I'll definitely get one in a month or 2. The only disappointment is the VGA front camera, I would have thought it would be better than 640x480 considering the iPads screen size and the recent FaceTime HD cameras on the new MacBook Pros.

I thought the iPad refresh today was rather significant. Last year, the thing was simply a large iPod touch. It seems like the gap between the iPod touch and the iPad had widened even further because of the refresh (which in my opinion is a good thing). And with the same price, this year's model is much more convincing to buy.

I thought it was significant also.

Some of the "it doesn't do ____" comments are so specific to that person. If you want certain things, there's something called a "Laptop" or "Notebook" that is more powerful and better suited for your needs. Again, you don't have to buy it :D

anyone use skype video chat on the iphone 4? does it work with both cameras?

thinking if i should buy the ipad 1 refurb and just use my iphones for the video chat

iPad costs 499 dollars. I don't need or ever want 3G or 4G device. It costs more and I will not pay separate data plan from my smart phone.

wi-fi iPad wins for me. Xoom cost 799 dollars and that is the only choice you have.
Bye, xoom.

Seems as though you were watching a different presentation. Here, let me help you out.

Almost as heavy.
So you admit that it's lighter than it was before.

Same price is doing me a "favor" with all the competition offering thinner, lighter, cheaper, more open OS?
Please share with us the thinner (there aren't any) and lighter (there aren't any) and cheaper (there aren't any) options. Please highlight the ones that get 10 hours of battery life also. I'd also like notations next to the ones that have rear HD cameras. Please don't include tablets that you can't actually purchase (no vaporware!). Xoom is thicker than the iPad (.5 to .34 inches) and weighs more (1.6 to 1.3 lbs).

I know we all hate flash, but the reality is 25% of the top 100 pages on the net still use it, so we can either have access to it or not have access, they go with #2 to try and make a statement
I think what you mean to say is we can have access to it, or have a usable battery. You'll notice that the Xoom didn't even ship with flash (although it's entire campaign was based on that). They can't get it optimized to have decent battery life. See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26574892@N07/5475257624/

Comparing your year-old platform to one that hasn't even been released yet?
Um, yeah. He has a point. Take RIM for example, which has upgraded the Playbook THREE times and hasn't shipped a single version.

It's all just a mess, this is Android's year.
Yep. They've had so much success!

I was really hoping they'd wow us with something to give all the new Android tablets a run for the money.

I'm not buying, more for the rest of you.

The good news is that nobody is buying the Android tablets, so there should be plenty of those for you. Their battery life is terrible (3 hours on one!), and they have minimal apps available for them. The funny thing about all of the competing tablets is that they are at the top of their games. It just doesn't get any better from here for them. They have NO clue where a tablet fits in the market.

After a year of owning an iPad, I will say that I wish I had 3G sometimes. So whenever I upgrade, I'll be getting the 3G version. I often took my iPad and MBP with me, when in reality, if I had 3G, I wouldn't need to.

I think this is a a great update. Hopefully they doubled the memory, I am sure they did. I would have liked to seen it a little lighter (only 15% reduction here). Everything else is incredible. Must resist urge to upgrade though...

A port would have been nice, but what I think is critical is a TB controller to take advantage of the speed that the I/O offers. This, as far as can be told at the point, does not have it. Without this, the iPad 1.5 is old before its time.

Nonsense!

You absolutely need a thunderbolt connection on your iPad 2 right now?

For what? So you can transfer 50 GB of photo's, music and videos in a minute? You do that a lot from an iPad?

I mean sure, it would be nice to have ports, but you don't really need them desperately. If that's a deal killer for you I'm baffled.

I don't see any of the "negatives" you posted as legitimate issues.

Can’t decide if this is an iPad 1.5 or 1.4. Perhaps the name "iPad Lacking" is more fitting. I'll wait for the REAL iPad 2.

