Good catch

Why so much storage? I thought the max is only 8GB?

That happens about 6:19 into the movie. Add it all up and it's about 80GB (74.40GB according to slide).

Obviously not the storage capacity of an iPhone so...has to be a video iPod. Question is, which Video iPod?

Notice the tabs have been rearranged across the top of the Devices screen is different from the current version of iTunes.

EDIT "In addition, any standard AT&T service plan may be chosen."

I missed that part. That would make it more tolerable. If it wasn't for the fact that its Crapular.

$60 for 450 minutes? Ummm that is asinine. Sure this is great if all you are doing is data. For the people who actually talk on their phones....these plans are teh suck.

PS- They also just cut off everyone who wants to get the iPhone and not spend a butt load on a plan. Again the iPhone is sitting in a very small market segment. I expect sales to go through the roof initially, and then tank as mom and dad tell little johnny that he can't have an iPhone for x-mas because of the prices.

Does the iPhone have iChat built in? Is it free? Can you explain. Thanks! Sorry if this is a ridiculous question. Just trying to learn more about this awesome phone.

did you know that there is a really cool search engine called google?

no. no ichat.

Nowhere in the video does it explain how an existing customer, with family plan, whose contract has expired, could choose a new phone plan with iPhone.

i am in the EXACT same boat.

i have a feeling it is easier than we are fearing, so we'll just be able to pick Existing Customer, then enter our current phone number and/or account number, and it will transfer whichever phone number you specify on that account to the new iPhone, leaving the rest of the rate plan and other phone's plan/contract untouched.

what i have on my second line is a BlackJack, which still has another 17 months on contract, but the line i want to upgrade has no contract on it right now so i don't imagine this being a problem at all.

my only 2 other concerns:

does the name on the iTunes account have to match the AT&T account? if so, that's a problem, and pretty unreasonable since many Family plans are under random family members' names.

since we can keep our current accounts, with no caveats specified, is it possible to keep employee discounts that are already on an account?? earlier rumors said this would not be possible, but so many rumors have been wrong lately that i'm not confident that that is the truth. the AT&T rep i just talked to had not had training on this yet, he said to call back tomorrow once more people find out what is going on. i'd give up the 12% discount if i had to, but that is a big chunk of change after a 2 year contract...

So, any whiners still out there to complain?

Apple has THE BEST PHONE in the industry, with THE BEST price plans for its device...simply AWESOME.

Apple hits another home run, and it's gonna dominate the cellphone industry in no time...

Maybe you should wait until people actually have these in their hands before getting all worked up.

OUTSTANDING!!! I'm getting one for sure now. Thank you apple and at&t for setting a VERY reasonable minimum plan!!

$60 for 450 minutes? Ummm that is asinine. Sure this is great if all you are doing is data. For the people who actually talk on their phones....these plans are teh suck.

No, not really. I pay $40 for 450 minute on verizon as of now (and at&t is the same). So that's $20 more for unlimited data. Damn good.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see needing that many minutes. Not when you add in in-network calling, nights, and weekends. Those 3 things make up the vast majority of my phone usage, so I actually come in well under the 450 minutes/month.

To describe the collective reaction here to the pricing plans as "they're awesome!" is to read through the posts in this thread wearing rose colored glasses. It's far more accurate to describe the reaction as a collective sigh of relief - relief that Apple/AT&T chose not to charge the way everyone expected. What did everyone expect? The usual Apple premium.

These plans are nothing more than "ok" or perhaps even "pretty good" - but if they were not tied to the iPhone then most people would (justifiably) point out the way better comparable plans from other carriers (e.g. TMo). And yes, including data, nights and weekends, texts, etc.

With these plans, what Apple/AT&T have done is removed a reason *not* to get an iPhone. They haven't created a compelling reason *to* get an iPhone. Not with these plans alone.

TM

Well put statement amidst the yelling and the trolling.

What makes this great news is that the data plan is essentially $20 for the iPhone. I think i have the exact same minutes plan on my current phone (plus a measley 1mb of data) for $39.95 on AT&T. When rumors were circulating between $30 and $40, it definitely adds some relief (and I wouldn't be suprised if this was a marketing strategy all along).

People have forgotten the cost of the phone...

It's still really expensive for the phone itself, never mind the OK priced plans!

Fifteen Bucks?!

Regularly, AT&T 450 min. plans are $40 and 200 text messages are another $5. That means they're doing unlimited data for FIFTEEN BUCKS A MONTH?!

That's crazy - it's also within the price range of way more people than I think anybody expected.

This thing is going to be beyond huge - I wish I had an excuse to get one.

i am probalby a convert

i was pretty critical in my posts about the iphone/att since i knew from past experience that att is not your out-of-the-box thinking company. i would have bet that the cheapest voice/data plan was going to be around 100. well, i have underestimated the persuasion talent of old stevie....

now i face a dilemma. i have a sprint family plan with 3 phones, one of which, mine (6700 pda) has the data plan at 15/month. all phones are only 1 year into their contract. whats the best way to cut down on sprint if i get an iphone with att? cancel one and pay the fine? any ideas>?>?

thnx

No, you've got it all wrong. Aren't you listening to morons like SiliconAddict? These plans are "teh suck".

I'm just fine with my T-mobile prepaid phone...$100 every 6 months or so. iPhone is iHype and iMoney.

