Sweet, much better than what I thought, I will definitely be getting 2 on Friday :)

Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod

Interesting, I wonder if iPhone will operate even as iPod without SIM card?

A steal for existing customers who don't text much.

The big question is can the iPhone be used as a cellular modem, tethered to your Mac via USB or Bluetooth?

AT&T is upgrading their cell towers - some have claimed 25-30KB on the newest version of EDGE.

That would work fine on a laptop for web access.

I may be the only person in America that doesn't own a cellphone. Can't stand the things. I can't go to a movie theater or a restaurant without someone loudly yapping away on the thing. I used to have one for work when I was on call. After I changed jobs, I swore that I would never own another phone again.

Damn you Apple. Looks like an iPhone is in my future.

Wow, with a testimonial like that how could iPhone not be a success?

Corporate Accounts & iPhone Activation

I've asked this question on another forum, but this may be more clearly answered now that the rate plans have been divulged.

Ok, so I know that people are saying that you can't order the iPhone through the corporate B2B channels (i.e. CRU's), for now...

But, let's say I were to purchase the iPhone myself, say on my Corporate card.

Then, when I go to activate the iPhone, I put in my phone number, account number, etc. and then activate the "iPhone Data Plan". Would it not just 'work' ?

Any other corporate account holders have this issue & wondering how they can get their mitts on the iPhone as well?

I'm pretty sure Cingular doesn't do plan discounts, just equipment discounts.

Ah, gotcha. thanks. Our contract is going to be up this fall and I'm sure by July Sprint will start sending me postcards with plan discounts, such as "Renew your Sprint contract and save $$$$ for the next two years, as our of thank you for your loyalty" or something like that. On our last renewal, almost two years ago, they took 5% + $5 for something else I can't remember, off our bill every month. It add it up to one of our unlimited data plans being free... that was cool.:)

what about if i dont want to use those iPhone plans? I noticed that it said you could use other at&t's service plans. i didnt see a button for that in the activation movie. any thoughts??

I don't have one either. My family has one on a pay as you go thing since we don't use it too much. I wish the iPhone had a pay as you go plan. My family's cell phone is where you have to put in an additional $20 every 3 months or when you run out of minutes, whichever comes first. Right now, we have something like $40.06 on it. That's how little we use it.

I just spoke with a AT&T rep. I have a 450 minute family plan with 2 phones and no data package. I intend to upgrade one of the phones in the family plan to the iPhone. She indicated that I will just have to add the data package minimum of $20 to my current plan and have a new 24 month contract. So instead of $55 a month for the two phones without data, it will now be $75 with the minimum data package. That is a pretty fair shake for existing customers...

If there were 2 iphones on the account, would it be $20 for each phone for the data?

Yes, I'm wondering the same thing. I would much rather activate the iPhone on my work account than make a new personal account.

I hope we get a better deal in europe when it finally launches here, this is way too expensive.

/pays 16 euro's per month for 150 minutes and unlimited data.
// doesn't actually call 150 minutes
/// or use text messages.

I pay £15 ($30 but included 17.5% VAT = ~$26) a month (after renewal discount) for 500 minutes and 100 texts, and a free phone (albeit a V3x) on a 12 month contract. No roll-over minutes, but I never get anywhere near that level, but I have exceeded

$60 a month would translate to £30, + VAT + hike = £40 a month. That's a pretty damn hefty surcharge for an extra 100 texts and unlimited data.

... until I see the prices for data plans with my provider ... Data (384kbps) is £15 more per month for only 56MB, or £45 for 512MB - here's hoping the iPhone restructures these high fees significantly, or at least includes unlimited data for ~£20.

Nothing in that plan about roaming or international... I can only assume it will conform to other AT&T plans. Looks like $.20/minute to Canada. That sucks. Is there any standard way around that? What if the person I was calling were also on an iPhone? (Or would she then have to pay roaming charges?)

Roaming?

I haven't shopped for a phone in a while, but haven't seen this discussed. Will the iPhone plans include no-charge roaming? I'm not expecting data to work off-network, but more thinking of off-network voice. I'm currently on Sprint, and do roam occasionally without surcharges.

WOW this really is great. I pay $65 now with AT&T just for 900 voice minutes and no data, so this is only $16 more for 900 min. and Data!

I am really surprised and excited. I was starting to get worried that Apple and AT&T were getting greedy after seeing all the hype they had created.

Get pre-approved for iPhone

I'm very excited about these voice/data combo plans. I'll probably tack on unlimited texting since I'm a big SMS texter. For those of you who want to get pre-approved for the iPhone (or you're worried about your credit), take the following steps:

1. Call AT&T at 1-888-333-6651.
2. Choose option 3 for new service, and then 3 again.
3. Tell them you're interested in buying the iPhone and want to get pre-approved. They'll ask for your SSN, ID, address, etc. They'll run a credit check and let you know if you're approved or not.
4. Be sure to ask for a BAN number before you hang up. This BAN number is good for 30 days.
5. After buying your iPhone on Friday, enter the BAN number in the "pre-approved credit check code" field during activation.

See screen shot below:

Just one less thing to worry about. :)

No roaming charges in the mainland.

I pay $40 for a free k800i

That *is* a big part of the equation -- the cost of the phone. With other plans, the phone is often thrown in for free. Naturally, it's usually marginally above a piece of crap. But the physical iPhone will set you back at least $500. Over the two year plan, that will essentially add about $20 to your monthly costs. Then there's the question of what will happen after two years. Since iPhone is an AT&T exclusive for 5 years, the physical phone will be useless unless you renew your AT&T contract. And anything could happen with the monthly costs over the next couple of years. (Hopefully, the cost will go down as imitators start to appear.)

So far I've seen no mention by Apple or AT&T of a pay-as-you-go plan, something that was mentioned a while back as a possibility. That option would be quite appealing to me since I don't really need the phone function, but the data function would be handy.

Corp/Gov't discounts?

Plans look good. The $60/mo plan is perfect for my needs.

I was in my AT&T store about two weeks ago, before they had any info on the iPhone. For their other plans I'd qualify for a 15% gov't discount off any monthly service plan (government employee purchasing myself).

I know there have been "no corporate discount" rumors, but haven't seen anything official. Has anyone called their AT&T reps to ask? I may have to drive up to the store and ask, I suppose.

The question for me if this is temporary or permanent. I'd like an iPhone on day one. If I can get the discount applied in a month, that's fine. But 15% off the two years is $216, and that's real money.

29.99 family plan

Normally adding a line is 9.99. The iPhone unlimited data plan with 200 messages adds $20 to any existing plan.
Thus, to add a line and the data plan = the 29.99 iPhone add a line.

As for the plan prices, they are very competitive if you compare voice and data plans.

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/Default.aspx?plancategory=7
Blackberry plan with 1000 minutes (total, no N&W, no M2M, no rollover), unlimited data/messaging - $59.99. ($69.99 if using BB enterprise server) and no wifi.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/easysetup/rateplans.html
iPhone plan with 900 "peak" minutes, plus unlimted M2M, unlimited N&W, and rollover, unlimited Data/Web, 200 messages and wifi whenever you want - $79.99

900+14400 (N&W)+ oh, how about 5000 (M2M) = over 20000 minutes for $79.00. Or roughly 4/100ths of a cent per minute. Compared to t-mobiles 6 cents/minute. Now which one is a better deal?

Now, if you use your phone at night or on the weekends for half of your minutes, you could go with the $59.99 iPhone plan instead, still have wifi and unlimited M2M, 5000 N&W (which is about 8-10 hours per day for every saturday and sunday), and unlimited wifi.

I call BS on "teh suck"
