I would be there next week but im not convinced thatbi would want to lose my wallet for "discounted" price.

Or police stop you appl

police says show me your id apple said leave it home lol

Yes, it would be great if we could an official Drivers License ID app from the DMV that (like TSA Pre-Check) would work equally to a physical ID.

Maybe some of those Techies could work on that.

I don't give a crap about digital payments. I just want digital ID so I can be confident that my deliveries won't get stolen. Signatures and pictures are horrible forms of identification.

The main issue with Apple Pay is merchants not caring to enable it. Several times I try to use it and it says "contactless payment not accepted"

Not so sure if I would want to go 100% digital. Don't like the idea of having to hand my phone to an officer. If you for some reason lose your phone or run out of battery, what then? Of course I still buy my music...just sayin'

I would imagine that somebody spending that amount of money on an iMac Pro would still have plenty of money to spare after the purchase has been made.
You'd be surprised. I'm pretty sure half the people in LA with maxed-out Mercedes sedans end up with negative money after their purchases.

Pretty much every store offers contactless payments here in the UK, so this rest of us might be a-ok :)
Meanwhile, in the Bay Area, many places are still cash only. And IDK what takes Apple Pay other than Trader Joes.

The UK does seem to be the poster boy of how Apple Pay should work. I use it all the time, almost everywhere, the only exceptions being when i'm spending over the £30 limit, which is something shops need to address a lot faster than they're doing.

Seems like an odd play to have such a promotion. Of all the U.S. metro areas the Bay Area seems to already be the most adept to using mobile payments.

Technically that would be easy - it is each state and probably some foreign countries that would have to accept and provide the ability to do digital license. In the US that is 50 and you couldn't really do in 1 state until the others accepted it. Since most state systems are using 70's technology that wouldn't be easy or quick plus it might save money which government isn't really keen on.
Like with Pay I think we are many, many years from the real ability to not carry a wallet. We are one of the last countries to even use chips - and I don't think 50 % where I live have implemented chips. A great deal still make you sign even for a $10 purchase.

Gas pumps. Please God or Rockefeller put Apple Pay on the gas pumps. I've been skimmed twice at gas pumps in the last two months and have had to go back to cash to buy gas now. What a huge PITA

So, I really love how good Apple Pay is here in the UK. Everywhere I go has contactless card support/Apple Pay and it even works with some loyalty cards too. I once forgot my phone but as I was wearing my Apple Watch I was able to buy a train ticket, clothes shopping, cinema tickets, and some food from the supermarket on the way home. Such useful tech. Did I hear right that ios11 is bringing P2P payments? Because that is going to save me so much hassle if so.

Mobil now takes Apple Pay for gas pumps. Granted it's in conjunction with their app but it's pretty awesome. Works with Speedpass + Plenti points too ^_^.

It's similar regarding store support here in Finland. However, we still can't register any bank's cards for Apple Pay. By the looks of it this will never change, so in order to leave our wallets behind, we'll need to switch to Android first (like I've done).

I'm not convinced that I'll ever completely ditch my wallet. There are still many cash only places; I was at farmers market this morning and 90% of the stands are cash only.

Also, you are SOL if you exclusively rely on your phone and the battery dies. No ID, no payment options. I'd still keep a physical ID and at least some cash on me.

Also, in the unlikely event of some sort of medical mishap or accident, having a physical ID may help first responders identify you quicker than trying to find/unlock your phone to find out who you are. If you have a subway car full of passengers and it derails, injuring many, if everyone is holding onto phones which get flung across the car, how quickly do you think it will take to match phones (assuming they aren't damaged) with the individual?

We don't live in a perfect world where a digital ID would be reliable. The best way of doing this would actually be an implant (like they do with some pets), but again might not be the quickest way for any random person to identify who you are (you'd still need the right equipment plus a network connection).

Remember, cellular circuits were overloaded after the Christchurch earthquake in New Zealand and authorities were begging people not to use their cellphone phones except for dire emergencies. Do you want to rely on exclusively digital ID and digital payment on your smartphone in those sort of situations? I wouldn't.

It doesn't work in my city. There's only two mobile stations and neither works with the app. I've called and emailed corporate multiple times about this and they don't seem to be able to fix it. Apple Pay via the Speedpass app broke here in December 2016 for everyone and Mobile has no idea how to fix it. That's just another one of a sudden reasons why Apple Pay via app is stupid. JUST STICK AN NFC READER ON THE PUMPS LIKE THEY'VE HAD IN EUROPE FOR 20 YEARS!!! God why do we stupid Americans put up with this crap?

Well this analogy doesn't really work. In larger emergencies cell towers get clogged by too many people trying to make phonecalls at the same time. Authorities wanted to cut down the amount of simultaneous calls, not ban people from having their phones turned on. Digital ID (assuming it's stored on the device) and NFC payments don't require cellular or other network connectivity (between the phone and the terminal, the terminal itself needs connectivity), so as long you have battery left you're good.
