Sigh, once again Cook shows us his incompetence. Jobs picked the perfect screen size. Only an idiot would change it to a larger size. You would think after seeing so few sales from the 12.9" that he would get the hint that no one likes to carry around a ginormous device. So, instead of making the 9.7" smaller by squeezing the bezel, he went the other way! So now buyers have to chose between big and bigger. The size differential between the two Pro devices are now too narrow. This is just plain dumb.
Isn't that due to the fact new improvements can't be applied to smaller devices? Or what I am saying doesn't make any sense?

I was just wondering if, for example, Apple wanted to make the battery last longer, wouldn't that be impossible to do without requiring the iPAD to be different than it is now (consider the IPP 9.7)? In terms of weight? Thickness?

And I agree that when they released the 12.9 model I thought myself "this is going to be a failure". Some will like it, but it will never have the same feedback from the smaller versions. My first iPAD was 4 and then I switched to the Pro 9.7. That is the perfect size, I see no reason to increase it, even though it appears (according to the specs) the new 10.5 it's not thicker and heavier (compared to my IPP 9.7).

Going to miss the Mini, but since Apple appears to not want to update it I'll go for a 10.5 and get used to the bigger size like I did with the 7 Plus. Good timing for Discover to offer 5% cash back on Apple Store purchases;).

Am I the only one who finds it odd that iPad was increased to 120 Hz display, but no Macs have it?

Not natively for certain - Apple doesn't support MKV files. But iOS 11 does have built-in support for H.265 encode/decode, so third-party apps should be able to do it with the OS's built-in codec support.

Also, "MKV lossless" is a bit of a misnomer. You mean "an MKV direct rip".

mkv is just a container, it can hold whatever you want it to hold.

I saw a demo of the new OS11 control panel where there was a long depress which triggered a 3D like effect. Is that a new implementation or just the standard way OS10 works.

I cancelled the order I just placed for the new iPad Pro because of no 3d. There are a lot of iPhone music apps, and others, that would be perfect for 3D Touch. I just assumed they would have worked it out technically by now. I have a iPad Pro now and not enough reason to upgrade now

Nice to see the increased 10.5" screen and refresh rate...but these are incremental changes. I'll stick with my 9.7" iPad Pro until they ditch the home button and go OLED. Maybe then they'll return to the 9.7" form factor but with a 10.5" screen.

You're welcome to your opinion, but I ordered the 256GB Space Grey model (why oh why no matte black option?) as an upgrade from my iPad Air 2, and one of the reasons was the increased 10.5" screen size. My colleagues have the older iPads, and while the 12.9" is far too big, the 9.7" feels a bit too small for working on as a laptop replacement.

For me, this strikes the appropriate middle ground.

Oh, and iOS 11 looks hot.

I like the new ipad pro 10.5 inch and ios 11 for ipad. A few things i expected were not on the featurelist though, a shame:
1. An all black version
2. No group facetime option in ios 11
3. No way to magnetically stick the pencil to the ipad or charge it (through smart connector)
4. I hoped it would get the same res as the 12.9 inch ipad, but higher dpi :326, like the ipad mini.
5. A small trackpad on the keyboard , just to correct or highlight text.

But i like the drag and drop and filemanagement, that exceeded my expectations.

No OLED display!
No 3D touch!
No Upate to 7.9 inch model?
No slim bezels for the 12.9 model, same old design
No Matt /Jet black colour option
Tim's got to keep those margins up!

Wrong. You don't understand how profit margins are taken into account. It's Based on the amount of revenue from sales exceeding costs. Implementing a new color doesn't equate to a profit margin at all, nor does the non-existent announcement of a missing iPad Mini. Please explain to me how an iPad mini contributes to profit margin's based on a item that IS still currently available? The fact that they didn't release the new iPad mini today, has nothing to do with the product that's already in existence with factoring costs related features.

Again, 3D Touch has nothing to do with profit margins. Tim Cook stated the difficulty of implementing 3D Touch on a large display, as well on the iPhone. Perhaps we don't know the restrictions Apple might have encountered trying input 3D Touch on to a large display.

Half empty huh?
Why don't you look at bigger display, higher refresh rate, faster, bigger base storage, smaller bezel for 10.5 inch model?

Some don't grasp the concept of what you're referring to and they think that every new piece of hardware should have the latest and greatest specifications available. But they don't understand what it takes and cost to implement Some of those features. Basically, they just shaft the new hardware with superficial features and don't consider the other upgrades internally.

I'll confess, I went online and bought a maxed Space Grey 10.5" as soon as the store went back up. The drag and drop and files iOS 11 demo sold me hard. It is exactly how I had envisioned and hoped they would implement multitasking and file management. Am going to seriously give it a go as a replacement even on a professional level (work as an external consultant CFO for start-ups).

Made this purchase over a new 2017 rMB even though it now has a 16GB RAM option - and even though the 10.5" has a 2224x1668 resolution instead of the full 2732x2048 that I had hoped for. The rest of the screen updates were also very satisfying.

Love the long overdue addition of the documents scanner to notes, system-wide drag and drop, multitasking app picker, and implementation of a properly customisable dock alá macOS.

All that's really left is giving iPad Pro proper desktop web browsing and my wish list will have been completely fulfilled by Apple, something I never thought I could say before.

Now let's get full app parity! The Affinity Photo app demo was impressive to say the least. Hopefully that puts pressure on Adobe to release proper Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator at the very least. Office and iWork full parity next, though!

Finally a good uograde from my iPad Air! 10.5" iPad Pro is gonna make a good addition.

These new iPad's along with the new IOS 11 features make a laptop replacement very possible. I was thinking about buying a 12" MacBook but i'm glad that i held off after what Apple announced yesterday (a great WWDC for sure :)) i'm going to be upgrading my current iPad Pro, the only thing to think about is which size to go for 10.5" or 12.9"?

512GB option is moving closer to laptop replacement in terms of storage for sure

IOS 11 features such as drag and drop, the File's app, new multitasking, dock and the new Notes features make this great

Scan and sign is also a great feature (granted it is available as a separate app in the app store form 3rd party)

Mark up is going to be great when needing to take notes or draw on a specific document/photo or safari webpage.

It looks great, I'd be strongly considering one for certain if I was in the market. However I am sat here, browsing this site just fine on my Air Mk1 so guess I'm not.

Edit: Just seen UK prices!!!

Why would I buy this over an iPhone Plus?
It's £709 for 256GB which to me isn't crazy given the 256GB 9.7 pro cost £668

Agreed

I will still use the MacBook for certain things but it's getting closer now.

Tempting by 10.5 as it's the perfect in between size. Might get it with cellular

Tempted to replace my iPad Air 2 with this one. Love the increase in screen real estate without increasing the size of the device.

However, would it be prudent to wait for the OLED display version next year? I already got burned by buying the late 2016 MBP and seeing them update it again today in 6 months.

Are you going to use Apple pencil a lot?
If not, keep your Air 2. As far as I understand it will get the multitasking features we saw yesterday in the keynote, and is still a good device. But of course it doesn't support pencil, so if you want to use it iPad pro is the only choice you have.
I think I'll wait for another year before moving to the pro, Air 2 is just great for my needs

Should have used the pen for 3D touch... I'll keep rocking my Air2.

Ditto
I understand it would be hard to implement 3D touch under the display, but Pencil is already capable of sensing different pressure, so it shouldn't be too hard to add 3D touch shortcuts on the iPad using Pencil
