I have about $100 I can afford to spend this xmas on about 10 people and myself. Any good $10 gift ideas?

I gave these out two years ago, they were a real hit:

Discounts

It appears that not all European Apple Store's get the discount. Spain and Portugal are missing the 'Happy Friday' banner on their Store websites.

Typical.

Loma Linda University in CA sells the current Macbook Pro (13'') for $999 on a regular basis... great deals on apple products! esp previous models after a new update comes out. My friend got the white macbook during the ipod deal for ~$450 after she sold the ipod. best deals i've seen... then again, i haven't looked. better than the thanksgiving ones, im guessing! Anyone can walk in and buy one too, don't even have to be a student.

So I think I get you can't stack the edu and bf discounts ;)

BUT, what about the iPod trade-in discount? In my fantasy life I'm given the money owed me on Friday (hey, it's my birthday, isn't it nice of all these stores to have sales for me?? Lol!) and I can buy my new touch. If I can use the iPod discount on to of a sale price then I'd probably brave the mall (yuck).

The trade-in page doesn't have many terms and conditions on it, and il thinking you should be able too.....

The entry-level iMac is currently $1,129 at Amazon right now with no tax. I don't think Apple's prices are going to beat that when you factor in the tax. I'm still going to wait a day or two to see what they and the other retailers are going to do, but I think I might have to bite on that deal.

Edit: Best Buy's current deal still is better for me, if only by $16, since you get 5% cashback with Bing, and the unit is $1,099 + tax.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Best Buy Black Friday MB special. Buy a white MB for regular price $999 and you'll get a $150 Best Buy gift card free. That makes the MB $850 (duh). I had been holding out for a Tablet, but I really need a laptop badly now and who knows when/if the Tablet will ever come out so I plan on getting the MB from Best Buy on Friday. We had already planned on buying other gifts from Best Buy so the will really help. Just search Best Buy Black Friday ads and you'll find the full ad.

If you're around a Microcenter store, the white MacBook is $999 with a $200 mail-in-rebate ($800, yay). I've considered getting it, but the max RAM is only 4 gigs (at least what Apple says, but that usually means you can put in more). Still, it's a pretty good deal. I'd get one, but my 3-year-old MBP is still doing fine, and I'll wait for a complete redesign to get another.

Thanks for the info, but we don't have any Microcenter stores around here. $850 for a white MB isn't too bad. I've been wanting a MB for a long time now, but just couldn't bring myself to spend $1000 on a laptop, but I'll spend $850. Also for what it's worth, I asked the Best Buy sales person (who actually works for Apple), if I needed to be at Best Buy at 4:00 in the morning to get a MB on Black Friday and he didn't think so. He said you're still paying full price and most of the folks that show up in the early hours are looking for items at really reduced prices.

Is that the old iMac?

So, they show the Magic Mouse, wonder if that will be on sale?
I need a new mouse, the nipple has stopped working and i really like using that function.

Nice thanks for sharing, might have to head to best buy now :)

I know what I'm buying on Friday...

...unless my homies at Apple can still hook me up with a better deal than that. :D

You want to make Apple start dealing just refuse to buy, they will have no other choice then to start becoming more realistic with their prices.

I have the money to spend, but why spend more just because?

Yeah, but however, at least here in Portugal, FNAC is hosting a nationwide "Client Days" programme for fidelity card holders this Thursday and Friday which includes, besides the extra free concerts in the stores' theatres late into the evening, 10% discount off of mostly everything, Macs included! And, especially for expensive items like Macs, they even allow you to make your purchase even if they're out of stock (maybe at the expense of a few days' worth of warranty, but seriously, it's TEN friggin' percent we're talking about).

The only reason you might be pissed at Apple would be if you wanted a BTO Mac like, say, a Core i7 iMac. Fortunately for me, I decided I'll pass on the i7 and guess I'm getting myself a Core i5 iMac this Thursday after all... :apple:

And instead of having to plunk down €1800 (a whopping $2700), with a €180 ($270) discount it comes out at a slightly more palatable €1620 ($2425), with taxes. These values are ridiculous nonetheless, so I cringe whenever I hear americans complain about Apple's prices; the VAT here is a ginormous and inescapable 20% (interestingly, in Spain it's only 16%, lucky you), the minimum wage is but €450 ($674), and Apple loves to screw europeans in general with an unfair and absurd USD>EUR 0.90 conversion rate (at least here in Portugal after factoring in taxes, and I still remember when it was an even more preposterous 1:1 rate) whereas the actual one is just 0.67...

[Edit:]
Good news for you, it seems you spoke out too soon... The banners have appeared already on both stores; "Otra razón para amar los viernes" ("Another reason to love fridays") is a nice one, but I like the portuguese one better: "Nunca mais é 6ª feira" ("Friday can't come soon enough") is something we actually say colloquially but for Saturdays instead, which is a cool pun for an otherwise makeshift slogan, since we don't really have anything to TG for (not on this particular friday, at least ;) ). That is, unless it's Our Jobs they're talking about... :D

is it online or the store?

Discover card 10% also will help!

The ad says to check back online on Friday so does this mean this is an online only sale and not available at the apple stores?

EPP discount + Black Friday discount

While Apple may not be combining the Black Friday discounts with the education discount, they will be at least partially combining it with the EPP (Employee Purchase Program) discount. The EPP discount is available for employees of the government or other large companies. Here is the text I have seen for the EPP Black Friday event:

Log into the Apple EPP web site on Friday, 11/27/09 for additional holiday discounts on top of the already discounted prices! Additionally, on Monday, 11/30/09, purchase Mac, iPhone or iPod accessories and get free shipping regardless of the purchase total (you always get free shipping on totals over $50).
