LOL… Less RAM on the cheapest MBPs, whack-ass configs across the board, and still stupid-expensive storage upgrades:

It felt weird presentation never seen so much comparison vs an Intel-Mac and they kept going on about how fast vs Intel-mac.. of course its going to be 11x faster.. there must be a lot of users still using Intel.

Not much gaming demo that people expected so not sure why the change of event time..
I think it’s because anyone on an M chip isn’t going to be the target audience for this refresh cycle. The audience is going to be Intel upgrades and outright new purchases. Computers weren’t ever meant to have the same upgrade cycle as a phone. They are bigger investments.

No Face ID, No Multi Monitor Support, and only 10-15% more powerful than M2. Who's this for? lol

Ah ye no multi monitor support too, that's a shame since I'm trying to build a 4-monitor setup made of my current Studio Display + the upcoming Apple XDR 2 or whichever monitors they'll come up with next.

And no OLED either!

I guess M3 is for those who bought late-2020 M1s (like me) or earlier. I may skip this one and wait for the next one after all.

Well, after just buying a new MacBook Pro 3 months ago, I knew that the M3 would eventually be released. I’m not mad about that, I’m mad that I could have saved $400 and had a faster machine.

This feels like a slap in the face to anyone who bought an M2 Pro/Max. Yes, something new is always around the corner but releasing the huge refresh the very same year?!

I just bought an M2 MBP in September because my 2017 Intel MBP was no longer supported. It’s very frustrating to see that just a month later I could have gotten an M3 MBP for the same exact price as a machine released just 9 months ago…

A lot of people wait 3-5 years to upgrade their systems. They are still valid to make references to Intel Macs for those that are waiting the 5 years.

And seriously? M1 was ALL comparisons to Intel Macs.

5:29 pmTim is back. "There's never been a better time to experience a Mac."

Come on Tim, that is true at every new Mac event. Don’t be cliche.
The other thing they always say is “this is the fastest [device] Apple has ever made”. Yeah no ****. As if they were going to release one that was slower than its predecessor…

Truth be told, for most people, there will be very little difference. If an app opens in under a second, what difference does it make if it is 2x faster? If you are on an existing M chip, there is no need to rush to upgrade.
Graphics pros may want to, but I don’t see anything compelling me to replace my 16” M1 Pro. It’s already perfect…

The event was at 2 AM in my timezone. I had to stay up so I can watch it. It was truly worth it 😄

Anyways love the new Space Black color !! And it’s nice to see hardware ray tracing finally coming to Macs now for the first time.

Also, I guess the M3 config in the 14-inch MacBook Pro is supposed to replace the 13-inch TouchBar MacBook Pro. I think it makes more sense this way.

The $1599 model is a little cut back so I don’t feel as bad. Less ram, standard M3 and one less USB port.

This is odd, looking at the Compare models page, the M2 Pro chip had 200GB/s memory bandwidth, while the new M3 Pro only has 150GB/s. Additionally, the M2 Pro had 8 performance + 4 efficiency cores, the M3 Pro has 6 performance + 6 efficiency cores. This is all a bit odd to me. I believe them that the chips are still faster all around, but seeing a lower memory bandwidth and fewer performance cores just strikes me as unexpected.

Really don't understand 8 GB entry level RAM. Assuming Apple maintains OS support for 5 years, it means Apple will need to ensure the 2028 MacOS update run with 8 GB RAM to continue supporting all the M3 MBP/iMac buyers. This could easily be 2030 if support is for 6 years and the M3 MBA doesn't launch until deep into next year...

Yeah, same for me. I had a 2019 Intel MBP and got an M1 MBP. Huge upgrade and was meant to future proof. Will wait for M5 if this is going to be the upgrade cycle (M2 MBP just came out in January).
