This is good news for people who do not have a retina mini and want one, it shouldnt be no issue finding one used for $200 if not less

I'm surprised they keep the Mini 1 still around... Two budget iPad mini models which are the cheaper iPads to begin with due to their size?

We're talking about iPad 2 tech here.

2nd generation performance...

Can you blame them, you have dummies still buying the ipad 2.

Wow even lesser of an update than I expected, not that I was going to get one anyway. This does make my decision a whole lot easier. It's a nice upgrade for those with the iPad Mini 1 but for us with the iPad Mini 2, it's not really worth it at all.

Covering the low-end to compete with some of the Amazon Kindle offerings. It's almost cheap enough to replace one of my Kindles.

So many whiners. This is what they are offering. Take it or leave it, if they would have updated it more, people would complain. Not update it enough, people will complain.

Of course it is, it drives revenue.

The component costs of a Touch ID sensor are lower than what you can give Apple back by using Apple Pay with the small, but still present fees attached.

Apple has always had a very clear idea of what their target price tiers are. They make a point of having an offering at every price tier. This move today makes perfect sense if you keep that in mind, plus the fact that Apple is pushing Apple Pay. It's not about getting a few gizmo fadists to upgrade.

Hmmm....

Couldn't they have just bumped the camera to make people feel like they were getting something?

In saying that, the millions of rMini owners like me are all sitting here feeling pretty smug in the knowledge that there's no reason to feel like we're rocking out-of-date iPads...

I agree though - awful lack of love for the mini being shown by Apple here.

I'm not even in the market for an iPad Mini, but come on.

Yearly legit updates really isn't that much to ask for from a company that sets standards and jams the song of "only we can do this" at any given opportunity.

I also don't understand this policy... why, why, WHY?? It was such a wise thing from Apple that they brought the Air and the mini on the same level spec-wise, and now they make this outrageous move? Heck, NOW I can understand the people who say that they don't even need an iPad next to an i6 Plus. No wonder... and don't come at me with this "it's enough for iOS" bs... yes, today it's enough. But I can see the forum posts here in two years when iOS 10 comes out: warning, don't install it on iPad mini 3, may cause slowdown... anyway, what's up with these cubbish names, iPad mini 3, iPad Air 2, come on... eee, sorry, it's really rare from me to whine here, because normally I'm an Apple fan, but I am starting to get disappointed in many ways...

So damn greedy. If the mini 3 received all of the advances that the Air 2 got today and an improved colors on the display that would have sold me. Instead, they want to promote the Air 2 and the 6+. Maybe that's why Steve believed that Apple shouldn't make an iPad that size. Not because its not the perfect size (which it is) but because of his execs would pull something just like what happened today. Oh and would it kill them to double the GB on the base model?! Almost all new iPads available now have retina displays. Apps that are optimized for them are not getting any smaller.

When I said that Touch ID was worth the upgrade to me, I didn't mean it literally! I didn't expect it to really be the ONLY update.

Seriously, it's so pathetic. I would have bought it if it had Touch ID AND an A8, but no, completely not worth it. Hell, I probably would have bought it with an A8 an NO Touch ID. Touch ID isn't all that. The A8 would have been more valuable to me. So, they wait for my money.

And what they are offering is crap. I leave it.

Not exactly, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 don't support in-store apple pay.

People tend to shop the expensive stuff online a lot more online these days than before, so the app-only arbitary limitation is still silly, but won't massively cut into their expected revenue from the fees, because lets face it:

Will you lug out the iPad, even Mini over your credit card? Even if the CC offers a less enjoyable experience as soon as you hold either in your hands?

This is so strange. It's basically what the Mini 2 should have been last year.

They release the 2 and the Air and they were feature synced.

Now, the Air 2 has rocketed ahead. I just don't get it.

I'm disappointed in Apple at the update but this is perfect for my wife. She has been rocking a 1st gen iPad (not mini), for a while now. She has wanted a mini for 6 months and we are happy to see the price of the iPad mini 2 drop. Only thing is they aren't keeping the 64gb option.

Thanks Apple!

Seriously, this is the most inconsequential update since iPad 3 to iPad 4. People scoffed at that update, but iPad 4 still had more changes than Mini 2 to 3.

no, we expect innovation
quality, bang for the buck.
this is laughing at us, fooling the non-shareholders.
