Just not that keen on losing a physical item here. Like when I took my iPhone for a new battery and it was easy to put my physical sim in an old phone whilst it was being done. Doubt it would be that easy with an esim.
Not sure what carrier you're on but you can swap the esim to another device online on some of them. Otherwise a call to support might be required. I'm all for more space for the battery though. And traveling with a 2nd esim slot has been a lot easier to add a plan before I even get to my destination rather than buying a physical sim there.

With the camera bump it is actually thicker than the iphone 4.
The iPhone 4 was a beautiful piece of hardware but not a realistic comparison. The camera and tech crammed into the bump alone is unreal compared to what we had 15 years ago.

After hemming and hawing last night, this morning I had my pre-order ready to go with a 17P in Cosmic Orange - but, I keep seeing videos of the Air and it is just so stunning. It really does gives some Steve Jobs era Apple vibes or at least iPhone X vibes (One of my two favorite iPhones alongside the 4). Now I am wavering and really thinking about switching it up and going with the Air. I have some serious FOMO right now.

USB 2.0 in 2025 and 5 mm if you do not measure the Pixel bar. And don't forget the magsafe battery for "all day battery life" than it's just 4 cm. Let's go Apple. Best iPhone ever. They discontinued the mini which was really something unique and made sense for a lot of people who didn't want big phones. That thing will be gone in 2 years.

Seeing more video hands on of this thing makes it look really appealing. If the battery can actually hold up to the 16P that would be an incredible feat. But when it comes down to it, the camera and mono speaker is certainly a downgrade/compromise. Personally I might be able to live with them coming from a 16P but the price tag certainly makes that a little harder to swallow considering how good of a value the 17 is in comparison.

I'm thinking of upgrading from a 15P to an Air. Looked at the spec for a 15P video playback and it 23 hrs local/20 streamed and I'm ok with this. The Air has 27 local/24 streaming and also has the benefit of the battery pack giving you about double this.

The amount of phone / tech you’re getting for the weight is very impressive. But weight is still the only spec I actually care about. So if I’m forced to upgrade my Mini at some point (like it becomes unsupported) sadly I’ll probably just get a boring “S” phone for half the price and the same weight.

Better is in the eye of the beholder. It is thinner and does have a somewhat better chip. It has a larger screen. It has the same ram. Your use case should drive which is best for you, not the people on here who decide it’s not for them and then proceed to try and convince everyone it’s not right for anyone. For me it fits my use case and I plan to purchase.
The air has 8GB or 12GB of RAM?

My concern is having to either lug around a 5,000 mAh power bank or attach the 3,149 mAh MagSafe battery to really get all-day performance in heavy use.
I plan on using the Air with the external battery at home so it stays topped off and then leave the battery when I go out.

I have seen some posts that the Air Dynamic Island is further away from the top of the phone than other model by a few pixels. This is probably because its components needed to fit in the plateau due to the thinness of the chassis. It kills a bit of screen real estate. Accordingly, the time and battery indicators get pushed down too. I wonder if the Dynamic Island being further off the size makes movie watching in landscape look a little weird. I can't unsee it now. Will it bother me in person? I can't tell. I will be going to the Apple Store on the 19th to check this one out before making my decision this year.

Apparently the battery is the same as the 16 Pro, so I don’t think many people need to carry around a MagSafe battery or power bank. At the end of the day, for heavy users the Pro Max is the way to go, while this one’s more of a stylish choice where you have to sacrifice a little something.

I really wish they were in stores ahead of preorder. That would make this decision so much easier. I know it's not quite the same, but I did break into the coin jar and fill plastic bags with the appropriate amount of nickels to equal 165 and 206ish grams. And alternated holding them and my 16PM in my hand. That The difference wasn't big between the 16PM and the 17 Pro's equivalent in nickels, but that Air's equivalent sure was nice.

To each his own, but despite being on the iPhone Pro upgrade program since it started, I find this phone to be so ugly that I would be embarrassed to carry it. Cheap aluminum? No thank you. Will be keeping the 16Pro.

Whats the point of this device?
The specs are worse than standard iP17 at a higher cost.
The AIR is only thinner (in some areas), but not smaller. Therefore it is still not usable single handed or for people with smaller hands. It will be same uncomfortable grip like iP17.
Why does this exist? It makes no sense to me.

An iPhone mini makes sense for smaller hands (children, smaller female hands, ...), but this was discontinued having customer value being smaller. AIR makes zero sense to me.
