I see some 4th Amendment issues with the Digital ID. Right now, the police can’t require you to type in your password to unlock your phone. But if you need to do so to show your ID, that opens it up to search.
Just use your burner phone for identification.

Great new features for iMessage!!
Wow I can’t wait to use it with my friends!!
Oh wait, iMessage it’s not cross compatible on android or web?

GuesI’ll never use any of those great features.

Go apple for privacy, more reason to use Facebook messenger because there is no popular alternative to compete Apple.
They had a chance to really make a pro privacy statement with making a
safe app people can use.

soon as they make something cross compatible, they’ll have an app to win the masses. The longer they don’t act, the harder it will be in the future when they decide to release a competitor.

I’d rather iMessages 50% less features and be cross compatible instead of an unused app because everyone else has WhatsApp.
I agree with you, all my messaging is going through Facebook servers and I don't like it at all, none of my friends use iMessage because it's iPhone only

iMessage is arguably one of the most important apps on iOS, and the updates are a huge letdown. Still no disappearing messages or group invite links (although invite links do some to FaceTime). Very disappointing and a big missed opportunity.

Signal keeps innovating. Have you tried it? Its cross-platform, mobile & desktop and it offers the gold-standard in encryption.

Things I like: New Weather app, can add drivers license to Wallet, that wallpaper!, cleaner notifications
Other stuff: who the hell groupfacetimes?

I don’t use my 6s anymore, but for those who do, it’s great news that it will be getting iOS 15. I’ll still update my 6s, just to stay current.

Pretty disappointed with that. The only thing that raised my eyebrows was the updates to weather.

Was hoping for Lock Screen and/or control centre improvements.

The same argument usually could be made with regards to BBM back in the day however at least with BBM all the devices run the same platform and the same BBM would work with the same features. The problem with android is this so much issues with compatibility with versions that it doesn’t make sense to make an app for android because versions

it's kind of sad how they are making such an effort for people to use the news app)

Why is it sad? They’re improving the News app and better integrating it into iOS. Sounds a lot like what they did with Apple Maps and look at where that is now. That’s kinda how things work with Apple’s mew ventures. Start basic and iterate iterate iterate.

The News app is the first stop of my day and I increasingly refer back to it when checking on news throughout the day. It’s far more functional with the tweaks they made in iOS 14 and with its widget on my Home Screen.

So they released those emails where Phil Schiller was against iMessage for Android because parents would buy cheap Android phones for their kids.

My guess is the Apple calculus works something like this...Apple probably has an estimate of how much revenue or profit per user they get from an iPhone customer over the lifetime of the device they buy. That includes apps, iCloud, maybe accessories and whatever else you spend your money on with Apple. My guess is that in order to make iMessage cross-platform, they need to find a way to make Android users somehow pay something equal to that average revenue number, to make up for the lost iPhone sales. Which will never happen, who's going to pay hundreds of dollars for iMessage?

You don’t have to unlock your phone to open Wallet. I think the way this is going, there’ll be a contactless transfer of information and you never have to hand over your phone or even show it. Police, TSA, or other authorities would have an app on their device that can request ID, a pop up comes on your screen, you authorize showing your ID and choose what to share, be it just your name, DoB and driver’s license or passport and they get that info that they can then search their database for.

Wow, the new maps update is just fantastic, the amount of detail and design in general is just incredible. Even though it is going to be a slow roll out.