And with that do you get unlimited internet access? Do you even have any idea what the features of the iPhone are? Let me guess, you got a calculator for $5 so anyone who buys a computer is getting ripped off and buying into hype? Idiot.

These plans are revolting! I don't want any data/voicemail AT ALL bollocks to that much money!

If you don't want data, why would you even consider an iPhone? That's the whole point of the phone.

Does anyone else think this is really expensive? I have a phone with Alltel and I get 700 minutes, unlimited long distance, unlimited nights and weekends, and 300 SMS messages for $39.99 a month.

And what would it cost you to add unlimited email/internet? Looks like you missed the unlimited data part.

Alltel & ATT

I was willing to pay a little more to use the iPhone, and really expected to do just that. Just called Alltel, my current cell phone provider, and found out that the family plans on the iPhone are all cheaper and allow me to do more than the current plan I am on. I will be paying $30 less a month, and will get a lot of extras, like rollover minutes, that I currently did not have. I don't text message, but now I get 200 for free. Might try it out. I pay $7 per line ($14) for free nights and weekends. Alltel has 300 text messages for $6 and unlimited for $20, a month per line.

BETTER PHONE.
BETTER PLAN.

My current contract with Alltel ends June 28th. A coincidence? I think not. Hello iPhone.

Just for comparison

T-Mobile. 1,500minutes, unlimited data, 400 SMS: $65.00
Sprint. 450 minutes, unlimited data (3G), 300 SMS: $59.00 (slightly less of a ripoff due to 3G)
Verizon: Not even going to bother since they're probably twice as much as everyone else

Looking at T-Mobile and Sprint's pricing, it's safe to say this is a ripoff.

Ha! And I was going to ask if the announced plans save or cost more then what you are spending now with TMobile.

Guess that answers that.

As for Ripoff.. with these new plans I am SAVING 10$ a month by leaving TMobile (and getting an iPhone)!

fyi, read one of my recent posts here. the information he gave you is wrong.

You may be correct that Verizon would charge you to cancel 1 of 3 shared lines. Yet another reason to switch to AT&T.

I canceled the second of two lines on my plan two months ago. No fee, no hassle.

When you sign up, you have one contract (not three) and then have one additional line added.

Maybe you agree with AT&T a little more than you care to admit...

AT&T and Apple Announce Simple, Affordable Service Plans for iPhone

ATLANTA and CUPERTINO, Calif., June 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. and Apple® today announced three simple, affordable service plans for iPhone(TM)... In addition, iPhone customers can choose from any of AT&T's standard service plans... iPhone customers will enjoy the best voice and data network in the nation."

"We think these three plans give customers the flexibility to experience all of iPhone's revolutionary features at affordable and competitive prices."

I wish they'd put the article in front and refer to it as the iPhone. Just referring to it as "iPhone" reminds me of Happy Fun Ball.

"Warning: Do not taunt iPhone." :p

For example, I pay $50 per month for 600 minutes + unlimited evenings and weekends and unlimited data (using t-mobile t-zones). I have a Nokia 6680....

I've used a 6682, and you and I both know there is no comparison between it and iPhone. It does the same stuff, but it is nowhere near as elegant. When it was a new phone, it probably cost the same as the iPhone because you had to buy it unlocked - I don't recall T-Mo ever offering the 6680 series, mine was an unlocked former Cingular phone.

Also, the T-Zones data service is pretty crippled. You should consider yourself lucky that you can get any of the IM programs to function with it. In my area, that doesn't work. For real data service, you'd need to upgrade from $5/mo T-Zones to $20/month internet, which would make your service $65/month.

The iPhone in comparison costs $59/month for less minutes and no unlimited evenings or weekends (although it does have unlimited calls to other AT&T users which is great if you know people on AT&T and useless if not). It also has rollover which mine does not. But the phone itself is about 100 times cooler so I guess that extra $9 is worth it for that.

You get 5,000 night/weekend minutes. During July, you can talk for 2 hours every weeknight and 4.5 hours each weekend day with that. That's as close to unlimited as most people need.

Cell phone plans are very personal, and everyone has different needs. But it's hard for me to imagine the kind of person who really is wowed by the technology of the iPhone who doesn't think of its plan as a bargain. Most of us will have had a far inferior mobile phone / internet experience for which we paid far more at some time in the past. The 200 SMS is a nice bonus - I rarely text now, but I will when I get an iPhone.

this may have been asked and answered, but…

I have 11 months on my current contract with AT&T…if I buy the iPhone on Friday, do I get 2 years from that date? or 2 years from the expiration of my current AT&T contract?

Shoot

Now I really want an iPhone. I'm already an Cingular/ATT customer, and my plan currently is 450 with unlimited text messaging (I text more than I call lol) for 60 before taxes. These plans are actually better. However, I don't even want to go NEAR an Apple store in NYC, it will be a madhouse. I'm sure they will sell out and have a wait list or something, so looks like I'll just hold off until iPhone 2.0 comes out (and has 3G and maybe video conferencing?).

WAIT!!!

So the INCLUDED free mobile-mobile means that any call I make to another Cingular customer, and it won't dock my minutes at all?!

Please, can someone confirm I'm interpreting this correctly.

If so, this is great news. I'm moving away from my girlfriend for college in the fall, and I planned on getting a 2000+ minutes a month for her. But, she's getting an iPhone on Friday, too. It'd be great if we can call each other for free!
