Once Apple has iPhones in a decent number of cars it should really help their mapping. Traffic info should also be really good.

Who would use this driving their brand new Ferrari. Apple maps is still a mess for me in the UK with missing streets and missing bends in the road.

Weird. It's much better for me, I live in quite a rural area. Never have problems when I've travelled around the UK. Whereas google maps claims my road doesn't exist, despite the house being built 15 years ago.....

To be honest I have hardly ever had any problem with Apple maps (Resident in UK also) I have both Google and Apple maps, the Google one gets used less and less.

Yup. Some of these manufacturers have a reputation for quality, so how can they endorse Apple Maps? Stupid of them. Being able to use other maps should have been a deal breaker for anyone who knew what they were doing.

Nowhere on here does it say that you have to use your iPhone for navigation. I'm sure they will still have their own built-in navigation. This gives you the option to have a more all-in-one integration with your iPhone, if you want.

iOS 7 ugly on an iPhone, even uglier in a car.

It just doesn't work anymore. The identical colors are confusing at best. There have removed any visual cue that would make each icon unique and recognizable.

In a broader scope, I feel this is too little and too late. Something tells me Google is set to win the car OS battle. :(

I thought ford didn't want anything to do with apple since it has Microsoft sync, I guess they realized how stupid that was.

Anyone to create a protest Website to put pressure on VAG for integration in Audi and Porsche ?

I'm part of the crowd that says my next car purchase will depend on the availability of CarPlay.

And I guess I'm not the only one !

If this is your main criteria for purchase of a new car then you should not be allowed to drive.

Really hoping it makes it into the 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang, but I doubt it.

Overall it looks pretty good...however, most of the touch screens themselves in the cars are really poorly designed.

so since in the States autopark featured cars have not been allowed

Not true. Lots of US car models have auto-parking (aka Park Assist) as an option, including some non-European models like Fords and Infiniti.

(I am european, and I don't and I won't own an autopark enabled car)

Why not?

Why does that name sound like a dirty euphemism to me?

Anyways, I'm tired of new shiny features that seem like an open invitation to distract already-retarded drivers on the road.

Good step, but I was expecting something like "Carplay (what a stupid name) will enter in the basic configuration of all available models of these 10 manufactures" and also "consult the list of the car models which can be upgraded by your manufcaturer to support this new funcionality".

Volvo, will probably ask you to pay extra 1,000$ for this funcionality and only if you alrdy purchas some other extras for 5-6,000$ to the basic model. And maybe it wont be in every Volvo but only in some models and if you just bought the new Volvo, you can forget to use it, because it will be only in the next year model.

Wider integration is the key to go ahead with this new car integration between the car system and the phone. It must like "Your new car dosent have Carplay? Thats wierd, I thought it comes in all new cars!" and not "Wow, you have Careplay, I havent seen one until now!".

And before you go with Ferrari, you better have some normal manufactures, like Fiat and VW for example, because I rly dont care if the new Pagani Huayra has Carplay.

And where is Tesla btw?

Care to elaborate ?

It is a main point when choosing between 3 or 4 makes. At a certain point, security is not an issue anymore. Take a high end BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. As of today, Audi is out of the picture for me as my next car. And I have been an Audi driver for 30 years !

Sad, but true.

In my experience Apple Maps find more streets than Navigon and Google Maps. Last week Navigon failed me with the right address, Maps didn't. Last summer in vacation i used Maps more than Google Maps and Navigon, for the same reason.

I was very excited about the iOS in the Car or what is now called Carplay. I have owned VW in the past and an Audi at the present. If VAG decides not to participate in Carplay, I will seriously consider bringing my business elsewhere. The time I spent with my phone is way more than in the car. So why should I change my phone just so it will play nice with the car?

When google have their own system available, I believe auto manufacturers should make both apple/android systems available to customers. Picking one over another limit our choices as customers. Very bad for business.

I'm in the same boat. I love my Golf but integration is huge and I want my iPhone connected at this level. They need to get on this. Hopefully by the time I need to buy my next car they will.

Apple maps are not even available for my country :(

And I wonder how these products would compete against Google Glass...

Before it launches they should have the car camera app so you can take photos in front and behind including 1080p video. And don't forget Touch ID and any other innovations. i don't want to have to buy a brand new car every year so they might as well include 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 features in the car at launch.