Positives
- Size
- Camera
- Speed
- More case options

Negative
- No LP/TB Support (no port or controller) makes this a relic before its even sold
- RAM ???
- No ‘world’ model; its either CDMA or GSM.
- Screen Resolution is the same
- No super-special daylight viewable screen
- Design has not soul
- GPS not on the Wi-Fi model
- No vibration motor for alerts or games

You have got to be kidding me. Anyone who was expecting to see thunderbolt on the ipad should remove themselves from the gene pool. By the time we all have PCs that are capable of taking advantage of thunderbolt we'll be on the iPad 5 or 6; then you can complain that it's not there.

Stop confusing resolution with dpi. The iphone 4 has the same resolution as the 2g, 3g, and 3gs - it has a higher dpi.

Can anyone confirm how much memory? People are saying 256mb, 512mb and 1gb.

First its not 256 MB, lets get that out of our heads right now. People really need to stop saying that.

We wont know the actual ram till the March 11th when someone runs a ram usage app on the iPad 2. I would bet its going to be 1 GB of ram because its a dual core SOC.

So...in my view I have questions/concerns...especially since it will be another year before iPad 3.0:

1)no better screen resolution?

2)no bigger storage/price ratio? 16Gb is way too small and the 64GB is just too expensive

3)RAM? I have apps on my iPad 1 that crash often due to low memory. Djay being one of them. Apple's website doesn't even list this tech spec

4)Will the video/camera qualities be the same GARBAGE of the iPod Touch? Man that Touch is terrible!

Looks like this isn't that great a release. Basically I get a video camera and a choice of color for the same price. Yawn. And like most of us, I can care less that it's a tad thinner and weighs a tad less. Big deal. We don't all need/lust for things super light that can blow away in the wind.

Wonder what the competition will bring out between now and April 2012.

The new cover is lame. I would prefer something to protect the back from getting scratched. Oh well, always 3rd party.

TB right now has no use. iPad cant use the speed.
TB will only be usefull when all the other products on this planet adopt this and it will be able to send out 1080p over the same cable as it does to charge up and sync data. TB would only be future proof. but for this year. there wont be usefullness in TB eitherway apple would release an dock connecter to TB cable. i dont think they will ever put TB directly on an ios device.

As a person who came from iPods with FireWire..... HELL YES faster I/O has a function.

If this had a TB controller and a TB to 30 pin connector cable was also released, data to/from the iPad would FLY. Sure, not at 10 Gbps, but SIGNIFICANTLY faster then what USB 2.0 can do now. As it stands today, I add movies to my 64GB 3G iPad when I go to bed, because its so slow.

Its a SHIPPING standard. Why wait until its on every computer. The best-selling computers (non iOS) Apple makes, the MacBook Pro, is shipping TODAY with the port. You did not know this? I'll bet during the next three months, it will find its way to the iMac and MacMini as well. I see no logic to add TB to the iPad in 4 to 5 years as you suggest, just to wait for everyone to have the port. Why wait half of a decade? Please tell me. That is CRAZY.

Also, as to confusing resolution and PPI/DPI, go ahead and Call Apple and thell them as well. Here is a simple thing to do of you could. In OS X do this - Apple > System Preferences > Displays. What word do we see? Yes the word "resolutions" very good. Apple uses the word Resolution the same as I did. Oh, lets do something else, shall we.... lets see what Apple says about it. Below is a direct quote from Apple

1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)

Source: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

What is that? Yep, its the word resolution. I confuse nothing sir, I use Apple terminology, pure and simple.

You forgot to mentioned Blu-ray and you got them all...I think is a kick as iPad

The Smart Covers are infinitely better than the Apple Case. That thing sucked ass, and was flimsy as hell.

If it's the same camera on the back as it is on the iPod touch, (which it looks like) photos will look like crap. They don't even look good on the small iPod Touch screen. The video looks great though.

Did I see something on one of the feeds about the new IPad and "personal hotspot" on Iphone 4? If so, what is it?

It means you can turn your iPhone into a personal hotspot to use the Internet with your laptop for example. Android had this feature for ages, been using it with my HTC desire for a long time now, apple is a little slow with introducing this feature, I was surprised it didn't come with the ipad.
