Are you kidding me? Apple didn't earn many points in my eyes today. Bought an iPad 3 four months ago and now it is outdated  Apple should start some trade in program or do something. LAME

#firstworldproblems

You're on Mac Rumors where rumors of a quick revision of the New iPad had been reported for awhile.

My kids wanted an iPad mini for Christmas - NO WAY - just wait six months and it will get the retina display.

I was disappointed to see the mini lacks a retina display. For me the cost is ridiculous without that feature. I have been considering a first iOS device purchase but I can't justify at Apple's price points not knowing the utility I'd get from the device.

AC and AC+ are apples gold standard, and worth every penny. If you have never used it, do not knock the plan. I will let you know my outcome. Maybe you will think twice the next time you are offered the plan.

I have it and have used it. What you are suggesting to do is not part of the plan. You are abusing Apple's world class customer service for an upgrade to which you are not entitled.

You are gaming the system and seem to be proud of it.

Why is Apple still offering the iPad 2 along with the iPad "4"? Wouldn't you think they would stop the iPad 2 and continue offering the iPad 3 along with the iPad 4??

Very angry, sorry.

I know my iPad does all the same it did, but I waited until the third gen, shelled out £649 for THE top end model, and it got 7 months on the market.

I play a lot of games, and my iPad is left behind before it even got a killer app.

Real Racing 3 ... *sigh*

Can't help but feel scunnered.

Looking at Geekbench scores, iPad 2 and iPad 3 have similar performance for games. All that extra A5X CPU guts is just to push extra pixels. Really, you were paying for the Retina screen, versus performance. The iPad "4" should be a monster like the iPhone 5. At this point there's nothing that would specifically need all that... Mostly things go faster. For Games, the iPad Mini will be "just as fast" as your iPad 3 so you won't be "losing out" on anything.

What were yhey really going to do? Leave the flagship iPad with no lightening connector for all the NEW accessories, or rework the case for an iPad 3.5? then release iPad "4" AFTER the holiday?

Yeh, but they need to provide you an on the spot replacement. Pretty sure no Apple store stock 1s or 2s refurbs.

I've had two original iPads provided to me in the last couple of months at an Apple store as out of warranty replacements.

I haven't been happy with ipad 3's weight/heat/battery life and was gonna sell it when ipad mini came out.

My question is:

Does the iPad retina address all the "issues" the new iPad had? Heat, long charging time for battery?

I'm assuming so - also assuming that's one of the reasons for discontinuing the new iPad. They were going to move to the lightning connector, had this awesome A6 chip and decided just to get it all out of the way - fix issues, consolidate the lineup and release the 4th gen early.

Hope the new newer iPad is as cold to touch as my original iPad.

The display is the defining factor. The Geekbench scores for iPad 2 and iPad 3 are close... But iPad 3 has that gorgeous display. There is no "iPad 3 lite" because without the extra-expensive display, there is no performance difference between 2 and 3.

Really, iPad 3 was more like 2.75. Apple's chip design team just caught up on the same track as the iPhone team.

I know not this iPad of which you speak. It hath been scrubbed.

To be honest, I still don't find a reason to update from my iPad 2.

There's not, the iPad mini is the same thing. Developers will be supporting it for a while. Unless you need the improved camera features and Retina display.

Well I agree that I feel a little ripped off. They won't get anymore of my money for the announced products. IPad 4 is not worth it for the minimal upgrades and as a way for them to force the new connector on me.
Minimal? iPhone5 announces 2X CPU power and it is a big deal, iPad4 announces 2X CPU and it is minimal???

Lifecycles

C'mon all who are moaning. We KNOW that electronics are constantly updated. Whatever we purchase as the latest and greatest Apple thingee, we know that within a year or less a newer model will be released. If you are wealthy, go purchase the newest item every time and get it on the first day it is released.
As for the rest of us ordinary folk who plan, save and then purchase after careful decisions about model, specs, etc, we can continue to enjoy the product we purchased and still love.
Our iPad3s have not died. They still perform wonderfully. They seemed so fast yesterday. Guess what , they have not slowed down. If your current iPad does what you need it to do for you, enjoy. It continues to be a faithful friend and helper. You can still install thousands of applications.
Let the owners of the new iPad4 bask a bit knowing they now have the latest. Wait. Next year (or in seven months or whatever) you can purchase the iPad 5 or whatever Apple has devised for us. Stop complaining, start saving and dreaming now. :)

So did apple silently fix the heat dissipation issue, battery charging issue, and drop to one backlight (the backlight thing might be coupled with the heat issue)? If those happened as well, then this is a better update then they say. . .still the same weight and size though.

It's not minimal, just iPad 3 owners saying it's no big deal when they're really thinking it is and are pissed about it.

Now, the question for me is should I get the iPad 4 despite no weight reduction, get a iPad mini with iPad 2 specs, a slightly better display (my second iOS device with a A5 after my 4S) or wait a freaking year for the iPad 5? I don't want to wait a year so the it's the first two options for me. Which one is better? I almost forgot to mention, it would be my first iPad.

does this mean that the iPad 3 will get a price drop?? :D :D :D
Maybe on the remaining ones. I don't know if it would be enough to justify not going with the newest one though. Probably not.

That's what I'm wondering. I have both of these issues. So if they did fix them and the also solved the issues that some people (me, for instance) were having with uneven backlighting and weird screen tints, this might be a worth upgrade, and I might be talked into selling my iPad 3 in favor of it. I don't really care much about the improved processor, and I couldn't care less about the lightning adapter. But fixing two of my major gripes about my current iPad would make it just about perfect.

What's to say that you'd have to wait a year. I never expected them to release this today. I figured that they would stick to their once a year cycle. Maybe the iPad 5 will come out in March. Who knows what they'll do anymore?

Some people say iPad is too heavy to read a book on it for a long time. It is also too large to use if you take a crowded train or bus and try to use it while standing up or squeezing on a seat in between other people with their coats. If it is for at home browsing, watching movies, viewing photos or playing games, the bigger and retina screen is definitely better.

The more I think of it, the more I want the retina display of the iPad 4. Sure, there may be times when a lighter, more portable iPad would be nice, but I already know that I'll be pissed when a retina display shows up on the iPad mini next year. It looks like the iPad mini will always be the little brother to the regular iPad, with last year's specs (just like the 5th gen iPod Touch got the specs from my 4S, except for the display).

Well, it looks like it's a iPad 4 for me and maybe a iPad mini next year when it gets a retina display & A6.:)
