Apple are lossing sales that why they need to give free Beats headphones.....very unusal for Apple.....

Apple today announced an upcoming one-day sale in celebration of Chinese New Year, where the company will provide free Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones in red to all customers who purchase a select Mac or iPhone in various countries around the world.

The sale will kick off on January 6 at 8:00 a.m. local time and will be available in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. A Chinese New Year announcement is available in Malaysia, but the country is not included in the free headphone offer.

To get the free Beats headphones, customers in eligible countries will need to purchase an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or Mac Pro, but the late 2016 MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar is excluded from the sale. Eligible iPhones include the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple's sale announcement is accompanied by a New Year's gift guide featuring a range of New Year's-themed products in red and gold, including a lion dance LionBot kit, a limited edition DJI Phantom 4 drone, and a Chinese New Year iPhone 7 case from Tech21.

Last year, Apple celebrated Chinese New Year by introducing two exclusive Apple Watch Sport models featuring (PRODUCT)RED Sport Bands.

Why is the tbMBP excluded from the offer? Shouldn't the people dropping the most $$ be included in the offer?
Makes sense from a business perspective. You want to skim the customers who are willing to buy the latest technology. The free Beats for older products just help move inventory. I would do the same thing. Not to mention this makes me happy, since I already got the 2016 MBP before this announcement.

Seems weird to me that they only do this for these select Asian countries. What about America their home turf? Nothing special at all? - We did just celebrate Christmas and our own new year.

EDIT: You can stop quoting me guys, I get it ^.^
Because most people in America don't celebrate Chinese New Year.

"Purchase Mac Pro" o_O:Do_O:Do_O

I'd want a lot more than some free Beats headphones for doing that. I'd want to f*ck Tim Cook cause he's sure f*cking us with those prices.

I wouldn't wear those red monstrosities even if you paid me. Their marketing folks sure know how to give them an extra sparkle but big, loud looking muffs like that are old hat.

I dare Apple to offer up free AirPods, might tempt me to buy a new iPhone.

aw, I wish Japan had this promotion. it is the year of the rooster here too.

I'm not from asia, not that it matters. Allready have beats bluetooth headphones. Never gonna buy it again. Laggy bluetooth, bad quality, glued ear puffs that goes apart after 1.5 year of gentle usage, and sound isnt all that good. Only thing above normal on those headphones are price. And, currently no macs are tempting either since they are all massively overpriced and outdated,... so time for apple to make some better products than start making discounts if they want to grow their market share. Even my iphone 7 upgrade from 6s was a pointless investment, IMO

I don't necessarily agree with you about the Macs. But, Beats are easily overpriced and their appeal seem to me that of a teenager. Beats were never a product that fully matured and appear to be losing its luster with other products offering more of a refined listening experience.

These sales have been a tradition for Apple in Asia for a while now and are merely an adaption to national traditions.

If you want this tradition to come to the West there needs to be the needed cultural exchange.

We didn't get Black Friday and Cyber Monday in Europe by mere chance, it's because we are culturally rather close to the US whilst the bonds to Asia are still mostly "exotic".

I assume Apple wouldn't mind bringing a sale-booster to the US and elsewhere, but they can't just yell "Happy New Year!" when nobody gets it.

I mean they could, but there needs to be SOME basis for this.

One way to gently introduce it could be to offer this sale in cities with big Chinese communities and even China Towns at first and then let it spread.

I'd say Christmas is a small western cultural tradition. :)

Though Cook is so PC , he will not even acknowledge it as Christmas....it's the "holiday season"

No I understand that is a personal opinion.
I've been a mac fan for more than 10 years, professionally worked on them and bought the top of the line BTO iMac for every second generation. But, no more. I need something more powerful than Mobile components and the only other option is a 3 year old extremely (!!!!!) overpriced Mac Pro. Build quality is of course immaculate on Macs and Apple products (not Beats) but that doesn't help when they fail to update them. And to be honest the Mac Book pro 2016 was a very incremental performance update with an extreme price tag increase as well. So not exactly moving in a positive direction in my opinion. So, for that reason I feel something ia really not heading in the right direction in the Macs department in Apple. Its all ready 6 months since I replaced my iMac with a PC because of this development and nothing new is on the horizon still - and most likely nothing revolutionary is being developed on Macs for the next years anyway.

I completely understand what you're saying. If the March 2017 Keynote doesn't bring much to the table, then the Surface Pro Studio is on my Watch list.

It's also a patriotic color in China. Much like Americans will paint something red white and blue for the sake of patriotism.

Red symbolized good luck in Chinese culture far before the modern era. You will find this use of red universal in countries outside of Mainland China, like Taiwan and Singapore.

Christmas isn't typically a "shoot some deals" season.

It's the season of "why offer discounts, you practically have to buy, you come to us."

Well, at least roughly.
Not sure about the US though.

All the best. From all the reviews I have read about the surface studio, it's fairly underpowered for its price.

Let's see what March has to bring First before any are decisions made. Honestly, Underpowered or not, I Am really in the market for a desk top more updated than the current iMac. I think the current iMac is still a great piece of hardware, but I am not heavy tasker, so either unit will my serve my needs. But if the rumors are accurate, March has a refresh coming. My first choice is Apple, as all Products I own are Apple.

Has anyone been to these one day shopping events in Asia? I am still in HK for like 6 months and want to buy new iPhone so might as well buy it on the 6th. If I go there when the store opens, do you think there will be a huge line for hours?

Beat headphones are awful and overpriced.

I've got some Powerbeats and they're a joy. Haven't used their other, larger models. What did you think of them?

Buy AirPods?

If you guys want real sound with real bass in them, try V-MODA. Either Crossrade M-100 or the wireless version.

Beats is just childish audio quality.
