good that they're fixing things like the toolbar. problem is, devoid of the translucent glass-on-everything philosophy, we now experience Liquid Ass more as a UI reskin rather than a wholly new UI concept. and as a skin? looks pretty ugly. that is a horrible toolbar, the strong outlines stand out more than the translucency, it just looks visually busy for no reason. it might be ok enough to update to from sequoia for practical reasons but i'm afraid it's really going to be a visual step back.

it's especially annoying that they ugly it up at a time when conversion to mac is at an all time high due to the Neo landing at a great price point while Windows laptops get more expensive, and W11 getting ever worse.

Highly needed because Tahoe is buggy AF

I was recently belittled on another site for refusing to use Tahoe because of its multiple issues, on multiple devices. I will skip Golden Gate 27 and maybe go with 28. All we see now is basically artwork, the same as we saw with Siri/AI .... once burned, as the old saying goes.

I was born in SF. I took a lot of pictures of the bridge during the time I lived there. I'll use one of those to commemorate macOS Golden Gate.

Exactly, shouldn't the last OS for them be a polished experience?

Seriously, no need for a new OS every damn year. If Apple slowed down and took a few years between releases we could have an excellent user experience.
Wouldn't be an issue if they switched to semi-rolling release strategy.

How disappointing. This is apple basically backtracking. I loved the big rounded corners and the floating sidebars. Also the og glass looked gorgeous. It seems apple is caving to a loud minority yet again. If apple listened to the complaints we would be using the original aqua design from the early 2000s which I guess a few people here would love to have mostly due to nostalgia but things have to change, evolve. The deep rounded corners, floating sidebars and the original gorgeous glass were risky and different. And being different and disruptive is one of the reasons I love about apple. I hate how conservative modern apple is. Always playing it safe and backtracking the moment people afraid of change start to complain. Steve Jobs would never have backtracked like this. Lame. Back to the same boring and safe design of the past. Apple used to be a trend setter.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't subscribe to changing something just for the sake of change. If something is already beautiful and has reached its peak, why replace it with something uglier just because it feels fresh or different?

This actually sounds quite promising. The pre-Tahoe sidebar/toolbar design was perfect, and this seems to largely revert to that. I'm guardedly optimistic.

Same thing with PowerPC and Leopard/Snow Leopard, except arguably Tahoe was in worse shape than Leopard and Snow Tahoe was much more needed.

My first macos version was Mac OS X Yosemite back when I was a teen. And If I recall correctly people were also complaining back then about the new flatter design due to nostalgia. Imagine if apple caved and reverted back to the older aqua design in El Capitan. I mean I’m sure a few people here would love that, but things have to change with time. Do I like the look and feel of macOS Yosemite? Of course because it was my first version and I thought it was gorgeous at the time (and I still find it nice). Would I like macOS 27 to still look like that? Absolutely not. Things have to evolve and change with time. There’s no such a thing as perfect software or software that is feature complete. A lot of companies are very adamant to change. Apple wasn’t or didn’t used to be one of them. Last year liquid glass reminded me of the Steve Jobs apple that wasn't afraid of innovation and trying new things. I enjoyed liquid glass, fresh, refreshing and new. Apple should have refined it instead of basically reverting back to the safe and boring blur look we’ve had for the past 10 years.
