Aw man what a shame, I got really excited when they announced the ProMotion screen and then I found out there's no Plus variant this time around :(

I was really looking forward to not having to buy the Pro Max to get a bigger screen

Posted this in the "live" thread, but it's better here now that we have threads for each phone.

Base iPhone 17 in countries I'm interested in for price comparisons:

UK £799
Switzerland £740
Taiwan £730
Germany £822
US £590 without tax

Contrary to some reports, the iPhone 17 actually is a much better phone than I anticipated. It has REAL ProMotion with variable refresh rate from 120 to 10 Hz and the A19 SoC, both of which kind of surprised me.
I find it really hard to even see notable differences between the 17 and 16 Pro, if you disregard the additional telephoto lens of the 16 Pro. At a glance it is going to be a though decision to decide between 17 (launch price) and 16 Pro (at a discounted price), especially considering the 17 has double the base storage, a newer chip and overall newer camera technology too. Giving the 17 the ProMotion display has really narrowed the gap!

This might be the phone that brings med back to Apple after like 5 years with Android. My last iPhone was iPhone 8 Plus. 120 Hz is a must for all devices..

I'm impressed. The iPhone 17 really ticks almost all boxes for me:
  • 6.3 inch display ✓
  • Pro Motion / always on / brighter ✓
  • 256 GB base ✓
  • Higher precision GPS ✓
  • Nano SIM slot ✓
  • No camera button ✓ 😅
  • Satellite connectivity ✓
  • Black color ✓
Unfortunately only USB2, but I can live with that.

Hopefully there will be some good deals around Christmas. I'm not going to buy it for full price at Apple, that's for sure. The official EU price of 949 EUR is a borderline rip-off, considering the weak Dollar.
