i pay $60 for tmobile with 600 minutes + unlimited data for my blackberry. these are reasonably close - good job, apple + att.
I'm on the same plan, and am impressed with where Apple and AT&T came in with their plans as well. By the time iPhone rev 2 hits the streets I'll probably be ready to jump ship ;)

You should give being perfect and respectful person in THIS life a try... even if you come up short sometimes, you will still be a better person.

Life is too much fun to try to be perfect. I do not drink, smoke, have a good job and a great relationship. My only sin is to have a table PC and downloading songs from eMule! I AM BAD :D

What I wouldn't give for those rates here, now.

I already pay more than that for voice & SMS alone. To get unlimited data, unlimited mobile-to-mobile (virtually all of my calls are) and 200 txts (just a little more than I send most months) for even 60 euros a month would be great.

Yipes. I feel like two cents. I read and re-read my post and can't quite figure out where you're getting the negative vibes from. I'll just assume you were referring to all the other hate mail floating around the forums these days.

no negative vibes..sorry if i came across rather rudely. i just wanted to clarify why they were using "iPhone" rather than "the iPhone".

the rest of my 2 cents..was mainly directed at all the haters out there..they get to me. ignorant fools.

apologies for any misunderstandings.

Just caught this, i am sure someone have mentioned here already.... somewhere back in the lost messages.

On http://www.apple.com/iphone/easysetup/rateplans.html for current AT&T users:
"Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod; plans are subject to AT&T credit approval."

does that mean I can just use the iphone with my current plan WITHOUT getting the web/email iphone data plan and NOT having the ipod feature to work....? totally confused with this one

I read that on Appleinsider. If you need to activate to even use it just as an iPod, that cr**! WTF? They're not just nickel and diming us, they're quartering us!

Quartering? Ouch! I remember the pictures from my history book and that looks painfull! :D

Family Plan

Anyone else notice that, according to the footnote, the iPhone family plans only come with 1 phone line? That means that the $80 family plan is actually $109 when you use it with a family of 2.

CNBC Idiots are at it again!

Chock it up to CNBC to come out with a hatchet job on the iPhone just 3 days before launch.

Their latest "report" has one "longtime Mac user" wondering if her uses his MP3 player (hey longtime Mac user, it's called an iPod player) during his flight, whether or not he will be able to make a call after the flight.

Gee how long of a flight is this idiot on? Music playback battery life? Up to 24hrs. Longest airline flight 12 hours, LA to Sydney??? The real question is: Can this guy dress himself in the morning, or does someone else do that for him."

CNBC also said the the iPhone would be a tough sell because the monthly plan "Would be over $100". Plans out today are all UNDER $100.

CNBC seems to spreading more lies than facts lately. Someone should shut them down.

Buying an iPhone

These prices are amazing.

On cingular now, I pay $99 for 450 minutes with unlimited data.

I am buying an iPhone.

I have not.

Then again I don't go around stealing things... and respect intellectual property...

Again. It isn't stealing.

And "intellectual property" as you may have noticed is a concept whose extension is in dispute between those who claim to "own" it and those who want to "use" it.

If people hadn't been downloading music for free, then it would be highly unlikely that music companies would finally be waking up to the fact that they aren't providing a good enough service and that their fascist lockdown policies are harming their own industry.

Strangely enough, although their intentions are selfish, the file sharers are doing everyone a service by forcing content companies to offer better terms. And it is working. I have 500 iTunes tracks on my mac, and the iTunes Store in New Zealand hasn't been open for more than a few months. I have no interest in illegally downloading music any more because it is hard work and takes too much time to find stuff. When you can pay $1US a song for an instant perfect download it's just not worth the effort.

That totally sucks. I would actually have to pay 20$ for just the data plan on my current plan. Wasn't too big on the 200 messages though. Perhaps, AIM/MSN/YAhOO chat will be on ajax or something soon, then i can say goodbye to text messages.

An extra $29 to add another iPhone. I assume if the rest of your family just wants regular phones its the standard $9.99 for an extra line. Hopefully.

The data plan pricing is very reasonable. I'm on Verizon through work and work pays $80.00 for 1200 minutes normal air time, unlimited nights and weekend (even with being on call and getting called I have never gone over 5000 in a month), free long distance and all the other normal jazz. I pay an additional $6 per month for 300 text messages (and extra $12 would get unlimited I think). No data plan but for only an extra $20 per month I think it is unlimited data.

With the rollover minutes that 900/month comes real close to my current 1200. Before this, I thought an iPhone wouldn't be for me. If the email works as well as it appears in the video, I could switch and actually save money per month. Granted, the phone would cost more but being able to access email and web would have an honest business cost benefit. The only reason I haven't switched to a blackberry is the cost of the data plans.

I wish someone would shut them down AND Faux News. American News is a joke, more about ratings than truth. Ever since having two sides to every story was mandated by law in journalism, broadcasting has become a joke.

Well then, I hope someone steals your job and/or relationship. Then you might know what it's like to have someone steal your hard work.
Oh, and I hope that whomever does, laughs about it and tells you they don't feel bad about it.

Again. It isn't stealing.

Whatever you need to say to get yourself thru the day.....Whatever you need to say....

Do these contracts include the iPhone with them, or do you have to buy the iPod onto of the 2 year contract?

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious, just a little confused.

Question for existing at&t customers: Does at&t give loyalty discounts for subsequent contract renewals? Just wondering, b/c Sprint has given some cool discounts since we've been with them for over 11 years... about 6 contract renewals. We tend to be pretty loyal. If it wasn't for the iPhone we wouldn't switch. thanks.:)

I just spoke with a AT&T rep. I have a 450 minute family plan with 2 phones and no data package. I intend to upgrade one of the phones in the family plan to the iPhone. She indicated that I will just have to add the data package minimum of $20 to my current plan and have a new 24 month contract. So instead of $55 a month for the two phones without data, it will now be $75 with the minimum data package. That is a pretty fair shake for existing customers...

First you buy the iPhone.
Then when you activate it and the 2 years starts then...

(someone posted earlier that they had called ATT and that the 2 year thing basically resets when you activate the iphone it seems.)
