I may be in the minority but I’m really impressed with this update. It has a lot of useful features added to the apps I use the most. I Group FaceTime with friends every week. These updates will be great. The Photos enhancements look really cool. I like what they’re doing with Maps. I use iMessages constantly. The ability to see shared links in the News or Music app looks extremely handy rather than scrolling back through chats to find the story someone shared. I’m really excited by all the updates!

Great new features for iMessage!!
Wow I can’t wait to use it with my friends!!
Oh wait, iMessage it’s not cross compatible on android or web?

GuesI’ll never use any of those great features.

Go apple for privacy, more reason to use Facebook messenger because there is no popular alternative to compete Apple.
They had a chance to really make a pro privacy statement with making a
safe app people can use.

soon as they make something cross compatible, they’ll have an app to win the masses. The longer they don’t act, the harder it will be in the future when they decide to release a competitor.

I’d rather iMessages 50% less features and be cross compatible instead of an unused app because everyone else has WhatsApp.
Entirely depends on who your friends are, I guess.

In my case most of my family and friends are Apple users so iMessage works great!

And in Apple's best interest, I'm sure a lot of my friends would not be Apple users if not for exclusive software like imessage. They may not be winning the masses but they're definitely winning customers and locking them into the ecosystem which is arguably a lot more important for Apple

Telegram is a top ten download messaging platform with most of the capabilities of Snapchat, WhatsApp, kik, hangouts, and more, over 500million users worldwide encrypted conversations, privacy features and self destructing messages in an open source platform that strive to remain free, group chats for up to 200000 users as many many many other features. It’s another app that respects the users privacy and doesn’t collect data or inject advertising into your personal communications, it also allows you to provide a screen name rather than a phone number or email that scammers are often phishing for. I agree apple could work on the development of a cross platform iMessage but it may be outside of its capacity to deliver the same security and functionality on the inferior operating system. The group chats android users create that include iPhone users I find to be horrific and it’s likely some similar obstacles that delay a cross platform iMessage. To claim there is no option better than Facebook is misleading and an opportunity for you to expand your horizons. Telegram is also cloud based so minimal data requirements for app, and streamlined to be one of the fastest message delivery services. I am not paid to endorse the app just to be clear, I promote it to enlighten those whom have yet to discover it and the various other features it provides. Facebook would limit you to Facebook users granted it has an extensive network, it’s becoming bitter tasting and the desire for something new grows daily. Something about being the commodity that is offered just doesn’t set right with people. I’d take MySpace back over Facebook, for the chats if the option was viable these days. Facebook censorship, and intrusive manner is overreaching and it’s time as the platform of choice is limited continuously in its approaches.

Compared to previous years, iOS 15 is pretty underwhelming. All fluff and no significant updates to the fundamental things - i.e. home/lock screen etc.

You don’t have to unlock your phone to open Wallet. I think the way this is going, there’ll be a contactless transfer of information and you never have to hand over your phone or even show it. Police, TSA, or other authorities would have an app on their device that can request ID, a pop up comes on your screen, you authorize showing your ID and choose what to share, be it just your name, DoB and driver’s license or passport and they get that info that they can then search their database for.
@dk001 @Babygotfont what are you laughing at? This is exactly what Apple demonstrated:

@MacRumors @arn what is it with the sudden influx of laughing trolls on this forum? We really need a block feature on MacRumors, not just ignore.

Laughing as if it will be that simple. In California they are just now - kind of - getting around to start looking at the feasibility of allowing the use of digital ID's such as drivers license.

Users can also create Home Screen pages with apps and widgets that apply to moments of focus to display relevant apps only.

THIS

What is this. Do we have to create our own home screen to match the 'Focus' point we are using. and then swipe to that screen.. OR will the home screen change completely as we design focus modes?

So for a 'at work' focus.. i can have all my work related apps. Then 'commute' focus kicks in at 5pm my home screen updates to only show my 'commute apps' and then at home.. etc etc..

If we have to create and SWIPE to each one this wont work. As we will need say Safari across all homes screens but if we can create them... depending on time.. this is a game changer..

Which? I personally think the former..

A lot of it seems to be a little late into the pandemic
Agreed, although it's important to keep in mind that it's still raging in many parts of the world (India, Africa, South America, etc.). I also don't mind continuing some of our "lockdown era" rituals -- for example, it encouraged us to start a regular games night with overseas friends via video chat, which I hope to continue.
