Do you care to elaborate how slim bezels could improve user experience on iMac?
How do they help on anything? why do MacBook pro’s not have super thick bezels? going from my 2011 to a 2016 the smaller bezel improved my experience with the machine. Doesn’t mean it will for you though but I like have less bezel on anything. Did the iPhone x full screen phone improve user experience? I understand people don’t mind the big bezels of the old but having slimmer ones for me personally I’d never go back to something thick. My monitor I have for the past few years has a super slim bezel also. Not attached to the desk it’s free standing so it doesnt have a set wall to backdrop to And it’s improved my workflow with what “i” do.

I have a 21.5 late 2015 iMac and am debating whether I should upgrade now or wait until they hopefully release something new later this year or early next year? Regrettably I have a stupid fusion drive (it was available on the spot as my previous computer died) and non upgradeable 16gb ram. It is painfully slow most times. I was hoping I wouldn't have been put in this predicament of having to choose or wait. I am okay with a smaller than 27 inch screen btw. I'm a designer and use my iMac for work.

Keep in mind these Mac still have thunderbolt 3 and pc's are now going thunderbolt 4 so best to wait...rumours of iMac 24" ARM in October / November...I'd wait because down the road it will be difficult to sell and intel Mac...save your money and wait...

What RDNA1?! 🤯🤬 Then what took them so long? I thought they gonna get RDNA2, there is no redesign and pretty much already outdated GPU as always, this should be done months ago 🤬 ...and in their last Intel iMac...They probably did this so the GPU in their Apple Silicon Macs won't look as bad in comparison as they would, RDNA2 is double the performance of RDNA1 plus ray tracing

How is the iMac a niche product? Hell, demand for them has gone up lately because of people working from home.
Computers in general are becoming niche products. Not immediately, but most people's needs are already served by tablets and smartphones.

You don't need a quadcore i7 to browse Facebook.

Really Come on apple. But we all know the redesign will be for the new Chips. 8 Years is too long for a redesign.

But they found a way to reuse parts, and this is the way it's going to be. Every corner of the new iMac features a touch-responsive display exactly the size of a refurbished iPhone 6s… and each takes its own separate call.

Did you think they were being allegorical when they showed this?

Apple today announced a new 27-inch iMac with faster 10th-generation Intel Core processor options, next-generation AMD graphics, up to 128GB of RAM, a higher-resolution 1080p front-facing FaceTime camera, a True Tone display with a nano-texture glass option, a T2 chip, higher fidelity speakers, studio-quality microphones, and more.

A breakdown of the new 27-inch iMac's features and specs:
  • 10th-generation Intel Core processors for up to 65 percent faster CPU performance, according to Apple. This includes up to a 10-core option with a 3.6GHz base clock speed and Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz, whereas the previous-generation iMac used 9th-generation Intel processors with up to eight cores.
  • Next-generation AMD Radeon Pro 5000 series graphics options with up to 55 percent faster performance than the previous generation, according to Apple.
  • Up to 128GB of RAM, compared with up to 64GB with the previous generation.
  • Up to 8TB of SSD storage, compared with up to 2TB with the previous generation.
  • True Tone technology that automatically adjusts the white balance of the iMac display to match the color temperature of the light around you. Apple says this provides a more natural viewing experience.
  • Nano-Texture glass is available as a $500 upgrade option. Also available on the Pro Display XDR, Apple says this finish "maintains contrast while scattering light to reduce glare to the barest minimum."
  • 1080p front-facing FaceTime camera, up from 720p on previous generation.
  • Apple's custom-designed T2 Security chip for encryption. The chip checks that software loaded during the boot process has not been tampered with.
  • Apple says the T2 Security Chip also works with the speakers to enable variable EQ for better balance, higher fidelity, and deeper bass.
  • A new studio-quality microphone array for higher-quality audio.
Starting at $1,799, the new 27-inch iMac is available to order today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app. It will begin arriving to customers and will be in select Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers starting this week.

