Although I don’t use these products I think this plays into Apple’s intent for having these offered as “services”. There are already talks of the iPhone being part of this as well and look at all the other efforts Apple has put into getting folks in the door more recently with split payments, savings accounts, and now final cut which content creators have been screaming about for a long time. Do subscriptions sucks, YUP, but that is what Apple is moving towards and you’ll never truly own anything with an upgrade right around the corner (think leasing a car).

It’s much more reasonable to sell a 300$ software on Mac that on an iPad (a device that cost less than half compared to a MacBook Pro).
i’d love to agree with you, but unfortunately… No.
Finalcut is restricted to M1 iPads and Logic to A12X, neither of which are half as expensive as a MacBook Pro.
At launch both started at $799, and can easily go up to close to 3000 once you include TB of storage, keyboard and pencil.
The subscription is more than likely simply because that’s how things sell these days, that’s how money is made. One time purchases with free upgrades isn’t exactly something that’s going to last.
That’s how we end up with how finalcut is on the Mac right now, where it can go months and months without an update or a bug fix.
I’d expect the Mac version of Finalcut to be updated very shortly after the iPad one launches with the same subscription options.

Another motivator for bringing a touchscreen to the Mac. Perhaps only one UX, or two compatible UXs, to learn.

Sub is not a total turn off, but it makes me wary. Will try the free trial and see how it preforms on my base iPad.

I would hate to use these on an iPad. I get most people use their phones/tablets these days but anything beyond basic web browsing, watching videos, or posting **** online I can't deal with touch screens. Give me a proper keyboard and mouse set up for doing anything serious like music production or video editing.

Am I the only one who got sick of the subscription models?
Yes, across all of the internet you are the only one who is sick of the subscription model.

Disappointed to see Apple move away from purchase/ownership to the "subscription model" for its software. I have bought lots of apps outright over the years but I really, really dislike subscriptions. Not only is it a recurring payment *forever* but cancelling the subscription often means you can no longer use the files you already created with the application. It's almost like extortion -- paying protection money to ensure the files you created last year will still work next year. This is a worrisome precedent.

Will the macOS version switch to subscription only as well? Or remain as one time purchase?
