Leaked iPhone 17 Green vs. actual iPhone 17 Green.

I knew the colours would be better than the ones that were rumored.

The base iPhone is the best of all of them. Really struggling to decide whether to get the 17 Pro or 17.
Base 17 all the way. And I've been a Pro guy since the first one they released.

I don't game on iPhone (A19 vs A19 Pro chip)
I don't transfer files (USB 2 vs USB 3 speeds)
The upgraded cameras on the base 17 are more than enough vs. Pro cameras
$300 cheaper than Pro

Base 17 should be the iPhone of choice this year for most people IMO.

Agreed. It's also 27 grams lighter and a little thinner than the Pro, which is a nice bonus.

The iPhone 17 is the clear winner: larger, brighter screen with Promotion, better cameras at ultrawide & front and 256 GB storage at base with no price increase vs price increases for the other models. Sadly, I think lots of people are just conditioned to only look at the Pro models, when this is the best value by far.

So true. I was thinking of getting the Air instead of the Pro (bc no black) until someone said the base 17 was the clear winner. And then I went and compared them on Apple’s website and was like wait…this is correct lol. Feels like the first time the base model is actually a legit iPhone since they split out into Pro/non-Pro models.

This year is a milestone year, just like with the 11 back in 2009, there's hardly an incentive to get the pro model (except for a marginally more powerful chip). There was a huge compromise and breakthrough with the storage, price and screen quality respectively.
The colors are a little underwhelming but they are beautiful and will age better. I still think the Green 16 was better, but I appreciate this year's blue (Mist) way better. The purple one is meh, déjà-vu.

If I was on the market for a new phone this year, this 17 is what I would get.

Oh and if I was a rich gurl, it'd be one of those snazzy blue 17 Pro models.

How fast is the USB transfer speed?
Exactly. They have to shaft consumers SOMEHOW. RAM too should be underwhelming.

The iPhone 11 in 2019 had the same chip as the 11 Pro, and a worse screen, the latter allowing for better battery life and performance, so the base 11 was a clear winner, at a 50$ reduction in price over the XR. No one's fighting over pixels on a 6.1 screen, and the even bigger 11 Pro Max had an even worse hit on performance.
I think they said something about the video quality being better on the 11 Pro, but in the end, who cares?

Same this year it seems, for now.

I need to upgrade my iphone 13, the screen is too small bothers my eyes and the battery life on it stinks..so I want to upgrade, just not sure what is the actual difference between the 17 and the 17 pro and which is better to go with..I have tmobile(Family plan with my brother in law) so will trade in my old phone to get the new one just not sure which one to get

Same display as the Pro phone, 256GB starting storage, N1 chip, Upgraded cameras and battery battery life.
This thing is pretty good value.

edit: also dual frequency GPS. that's fun.

Silly question but if the iphone 17 is exactly the same as the pro model how come its more money? Does the iphone 17 have the same battery life as the pro or is the pro better as far as battery..

It’s an amazing version of the regular phone - but Apple really wants you to buy the air or a pro.
The Air has some serious downsides though. Smaller battery. The worst camera setup of all new models. Apple modem, which could be less performant in some circumstances.

The reviews are going to be interesting for the air, that’s for sure!

It’ll be the brave/ most loyal / most keen to brag person who preorders the air.

I’m not damning the iPhone 17 with faint praise though. It’s a seriously fantastic version and by far the best Apple has made for that line.

Replacing the UW lens with a x2 telephoto is seriously great.

I'm also not sure how the lenses work on the base model. 2x photo instead of UW sounds really good. But who know what kind of technical tricks they used to achieve that. We'll have to wait for the thorough reviews to really know. Could be just marketing smoke and mirrors.

This may be “THE” phone from the entire keynote. I definitely think this is a worthy bump for consumers at the right price points. It will be the phone accessible to everyone and it checks all the right boxes for a worthy update. For once, I think Apple nailed it.

I think the 2x "lens" is actually a crop on the main wide lens' sensor. They are calling it an optical zoom the same way they called the 2x on the Pro models an optical zoom, when really it's just because they can do digital zoom on a high-res sensor and keep the resolution high enough.

The base iPhone 17 is a worthy upgrade and should sell well. This 2x camera boost should cover a variety of scenarios. For those who don't need more than that, the Pro version doesn't make any sense. In fact, it won't be suitable for many iPhone users, especially with 120Hz.
