i get what i edited out. i don't get why you can upgrade 7/15 and i can upgrade 12/15. i'd wait another month no problem.

Yeah, that's wrong. Some kind of goofy ATT thing for upgrades. I have the family plan and it's always changing the upgrade eligibility dates for everyone else's phones. But the 7/15 seems right to me.....I did buy one the first week but not the first day.

Getting tired of seeing this page... Comes into my e-mail every time I get the error message ordering online.

I've tried like 6... do you know if the number you put in has to be the primary number on the account or the one I am upgrading?

i used my primary home phone number as on my bills.. but also i'm getting a new mobile number, so i don't know if you have to use your current mobile

I switched from an HTC Tilt phone and bought the iPhone 3G on LAUNCH DAY last year and paid a price of $499 for the 16 GB verson with a 2 year contract. I believe that was only a $200 subsidy. Now they want $699 from me and i don't understand why some people with iPhone 3G can get it for $499. What did THEY do that gets them this phone for $499 that is different from me?

Tony

Highly disappointed in the technicalities involving AT&T.

I'm glad to see Nike+, disappointed in the lack of wireless n, and so extremely irritated that existing iPhone 3G customers can't upgrade to the 3GS for the contract prices. Plus, AT&T is slacking, as shown, on MMS and tethering. I'm frustrated with Apple for allowing all of these hitches with AT&T. It's bollox.

The upgrade to 3GS is not even CLOSE to being worth $599/$699 or the $417/$517 on 12/12/09.

So let me get this straight. I bought an iPhone 3g on day 1....and I can get the subsidized price for 3GS on 7/12 ?!!!???????

I show I can upgrade 7/15/09.....

One more time for you guys who just can't get it....2G was unsubsidized, even though we locked in to ATT for 2 years. 3G was subsidized, and ATT tore up our old 2 year committment for a new one.

Pricing for 3GS is exactly what I expected, given that the 3G was subsidized. And since the 3GS is no great leap, I can wait the extra month and save the $200. Or, just wait until next year.

I paid the unsubsidized price for the iPhone 3G and I am being offered the following prices:

$499.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
$599.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
$699.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

Based on your logic; mine wasn't susidized so why am I having to pay more?

yeah, looks like i will have to call. i will gladly pay $299 on 7/15, but not $499 or $699.

i'd rather pay for a Pre and an ETF than give AT&T the extra $200.

iPod Touch?

Where's the update to the ipod touch... all these new features in OS3.0 and the touch won't be able to take advantage 😕

BTW, at&t's website still widely and heavily advertising the iPhone 3g. Not even a whimper or a bit of text about 3gs. Way to stay with it.

Ouch. Looks like I have (quite) a while longer to use my current 3G. I may as well wait until next summer!

*sigh* At least I'll have 3.0 to enjoy mostly.

i cant believe the price is higher for current customers! this is ridiculous, i was going to get one, but i guess im waiting another year...

I think waiting another 12months is what MOST people are going to end up doing. I'm going to buy a new one and then sell my old one on eBay. But, I think MOST people are just going to wait the 12months.

guys...I NEED HELP BADLY...UNLIKEY ME...iphone will be realeased in egypt in august...totaly unbearable...i want a solution...i know a guy coming from canada can buy me one...will it work in egypt or i have to go to jailbreakin and so...i want to buy it unlocked from canada.coz i rea//y cant wait to august..is that possible?...if not any other options rather to wait to august!!plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp

Did i just dream it or did they say you have to double-tap the maps app to get it to rotate to the direction of the compass? WTF is that all about? That's really, really lame!

32gb, faster and has video recording... Should be enough to warrant an upgrade as long as O2 will give me a good deal... If not, i'll not loose any sleep over waiting another year... Which is odd as i was totally excited 24 hours ago, but somehow this keynote was a little bit of a letdown... I was more excited by the Snow Leopard stuff and the laptop announcements! LOL 😉

Wow, I can't believe all the complaining about the price of the upgrade. When you bought your 3G iphone last year, AT&T ponied up $400 for you to sign a new 2 year contract. That means that you agreed to keep your plan for 2 years. If you want to take advantage of the subsidy again, you have to sign a new 2 year contract. To do that, you would have to cancel your current plan, and pay whatever fees, then create a new account.

AT&T IS helping out loyal customers, but the deal is every 2 years. It is like that with any phone you buy from them, and they don't care about new stuff being released.

yeah but we are keeping the plan just getting the new phone. and they make us commit to a new 2 year contract any way while we pay the higher price

how did you swing this? I got my 3g on launch day and it shows that i will only be able to get one for $399 upgrade pricing (16gig). How did you get the $299 (32gb im assuming) pricing on a 3g upgrade?

It looks like we're in the midst of a huge pricing confusion debacle. Remember quickly now that it has not yet been 1 year since you bought the 3G.

To add insult to injury it seems the online ordering system can not differentiate between contract status across lines on a family plan. It seems to be confusing my terms for my iPhone line with my terms for my second line.

I'm so shocked that AT&T's billing system is a confusing mess </sarcasm>

I paid the unsubsidized price for the iPhone 3G and I am being offered the following prices:

$499.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
$599.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
$699.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

Based on your logic; mine wasn't susidized so why am I having to pay more?

Did you pay the unsubsidized but still had to sign for 2 years? or did you pay the unsubsidized because you are still using up a subsidized phone with ATT?

do people really call things they find stupid "gay" still? i graduated high school a while back and thought we left that back there. suppose there's always a new crop of high schoolers.

I have to say that I'm astounded at the number of people complaining over the pricing structure. What did you expect? It works this way with every other phone and every other provider.

Why do you need a new phone every year, anyway? I'm perplexed.

The iPhone prior to 3G was a special agreement b/w apple and att.. the phone was not subsidized so the owners of original iPhone who never upgraded are all eligible to upgrade to the new iPhone 3Gs (or 3G) for the discounted price.

The iPhone 3G on the other hand was like any other device (smart phone) on att. It was subsidized by att, so you will need to wait at least 16 months into your 24 month contract to be eligible to upgrade to 3Gs at the discounted price. However, I think att is allowing everyone to upgrade to new iPhones at a reduced discount. I believe the price is $200 more than the actual discounted price... so $299 for 8Gb 3G, $399 for 16Gb 3Gs and $499 for 32Gb 3Gs...

Hope this helps clear some of your doubts...

pal 🙂

Thank you for clearing that up for me. <3

the 3G, 8GB model, in Italy, free, no contract, pre-pay card, fully unlocked, was 499E

now this 3GS, the 16GB, how much will it be, same, pre-pay, fully unlocked?

Did i just dream it or did they say you have to double-tap the maps app to get it to rotate to the direction of the compass? WTF is that all about? That's really, really lame!

No, lame would be a map that spun randomly for every minute movement of your device.

A tracking mode like the current behavior for GPS might be nice, it might even be in there. You should know by now that not every single detail of behavior is iterated in these keynotes.

I don't know how the people before me are able to upgrade in July of this year. I stood in line for the iphone 3G and got it that day. I just went through apple's website and it's going to cost $500 for me. It also states "You may qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade on 03/12/2010." Please tell me how some people are getting different answers for the same question.

I talked to Apple and the csr said that free shipping is standard and it will get shipped on the 19th, not delivered on the 19th.

...so I asked about the pickup option and is the availability guaranteed and she wasn't sure about it, but said that there should be one waiting for me at the Apple Store if I preorder.

This is a complete BS. I would rather pay a little more and have it on the 19th, but it seems that no matter which option I pick, it will only get shipped on the 19th and not delivered... and now i don't know what to do.
