Apple Announces iPhone 3G S, Launching June 19th

Well, after hearing all the news I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed. I doubt there'll be any crazy lines at ATT on launch day. The product looks the same, and for now, they're not offering new contract pricing to existing users. The only "nice" useful feature I see over my 3G is the faster performance. Then again I'm not an iphone power user so I don't think that'll matter much.

Plus ATT is way off the ball with their MMS, 7.2MBPs 3G. This makes me want to sit out my remaining contract and hope a new carrier picks us the iPhone next year.
 
Okay someone needs to sticky this information so I can stop hearing all the 3G owners complain:

"[I was] On the phone with ATT and was told that the only way to get subsidized is waiting a full year from original purchase of the last iphone."

After 1 year of owning the 3G, you are eligible for the subsidized price. So, for those of us who bought the 3G on day 1, we just have to wait a little longer (a few weeks longer) to get the subsidized price.

For those who bought your 3G later than day 1, stop complaining -- your phone is less than a year old.

Hoping they'll sort this out and it'll arrive by June 19th.

Yes there was a higher price. I would have had to wait 3 months after the 3G came out to be eligible for the upgrade price.

I totally agree. Anyone would like to save some extra money and AT&T is fleecing its customers. No one likes this situation, but this is the situation we made for ourselves when we signed the friggin contract. They told us, black & white, that we would not be eligible for subsidized pricing for another 18 months. This has nothing to do with being an AT&T Fanboy. We signed the contract allowing them to do this. Period.

Point being, they should bridge us day-1 people 1 freakin month and not penalize us. I can go into apple store on 7/12 and get one at 299... but that is outrageous to make me wait an extra month just because I am a day 1 person.
 
AT&T REALLY Sucks now...

So, according to AT&T I have to pay $717.00 to upgrade??!. Way to reward those of us that stand in line and buy the new phones. Are you telling me the fair rack rate for this phone is $699? Hell, that is almost an Apple Laptop.

For the FIRST TIME ever, I will sit this one out - and, since I really can't have the top phone I may just have to switch to another carrier.

Ridiculous. Great job Apple, Crappy job AT&T.

Too bad YOU won't use the compass, but you're not thinking this through if you don't think devs will take advantage of this.

The camera will be worlds better. Or are you one of those people who think that cramming in more MP would make it better?

AT&T I'll give you. Not exactly a great performance by them today.

But overall, you've got an iphone with double the capacity, double the hardware speed, faster 3G, a higher quality camera, and video recording all for the price you were paying for a 3G this morning. The faster processor and more RAM alone will do *wonders* for the user experience. But like my sig says... some people will just never be happy.

No, no you're not. You're being obligated to fulfill the contract you signed when AT&T gave you a subsidy that allowed you to get your iphone 3G at the discounted price you got it for. It works this way with every phone on every carrier. Get over it.

So the 3Gs with 32GB and 18 month contract at £34.26 per month works out at a whopping £890.91!!! WTF 😱

Wow I can't believe absolutely everyone was wrong about the look of the new iPhone!

Does anyone know what sort of internal hardware changes were made (exact specs)? Or are we going to have to wait until launch day?

This is not necessarily true as I bought my 3G on launch day and I am not eligible for subsidized price until December.

I demand subsidized pricing! when the new iphone is released ill be at at&t buying 2 new iphones! i currently have 2 and will be buying a new one and upgrading another! ill be pay $90 a month in just data plans(i now pay $60)!!!! i want subsidized pricing!!!!!! im a loyal iphone customer!
 
Hey I duno if this has already been said yet, but I'm pretty sure the new thing about the headphones is that you can use the volume controls now 🙂

I bought my 3G on launch day last year... July 11th. But for some reason, both Apple's iPhone page and my AT&T Wireless page both say I am not eligible for upgrade pricing until April 2010.

Seriously, this is ****** up. 😡

We could sticky this, but who says it's reliable information? These CS reps don't know anything. Until we see this new policy in writing from the higher ups, it's not true.
 
So that was... underwhelming.

Thanks Apple, you pushed the boundaries forward now you're getting overtaken yourself. One might have thought you'd learned from past mistakes but transparently not.

this is what i don't get either.

Contract end date07/14/2010

but i'm not eligible to upgrade until 12/15/09 according to Apple's site.

Why are some people that got their 3G in july able to upgrade in July>?

I am looking at the "Introducing the next iPhone" email I got directly from Apple. It differs from what you said here.

"For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."

I don't mind paying $699 OR signing up for 2 more years, but not both!
