Find a way to turn off turboboost as unfortunately this 10th gen chip is still using the hoary 14nm+++++++++ process and runs even hotter. PC versions of this chip can pull 250 watts all by itself. I'm pretty sure though that Apple is using a power limited version of the chip. Hopefully the hard drive space of the prior model has been taken up by a twice larger heatsink.

I'm tempted to replace my 2012 imac with a loaded 5700XT model, even though they look the same as I want to be able to game and work on the same desktop and Apple Silicon iMac will likely not have that ability for awhile if ever.

I upgraded my iMac 2017 i7 4.2 with two 16GB RAM modules directly after I purchased the iMac in 2017.
Will these two modules also work in the 10 core iMac released today?

Would be nice if someone could help me out on this question.

The RAM on the 2017 is slower (still DDR4), so there’s no guarantee. Ostensibly, the voltage is the same but I would just get new RAM.

Looks exactly the same as my 2015 iMac...

Thank goodness - means I can buy this one without my wife realising I've upgraded.

Thank you Apple!

Wow, 45 likes.

A LOT of you care more about how your stupid computer looks than what it can actually do.

This 2020 iMac is a monster powerhouse compared to your gimped 2015 iMac. But hey, it looks the same ... so it's crap ... right?!!

Similar to the 2019 i9 before it, its now even more capable than an imac pro Im sure.

Same embarrassingly dated design? Jikes, even my Dell desktop at work from 4 years ago has less bezel

Yep. The bezel is KILLING your productivity isn't it? I'm sure you would purchase a much weaker iMac if it just had some kind of 'cool, modern' (in your opinion) design on the outside.

I'm sure you'll divorce your wife when she gets past 40 and doesn't look as 'fresh' and 'new' as she once did, LOL

P.S. Sadly, I've met a few guys like that. Just a shame to see that sentiment bleeds over into productivity tools. Just how shallow are some people, honestly.

I think it's that a lot of us are amused at the idea that the machine looking the same provides a way to upgrade without raising the ire of an overly controlling spouse. :)

Thank you. I don't get the 'change for changes sake' people. Who the hell cares about the bezels? I'm looking at the damn screen not the bezels. Besides the bezels give me a nice separation between my content and the rest of the room behind the imac.

It’s ok to have an opinion and that’s your opinion on the bezels.
You should realise however that many people don’t like them, myself included. They do look completely outdated and there is no arguing this.
I have worked on plenty of computers that have smaller bezels and are more pleasant to work on so this ‘separation’ argument is null in my mind.

In addition, my iMac used to have fans blasting and was not as good as I thought it would be.
I would buy another iMac pro but they are outdated now. That computer was awesome and certainly far far better than the imacs I had.

I am in the market for a desktop. Have the cash ready. Will not be buying a 8 year old clunky bezel design that overheats. Good luck to all those who must have intel - I am getting a PC for that [for the first time in 25 years]

No it doesn’t effect any productivity whatsoever. But it destroys one of the top 3 reasons I buy apple products for.........

Frankly I don't mind the bezels. The product is definitely due for a refresh but the bezels aren't that bad.

On the other hand, I don't use multiple displays on my iMac with the requirement that the dividing line between them be thin. I know this is a need some people have, and the bezels preclude that usage.

Aside from that issue, there's just nothing wrong with them. They look fine, and the "chin" provides a great place to stick post-it notes with your password on them.

(I'm KIDDING!)

Interesting update to me. They didn't touch the 4k option at all, which is a first IIRC. I think the upgrades are fine for what they are, and the spinning hard drives are gone across the board which is good and a value add to all models. It's obvious that the redesign is reserved for ARM.

Yep, and I'll bet when your wife gets a little older it will 'destroy' one of the top three reasons you married her. Just sayin' 😘

I know everyone's bummed about no redesign but honestly, I don't think we will get anything substantial when we go to ARM either.

I'm guessing Apple doesn't see much ROI to redesign what are quickly becoming niche products.

How is the iMac a niche product? Hell, demand for them has gone up lately because of people working from home.

it makes sense (to me) to "just" do a refresh on an Intel Mac, they'll be gone in a couple years anyway so why "waste" resources on a complete re-design? bet this is coming with the apple silicon one ...

For everyone asking, yes the memory on the 27" iMac is still user-upgradable:

"8GB (two 4GB) of 2666MHz DDR4 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible

Configurable to 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB"

Dammit, 6 months ago I bought almost top specced 2019 model (without Vega 48). And now this new configs are cheaper (because 8C/16T CPU is now in basic top tier offer) and with better GPUs. Makes me really angry.

Don't buy the new iMac, the apple chips will blow this thing away and as apple stated in 2 year no longer selling if not sooner....save your money...wait another 6 months....

I was going to get an iMac in 2016, but decided to hold off until 2018 because I expected a 20th anniversary redesign, like they did with the iPhone X for it’s 10th anniversary. It never happened, so I carried on waiting. After 4 years I’m now forced to get the legacy design because the new ones won’t let me duel boot with Windows and I want an iMac and Gaming PC in one, so I’m stuffed 😩
