Haha! You’re criticizing them wrong. Seems like it’s a good thing for developers, which should make it a good thing for the App Store and consumers.
That’s a very valid criticism given the amount of software bugs in recent years and a very stagnant product cycle across the board this year.

I do not want to switch from MacOS to Linux. But if Apple starts polluting my computer desktop with ads, I will have no choice but to switch. I do serious work on my computer. I will not have it turned into a platform for Apple to advertise at me.

I think the Mac will be the last place they do this. People on mobile sadly seem used to ads and poor experiences.

So let’s get this straight
Yea set the record straight.
….product prices are up
Only the top end in the US.
innovation is stagnant,
False.
I pay for all of apples services
You don’t pay for anything. Like a dev if you pay for services you opt in.
……and now I’ll be seeing more ads.
Don’t open the App Store.
Thanks Tim Apple
Seems like this is good for devs.

Apple finding little ways to pad profit margins in a big way, that is Tim's #1 job after all.
It kind of is, isn’t it 😆? I mean, no business will advertise it, but making money is pretty much the whole purpose of every business when it comes down to it.

It all adds up to a lot of extra profit overall. They lied and fooled people that it was for the environment with the cables/chargers.
If both profit and environment benefit, it’s not impossible to do it for both reasons.

They didn’t lie because it’s true. It’s just not the only reason. But of course, expecting any company to say “we want to make a few more bucks on selling you something at the same price” isn’t the most reasonable.

I disagree. This release has about the same amount of bugs as prior releases, in my opinion. There is no way of objectively measuring this and people will say what they want. And to me the iPhone 14 pro max is innovative. Air pods 2 innovative. Apple Watch 8 and ultra innovative.

If privacy mattered to you would either:
1)not be using iOS devices
2)use iOS devices on the assumption that all your data is being spied on and sold to ad companies and government

Either way you shouldn’t be shocked. Big business isn’t going toss out massive profits of data dealing just because it’s “the right thing to do”

and this is why apple made SUCH a fuss over 3rd party advertising, it had NOTHING to do with privacy concerns, it was merely so apple could implement their own ads services on its customers, quite frankly that is anti competitive and so they should be sued to high heaven
And Apple privacy might be the next thing to go.

This is said like it’s a bad thing. It’s a good thing. And it’s up to the individual to decide if apple is nickel and diming them to death and if it’s worth it going forward.
Ads, not including chargers and/or cables with some products. It all adds up to a lot of extra profit overall.
No, because apples gross margin will probably stay the same. And due to inflation everything has gotten more expensive.
They lied and fooled people that it was for the environment with the cables/chargers.
The environment is exactly what it is.
I wonder if they can somehow spin this as something admirable and get those same fools to fall for this as well.
Please define the universe of “same fools”. Those who believe there is a benefit to the environment by not manufacturing hundreds of millions of bricks?

Did Apple make a fuss over 3rd party advertising in general? I thought it was just about advertising based on personal tracking without notice or permission. 3rd parties are free to advertise based on tracking if they get permission, and those who advertise without tracking weren’t affected at all. It doesn’t sound like Apple’s ads described in this article are doing any tracking, so it still seems like the fuss was just about privacy.

Honestly I haven’t been on the App Store in over a year probably. It’s littered with subscriptions. I’m finding myself just using Apple’s apps. Or if I want to redownload an app, I just spotlight search it, it pops up, and I tap the download button.

The move to subscriptions really destroyed my want or need to download additional apps.

I have hardly used the AppStore to actually look for apps since whatever iOS release turned it into crap. I pretty much come across apps randomly online in some articles and it takes me directly to the download page. I only access the update section besides that.

The moment I read „you may also like“ anywhere, I automatically zone out like NOPE. I already hated it when I was still using Facebook and the newsfeed many years ago

It is purely for profit.

Apple clearly wants to see how far they can push it: a ridiculous iPad release, the USB-C/Lightning mess, the most idiotic dongle yet, jaw dropping price hikes and now… more ads.
