Jesus....this is a deal??? What do you guys do for money? How much time do you spend on the phone??

I'm just fine with my T-mobile prepaid phone...$100 every 6 months or so. iPhone is iHype and iMoney. And of course the 'i' is question in Jobs. And I like Apple and Jobs. But enough is enough! Just give my my xMac, Steve.

Maybe you need to get a better job or a few more friends/family to call.

$200 a year on a mobile bill is far from the norm

I already have a Cingular Gophone SIM card. Will I be able to use this SIM card on the iPhone?

New iPods

Okay we have the iPhone pricing now so the fanboys can stop biting their nails and wondering if they should sell a kidney to pay for it. It is still more expensive than Sprint but it does offer rollover minutes I guess.

My big question is once this BS fanboy hysteria dies down will we be seeing some more rumors about the iPod that is almost 2 years behind schedule for an update, updated iMacs and MacMinis, and upgraded .Mac which is as of now a waste of $100? Can Apple please get back to real business and continue making the things that it is actually good at and making great strides in marketshare?

My guess, after the 29th, Apple will focus on new video iPods. I'll bet you see them July and I wouldn't be surprised if a simultaneous release of a new version of iTunes with movie rentals will be released too.

After that, iMac updates in August or September. Again, I'm guessing that the iMac delays (and new displays) will feature the same touch screen technology in the iPhones and the delay is so they will be closer to the release date of Leopard. I'd almost bet money on it if I were a betting man.
Historically, Apple has offered the next version of the OS for free (or a $20 shipping and handling fee) within one month of OSX ship dates.

But, iPods next (basically an iPhone with no phone and larger storage)!

Why so much storage? I thought the max is only 8GB?

To describe the collective reaction here to the pricing plans as "they're awesome!" is to read through the posts in this thread wearing rose colored glasses. It's far more accurate to describe the reaction as a collective sigh of relief - relief that Apple/AT&T chose not to charge the way everyone expected. What did everyone expect? The usual Apple premium.

These plans are nothing more than "ok" or perhaps even "pretty good" - but if they were not tied to the iPhone then most people would (justifiably) point out the way better comparable plans from other carriers (e.g. TMo). And yes, including data, nights and weekends, texts, etc.

With these plans, what Apple/AT&T have done is removed a reason *not* to get an iPhone. They haven't created a compelling reason *to* get an iPhone. Not with these plans alone.

i disagree... if you look, its only $15 a month for unlimited data because the package includes 200 sms (which is $5 a month normally)... i cant find anyone else who offers a better deal than unlimited data for $15 a month... plus, that unlimited data will be used is many different ways that isnt avaliable on other phones (visual voicemail, g-maps, safari, etc.)
i think they are really good, not the best thing sinced sliced bread, but i would consider the plans amazing for me

I think the pricing is great. I was so worried that AT&T would set the voice/data price so high that I wouldn't be able to expense it to work. This comes in line with what we pay for other people's Blackberry service, so I should be golden. The 900 minute plan increased to 1500 SMS per month will meet my needs well. The pricing is excellent. I may even begin with the 450 plan and see how it goes. I can always increase if I need to.

I was really on the fence... but now I'm going to buy this Friday.

honestly... all this iPhone hype has made me less interested in Apple/MacRumors... i fear that even after it's released there will continue to be LAME posts on this site like "John Dropped His iPhone and it Didn't Break!" or "Mary Uses her iPhone as a Dildo and She is Very Satisfied", followed by award-winning threads of comments like "ugh, mary is FAT. loose some weight if you want to use the iPhone!"

i have a question.

i am on family plan with my parents for verizon. so if i want use the same number for the new iphone, i have to cancel my line with my parents family plan? which that will cost a cancellation fee right?

Depends on whether you are still in contract, these are usually 1 or 2 years long. The phone companies will renew the contract whenever you change your plan so your family may have extended your contract without realizing it. Call Verizon and see when the contract expires. If the contract has already expired (you can't tell, you get the same service and bills every month even after the contract is over) then you can cancel your own line and transfer your number over without charge.

If the contract is still in force, you will pay something like $150-$200 to cancel your line (true for each line on the contract). There may be a pro-rated fee if there are only a few months to go, I'm not sure about that. AFAIK there is no fee for transferring your number to the new account.

THE INTERNET MAKES ME ANGRY

Just watched the iPhone sync video, anyone else notice that 3/4's of the way through the video, after the iPhone is synced, "John's iPhone" on the bottom storage bar in iTunes has, "Capacity 74.40GB - Audio 25.64GB - Video 13.09GB - Other 12.55GB - Free Space 23.12GB"?!?!?!

It would appear that either the iPhone tutorial has been doctored, or "John's iPhone" is an 80GB iPhone.QUOTE]

THAT'S THE BIG SUPRISE FOR FRIDAY. NOT 4 and 8 GB BUT 40 and 80 GB!

Unlimited data? I like the sound of that. haven't really looked into UK contract prices, but it's something I would have to get with an iPhone and all that internet business.

It's hard to compare with vat and all that but that 450 minutes one blows my 02 contract away here int he UK

lol, I still don't have $500.

And do they mention if I can swap my current ATT phone #/plan to the iphone?

Existing Cingular/ATandT Customers:

All you do is Add 20 Bucks to your VOICE Plan to get Iphone Unlimited Data and get 200 Text Free.

take the damn iPhone out of the equation for a minute. You're getting ripped off by AT&T, who cares what phone you have. It's not right, and it's extortion.

Then again, you all are so willing to hand over more money than you should for the service you're getting, maybe it's not extortion, but consumer stupidity

You my friend are a jealous little troll. Or at least acting like one.

Who cares if you think its overpriced? If the market will bear it and people will pay it because they find it acceptable, it is not.

Question....

I am happy.

I would be using iChat instead of texting anyways. I was expecting the lowest plan to be $79.99

Does the iPhone have iChat built in? Is it free? Can you explain. Thanks! Sorry if this is a ridiculous question. Just trying to learn more about this awesome phone.
