Imagine paying $3500 to play VRChatI wonder if VRchat will be supported. I just started getting into VRchat and it's a lot of fun, even in desktop mode as I don't have a VR headset yet.
If this thing supports VRchat it may be worthwhile as you know it will be well engineered with excellent image quality. If it doesn't, there's pretty much zero point in buying it for me.

Hahahahah so thuggish*swipes card* "You are on your... _THIRD_ ... mortgage!"
My thoughts exactly. There was a company that released a concept like this recently, remember LTT being extremely positive about it.My questionable opinion is that this is designed wrong. Since there's a belt clip battery and it's tethered, wouldn't it make more sense to house the cpu there, and make it modular? Make the eyewear as light as possible? You could use a version of a phone. Sell more phones, create upgrade paths. I could really get into this. This is something the great Steve Jobs might have done, setting goals for eyepiece weight, which really needs to be a a certain spec for something like this to go mainstream.
Just not this version.
It's insane that they charge $150 extra for this. I can get a pair of single vision glasses in my prescription for $40 online. Prescription lenses don't cost that much to make.w
why this ****???
Yeah. I was sure it was going to cost an additional $1,000.I'm actually shocked at the price of the Zeiss Prescription Lenses! $149, when everyone was certain they would be $300 to $500.
It totally depends on the devs. VRchat works on Quest and I believe supports hands tracking.I wonder if VRchat will be supported. I just started getting into VRchat and it's a lot of fun, even in desktop mode as I don't have a VR headset yet.

It's only a gamble in terms of time invested into this whole thing. Money is irrelevant for Apple.I am sorry Tim, but unless the public buys into this ridiculous notion, the era of spatial computing isn't here....
This is such a huge gamble for Apple...
Agreed. I mentioned in another thread that an event is something that really could have swayed people who are sitting on the fence about this. Not giving a demonstration to show people why they SHOULD get this (or at least want to) is a missed opportunity...No event? Weird decision.
You can get a pair of single vision Zeiss glass for $40? Would you please post a link as to where? Just bought a pair of new Zeiss lenses for a friend as a birthday present, no frames (he already had frames he liked), and they cost close to $300.It's insane that they charge $150 extra for this. Let's have a minute of silence for all the products at CES that will get 0 attention in the next 48 hours
I originally paid $2,499 for the first 5K iMac back in 2014:I don’t think price will go down for the pro. Everything Apple products get a higher price each year
My guess -- the Super Bowl. If you look at the price of tickets, it makes the Vision Pro look inexpensive. The trick is having a team on site to produce the content in 3D. Then they promote the hell out of it and get people to want their $3500 device ASAP to be the first to experience the Super Bowl in this way.So anticlimactic, is this meant for devs only? Wonder what their target is for this year
Do we know the release time frame for this and the non pro?I originally paid $2,499 for the first 5K iMac back in 2014:
Apple Announces 27-Inch iMac With Retina 5K Display Starting at $2500
At today's media event, Apple announced the next-generation 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display carrying a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels, as...www.macrumors.com
In the proceeding years, Apple lowered the price precipitously - all the way to a $1,799 starting price. Mac mini also now starts at $599 so prices do come down.
A $3,499 starting price has a very limited audience. That price is inflated to cover huge R&D expenses and I wouldn’t be surprised if the 3rd generation starts at $2,499 or less
There is a big difference between transferring power or data via a cable. My questionable opinion is that this is designed wrong. Aaaa how I miss the $1,799 iMac 🧡 still not over it…I originally paid $2,499 for the first 5K iMac back in 2014:

When is the next version? After three years?Aaaa how I miss the $1,799 iMac 🧡 still not over it…
Agreed on this point though, the iPhone also had a dramatic drop in price after the 1st gen. That (and the iMac you mention) are good examples of products that were ahead of their time, and subsequently got price cuts as the tech matured. I’d guess the 2nd gen would be down to $2,999, and hopefully down to $2,499 eventually.
I think the displays are without doubt the biggest cost, I’m sure once they’re producing tens of millions (rather than a few hundred thousand) the cost will come down a lot, just like the iMac 5k
What's special about Zeiss? I've never had any trouble with plain ordinary generic CR39 eyeglasses from eyebuydirect. They are awesome optically. No chromatic aberration, distortion or other issues. You can get a pair of single vision Zeiss glass for $40? Would you please post a link as to where? Just bought a pair of new Zeiss lenses for a friend as a birthday present, no frames (he already had frames he liked), and they cost close to $300.
