So much for the “premium experience”
Apple's going for the "premium" ad experience where the ads are for them or for services that benefit them. Take the News app as an example. Every 4 or 5 stories down and I see an ad for News+. Annoying.

I love the fact you call it the subscription store, perfect name for it
Haha, appreciate you, like always. 👊😎👍

Seems like you’re either buying a chest full of gems, tokens, or coins for games, or forced into a subscription somewhere else. Subscriptions are definitely the heavyweights now. So they need to rename…

To Apple’s credit they are at least marking it as an advertisement and not using subterfuge to mask advertisements as news about products

Let me see if I understand this; Apple wants me to get a phone that will constantly spam me with adds, and they expect us to pay for the phone itself?

It’s like spending $30 shirt that has some company’s logo on it, then expecting me to do the advertisement for them. Then charging me double the price for the shirt for the licensing fees of their corporate logo.

So, after I get a thousand-dollar iPhone I will still need to spend more money to get an add blocker.
This sounds like someone from Microsoft snuck into the Apple boardroom.

Ads on the Today page don’t bother me much because the Today page is just one big advertisement and always has been. It’s completely useless. It just promotes Snapchat all day every day, or something else I’m equally repulsed by.

BUT, it’s the default page when opening the App Store. I use app shortcuts to go straight to Update or Search for this reason.

I’ve noticed a trend with Apple software lately. Shady companies have been doing this for a while but now Apple is getting onboard.

Rather than overtly loading an ad, they simply re-load the application back to the page that has promotions on it.

Open Apple TV, and instead of defaulting to Watch Now or Library, it defaults to Apple TV+ tab.

Open Music without a Music subscription and god help you.

Same with News, etc.

Audible has been doing this for years. Every time I re-open the app, it goes to the store page to advertise at me rather than back to Now Playing or Library.

But I thought Apple hated ads?
Apple was never against ads, merely the tracking that powers targeted ads. That’s what ATT addresses. Nothing about running their own ads in the App Store goes against Apple’s official stance on tracking, and their opposition to the tracking and sharing of data across multiple sources.

Nice! The company that was the only alternative to the endless ad-driven hellscape that the internet has become is finally going all-in on advertising. As long as it's all done on-device and with privacy in mind, it's OK if I get served paid content instead of the thing I'm searching for or that I opened the app to find!

That’s fine. I’ll just stop using Apple services. I stopped using Apple News because of the ads. Mail will be next I think, just like outlook, ads everywhere. No problem. I moved to Dropbox for my storage anyway. I’ll just wipe my phone and delete anything that I can that’s preinstalled and just use apps that don’t track and no ads. Paying for an app whatever the cost isn’t an issue. Ads and tracking is.
