anyone use skype video chat on the iphone 4? does it work with both cameras?

thinking if i should buy the ipad 1 refurb and just use my iphones for the video chat

Yes, works pretty much like facetime. Can switch view. Also works over 3g.

Okay. I still aint seeing how tablets are the future of computing. Maybe I'm just short sighted, but an iPad isn't close to replacing my PC yet.

It's FASTER... It's THINNER... BUT every bit as LIMITED as the first.

Eh, let's have a real EVENT. The one that say iOS 5 addresses all the inherent limitations of iOS 4.x and actually makes "Apple's" tablets practical.

Yes, both cameras or none, tap and switch. 3G or wifi.

my only complaints are that there is no screen that doesn't glare so it is easy to read in the sun. and the fact that we don't know the ram, i feel it should be higher but we don't know. regardless ill still buy one lol

This is a pretty nice upgrade, especially for someone who doesn't have an iPad already and may have been waiting to see what this one would bring. However, for me, it doesn't (seem to) address the 3 biggest shortcomings (for my needs) in my wife's iPad 1:

  • Memory - it gets especially tiring waiting for Safari to reload pages because it had to dump the cache. Actually, since Apple never advertises iOS device memory, we don't know about this one. I give it about a 75% chance of having 512 MB, but really a gigabyte would be much much better.

  • Storage - we got a 16 GB model because of the price point, and it's more than enough for everyday around the house use; but I find myself wishing for much more (at the same price) for an upcoming trip. Both for movies on the plane and for storing photos from the cameras.

  • Screen readability in bright light / sunlight. Too bad the rumors about a better display in this aspect, even if the same resolution, didn't come to fruition.

So, no iPad 2 for us. Maybe a discounted refurb iPad 1 might be nice to address the second point of storage, but then I just don't see a need for 2 iPads in the house (the wife uses it 95% of the time, and I'm fine with that). We'll see what comes next year. ;)

Those are pretty much my same criteria, especially the screen glare. I bought my iPad primarily as a travel device, and was frustrated that I couldn't watch movies on a plane without seeing my own reflection (even with the windowshade down). On the RAM front, I think it's almost certain the iPad 2 will have at least 512 MB, and it seems easily possible it could be 1 GB. We'll know for sure on March 11 after someone tears it down or runs a system profiling app on it.

Almost as heavy. Still no real GPS.

The 3G model has real GPS, just like last year's 3G model had real GPS and just like the iPhone has real GPS. If you were thinking that A-GPS was not real GPS, then you'd be wrong.

Did I see something on one of the feeds about the new IPad and "personal hotspot" on Iphone 4? If so, what is it?

Personal hotspot allows you to create a wifi hotspot so other people nearby can hook up to wifi through your device. For instance, you could share a cell phone based 3G connection with other people over wifi.

It's kindof nice, and hopefully will make wifi connections more ubiquitous.

This makes me worried that I will not be able to get a worldphone iphone 5. This means I'm probably buying an andriod. At a premium of $130, I'm afraid I do not understand why Apple is keeping two separate models. That to me is the biggest disappointment.

Stop confusing resolution with dpi. The iphone 4 has the same resolution as the 2g, 3g, and 3gs - it has a higher dpi.

The iPhone 4 DOES have a higher resolution than the previous iPhones, therefore a higher DPI.

A port would have been nice, but what I think is critical is a TB controller to take advantage of the speed that the I/O offers. This, as far as can be told at the point, does not have it. Without this, the iPad 1.5 is old before its time.

Seriously ? "Critical" ? Do you think people will regularly be powering an external display and transfering 10GB files with there iPad? No - they will be on their couch playing games and reading news. Come on dude - if you need an excuse to not buy this version then there are better ones than that...

I think facetime is absolute crap, i dont think it can compete with skype, at least until they make a windows client (and maybe a linux one which propably wont happen).

Can’t decide if this is an iPad 1.5 or 1.4. Perhaps the name "iPad Lacking" is more fitting. I'll wait for the REAL iPad 2.

Positives
- Size
- Camera
- Speed
- More case options

Negative
- No LP/TB Support (no port or controller) makes this a relic before its even sold
- RAM ???
- No ‘world’ model; its either CDMA or GSM.
- Screen Resolution is the same
- No super-special daylight viewable screen
- Design has not soul
- GPS not on the Wi-Fi model
- No vibration motor for alerts or games

"Design has not soul" Hilarious..just what is this supposed to mean? :D

What more do people want. This is a great update to an already great product. If you look at the android xoom & the price perhaps you can see what your really getting for $499 more apps then you need... front & rear cameras a better ios. this is all good. I say now is the time to get in, don"t walk run:D

I am thinking about waiting in line for it on March 11th. If it comes out 5pm, when should I arrive to get a 64/White/Verizon?

I am asking because I have never waited in line for a product before, I have always ordered through Apple Store.

Hold it for a second. So with the "Hotspot" Feature i could use the 3G connection from my iPhone4 to browse the web on my iPad 2? If so, i wouldnt have to purchase the 3G version. Can anyone confirm this working?

They are keeping separate models in order to bring the absolute lowest price to the consumers that have no need for 3G data capability.

a computer has to be used either on the couch or in a corner of your home. ipad and smartphones anywhere. like reading a book on the train to work

Everyone seems to have missed the biggie.

New AirPlay.

Apps streamed now.

Apple just challenged consoles HARD and no one has noticed yet.

My iPhone controller will be able to control apps on my iPad, my Mac, or my Apple TV.

Wow.

Wooow.

How did you miss this? This is HUGE.

They don't see it because they just like to whine about it not been the perfect fantasy they can imagine, I wonder if they will ever have GF if they think the same way.

you can only airplay video, photos and music. You won't be able to 'airplay' games like angry birds or anything. only videos photos and music. Now, you CAN hook up your hdmi to a tv and mirror it. but then, you have a $500 gaming system hooked up with a cable.

exactly.. I feel like this is iPhone 3G to iPhone 3Gs.

No, the casing changed significantly (much thinner) and they added 2 cameras, which didn't happen with the 3GS. The only thing that the iphone 4 added from the 3GS that the iPad 2 didn't was a higher res screen. So, this is like the iphone 4 upgrade minus the screen res bump.
