claiming to be 'The best way to experience the web, email and photos.' :D

Not really. Not everyone will want the iBookstore app. It should be an optional download that you can opt in for.

I would think it would be more to do with "not every country will have iBookstore available", at least at first.

For example, Canada will get the iPad in late April, according to the article, but the Canadian iBookstore might not be open until "later in the year". So it is likely that Canadian iPads won't have the iBooks app installed, and it won't be available to download from the Canadian app store, until the bookstore launches.

If I was an iPhone developer I would be extremely hesitant about porting any of my applications to iPad. The market is going to be tiny (a fraction of the size of iPhone) and without significant hardware improvements to the device it will remain that way indefinitely.

I wouldn't bet on it

lol. I was thinking the same thing.

And I really don't understand the knock that the iPad is "just a big iPod Touch"... Last time I checked the iPod Touch is pretty frickin' cool, so a "bigger" version sounds good to me.

That's like saying a pool is just a "big bathtub".

Couldn't have put it better myself. Well done.

Exactly, right there on the main iPad page. Doesn't look to me like they have backed down one bit. It will be interesting to see how many get returned based on this claim; the average user (not us geeks) is not going to be interested in excuses.

so, if someone makes a comment that is opposite (negative) of your stance, they are bashing? but if someone takes a similar stance (positive) approach in which you hold the same stance, they are your super-duper apple buddy?

Has to do with attitude. I also can't be bothered with Apple fans who post senseless things.

Due to heavy workload I have bookmarked this URL in iCal for March 5, 2011.

Will reply then.

Why?

I ported one of my apps including using new iPad specific features in about 4 h. The core frameworks are identical, the only time consuming part was changing the UI and adding in conditional compilation code. Now I have an App that compiles selective for iPad or iPhone depending on the target. Again all of which is easy to do

So it compiles differently and creates 2 separate apps then? I think most people would expect a single version of the app that self configures itself at run time, so that they could have a single app on multiple devices.

I don't think of it as a giant iPod Touch. More a giant iPhone, with no phone, no compass and no camera, but with the added bonus of an XGA screen resolution of 1024x768, just like cutting edge technology in 1990.

Developers have the option to do what you describe.

I don't know what this particular person did.

This is a very very shortsighted way of looking at it. Devs that will get their iPad app out first will be making the big bucks. While the market intially is a fraction of that of the iPhone, iPad apps won't be 150,000. So you get maximum exposure.

Apple, do they still make computers?
What exactly do you think the iPad is ?

iPod Touch with a bigger screen, faster processor and iWork along with a pretty reasonable price tag, and accessories made by Apple themselves

Well, it cannot play flash as my computer can. It cannot install any program I want from any source I want like my computer. It doesn't have any visible folder and file structure like my computer. Then I guess it is just a big ipod touch.

The iPod touch is a computer, too.
Flash-playback and the possibility to install 'any programs you want from any source' as well as a visible folder and file structure are not a requirement for something to be called a computer.

to the dust bin with ya

I wish they made announcement for MBP instead.... wtf they were thinking??

Busy day adding to my iggy list...

I think they were thinking that announcing a sales date for their hot new product would generate buzz.

Maybe start a new thread or post to one of the dozens about "new" MBP's instead of polluting this thread with off topic crap.

Have you even seen the version of the iWorks apps on the iPad or even just the new Calendar app? Do you really think these things would be possible on an iPod Touch?

It baffles me how people have such a hard time seeing how much better of an app experience is possible on the iPad.

FINAL FANTASY 7 ON THE IPAD :D :D :D :D

what about the people that don't have apple stores? And don't want to order online what gives

I guess this is where you stay... in the stone ages he he. Everything is linked in nowadays. You want install disks go get a computer! If you don't have an apple store account by now your really in the stone age bud! There's also those crank phones on green acres he he...

i agree. my desktop calculator is a computer also. so is my vacuum cleaner and my electric toothbrush.
