Ads will also appear in the "You Might Also Like" section at the bottom of individual app listings."

Many people complain about Google.
Now how many of them will complain about Apple and its ads its customers will now become the sources for its ads?
Wait until ads appear elsewhere outside of the App store.

You’re right. But people will still buy whether they are being fooled or not. The quality of hardware and software that Apple makes is very high and it would take some major outside innovation or technology shift to hurt their bottom line. Only when there bottom line suffers will we see less ads, less adapters, and all the other things that they’ve become great at for shareholders.
I would say the software, which was their crown jewel, has taken a major hit. They seem to be most successful in areas where they acquire other companies that are successful, such as chip-making from having acquired PA Semi. They were known for great software after acquiring NeXT and absorbing its engineers. Now they can't even manage a windowing system on the iPad.

I agree the software isn’t as polished and rock solid as it was. I personally believe as they slowly tacked on iCloud to most of their applications it became a stability and reliability problem. The software is still good though, could definitely be better. They made some smart acquisitions over the last couple decades. NeXTSTEP/Openstep Ventura…. I mean macOS Ventura is coming soon!

If Apple's putting more ads on their app store then it must be something a lot of Apple users have been asking for. That's why they're putting their energy into it.

During a panel at Kara Swisher's final Code Conference yesterday, Cook was asked why iOS has not yet adopted support for the RCS standard and how Steve Jobs would feel about it (via The Verge), despite repeated calls from the industry for the company to do so. "I don't hear our users asking that we put a lot of energy in on that at this point," Cook said in response to the question.
