I'm sure that's right, but still, I think $80 is a bit deceiving when all other ATT family plans come with 2 lines for their stated price.

wow, i think i'm getting ripped off. my wife got her cell phone, then i finally got around to getting one and we upgraded to a family plan, but i'm getting charged $9.99 a month anyway.

Well then, I hope someone steals your job and/or relationship. Then you might know what it's like to have someone steal your hard work.
Oh, and I hope that whomever does, laughs about it and tells you they don't feel bad about it.

I am not going 2 be able 2 sleep today  WAAAAAAA!!!

I just spoke with a AT&T rep. I have a 450 minute family plan with 2 phones and no data package. I intend to upgrade one of the phones in the family plan to the iPhone. She indicated that I will just have to add the data package minimum of $20 to my current plan and have a new 24 month contract. So instead of $55 a month for the two phones without data, it will now be $75 with the minimum data package. That is a pretty fair shake for existing customers...

come to think of it yah it is hehe, damn hope those aren't too long of a line up.

Do these contracts include the iPhone with them, or do you have to buy the iPod onto of the 2 year contract?

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious, just a little confused.

You have to buy the $500/$600 phone and you are locked into a 2-year contract of $60+ a month.

Question for existing at&t customers: Does at&t give loyalty discounts for subsequent contract renewals? Just wondering, b/c Sprint has given some cool discounts since we've been with them for over 11 years... about 6 contract renewals. We tend to be pretty loyal. If it wasn't for the iPhone we wouldn't switch. thanks.:)

No discounts on the iPhone...loyalty or any other kind per AT&T.

First you buy the iPhone.
Then when you activate it and the 2 years starts then...

(someone posted earlier that they had called ATT and that the 2 year thing basically resets when you activate the iphone it seems.)
So I can walk into the AT&T store today, sign up for a free phone (say Nokia 6126), sell it on Ebay for $150 (the going rate) and replace it with an iPhone on Friday?

I thought there was a certain amount of time that had to pass before you could sign a new 2 year contract with AT&T?

Anyone else notice that, according to the footnote, the iPhone family plans only come with 1 phone line? That means that the $80 family plan is actually $109 when you use it with a family of 2.

That's what I asked before in an earlier post... I'm in the same boat. Why do they say one phone line included when they're talking about family plans? You know it's gonna be more than one phone, WTH put that important note as foot note??!!!

Presumably the reason they do this is because the amount they charge for the 2nd line is now variable, $9.99 for a "normal" phone and $29 for an iPhone. This is my guess anyway.

In case many of you are unaware I figured I'd post this. A lot of companies have negotiated discounts for their employees with cell phone services. Check and see if this applies to you. Sometimes this can be a significant savings.

Had not thought of that. It seems like the deal. Since the plans are out you should ring ATT but you may have just found a way to get a "rebate" on the iphone.

Since I am out of contract maybe I should switch to ATT now and get some free backup phone before friday? (but the plans i guess would be the sticking point...would have to wait till friday for the iPlans.)

The iPhone is to my knowledge the first time they allow this. This is not normally allowed. I guess they didn't want to piss off millions of customers like me that are not upgrade eligible :D (I've had it since April 06).

If you have 2 lines, I'm assuming that both lines will have a new 24 month contract even if you add the iPhone plan to one of them, since the first two lines are billed together.

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to get the iPhone plan on a third $10 line without having to affect contract of the first two phones in the family plan.

OK, I believe you can get 1,000 minutes for the same price with free N&W, still twice as many minutes as AT&T

But, once you figure in rollover (which works for some people's calling habits but not everyones) and free mobile-to-mobile it probably works out the same for most people. BTW, I'm not even sure if I have free mobile-to-mobile with my T-Mo account. If I do, it doesn't seem to matter — you are the only other T-Mo customer I know in the US, but more than half my friends are on AT&T.

.. with these new plans I am SAVING 10$ a month by leaving TMobile (and getting an iPhone)!

I'm in the same boat. It's time for me to upgrade my phone in the new few months, and T-Mo's only comparable plan is $10 more a month. With these plans, the iPhone is looking sweeter and sweeter.

You have to wonder why yg17 posts on macrumors, since all he seems to do lately is spew irrational hatred for Apple.

No...it's a hatred for AT&T. He's voiced support for an unlocked phone...so I'm guessing we wouldn't be seeing the same posts if the iPhone was either unlocked or on T-Mo.

Sorry, let me clarify. I didn't mean now, as in the form of discounts in a new contract and/or initial iPhone purchase. I mean, say we buy two iPhones + Family plan/2-year contract. After the contract is over, in 2009, and you decide to renew again for another 2 years with at&t, would they give you a plan discount?

Mobile to Mobile

So does unlimited mobile to mobile mean that you can call ANY mobile phone, or just those on the AT&T network?

I'm pretty sure Cingular doesn't do plan discounts, just equipment discounts.

But for the majority of phones you are going to have to pay something and then get a rebate which will take HOW long?

I am STOKED. I just got a Blackberry 8800 a few months ago and these things are still selling unlocked/used for over $300. My gf is buying me an iPhone next week so I could just sell the BB and keep or give her the cash.

I am blown away by the rate plans. This is going to be less than I pay today for my Blackberry with data and I have a discounted plan!! Geez.

Done deal.

Just in network. No company has any network mobile to mobile unlimited. If that were the case, then there wouldn't be minutes listed on the calling plans, it would simply say "Unlimited".