The new 27-inch iMac features the same design used since the 2012 model, with a redesigned, Apple Silicon-based iMac expected later this year.

Apple today also made a minor update to the iMac Pro, equipping the base configuration with the 10-core 3.0 GHz Xeon W chip that was previously an upgrade option. In addition, the smaller 21.5-inch iMac now comes standard with SSDs across the line for the first time. Customers can still choose to configure their 21.5-inch iMac with a Fusion Drive.

Yep, and I'll bet when your wife gets a little older it will 'destroy' one of the top three reasons you married her. Just sayin' 😘

There are thousands of women more pretty than my partner.
There are no computer hardware better designed and integrated as Apple.

Anyway I just went ‘Bi’ and ordered my first PC in 20 years......

did you get the i9. I am eager to see the cooling

I searched benchmarks for the two procs in the PC world, and at best its a few % better for the workloads I care about. More cores feels like "bigger is better" marketing, but for the apps I care about they aren't making use of all those cores anyway. Normally I buy the top spec processor and video card and keep for 5-10 years, but not this time. i7 and the top vid card, 1tb ssd (more than that not a value - just run external ssd if needed) and will use 3rd party for memory upgrade. Kinda feel shafted on the value front, but my daughters imac is a 2010, and she needs the trickle down economics lol. (I'll give her my 2015 i7 4.0)

Wow, 45 likes.

A LOT of you care more about how your stupid computer looks than what it can actually do.

This 2020 iMac is a monster powerhouse compared to your gimped 2015 iMac. But hey, it looks the same ... so it's crap ... right?!!
My reason for getting this new iMac is the 10G ethernet. It's still less, in price, than the iMac pro.

Hopefully this means the webcam upgrade will be coming to MacBooks soon!

Hot damn! I was so blown away eitht the other specs and thinking this pretty much renders the iMac Pro (prior to today’s spec bump) useless even at used pricing save for the Space Grey colouring.

man those that were needing an iMac upgrade just be singing in the rain like crazy today!!

funny enough it rained here in Toronto, took some pics to share of the clouds breaking up.

Have a little mercy on the guys, Nicole. Many have been complaining (read: whining )about bezels for years. They need something to look forward to in life.

If you keep beating the boys up, they won’t come out and play on the forums any more. :p

Intel launch in 1Q2021 means MBP release around the 3Q2021. But Apple should already have released their 16” MBP based on Apple Silicon by then.

But Apple aren't dropping support for Intel next year, they are still releasing Intel-based products. Also, the 10th generation was only just launched a few months ago, so a Q2 2021 MacBook Pro is possible using Tigerlake H-Series.

Ready to move on the base 27" iMac until I saw that there's no option to upgrade the paltry 256GB SSD, unless you spring for the extra $200 that will bump the i5 Core processor from 3.1 GHz to 3.3 GHz and the SSD up to 512GB. Only then do you get the option of bumping the storage up to 1TB or 2TB. I'll hold off for a little while and see if any other storage options come up.
ikr, who wants a free CPU upgrade anyway?

Everyone’s like can we get a new iMac design apple. It’s been ages with the same basic design. Apple is like....

Maxing out the 27" iMac (Nano, i9, 128GB, 8TB SSD, 5700XT) lands just south of $9,000.00 USD. This is your one and only warning that the iMac Pro is getting zero updates, buy it at your own risk.

Apple laid the groundwork for this to be either the final Intel iMac or the next to final update as they will be able to simply drop in a Rocket Lake-S CPU using the same 400-Series PCH that is in this model and leave everything else the same. Whether that happens depends on how well uptake of the AplSi goes over the next year. The inclusion of T2 surprises me, but that simply means that those of us without T2 will probably lose macOS updates sooner than those with T2, but I'm rumormongering without solid evidence.

Obviously, by the lack of any meaningful update to the 21.5" 4K iMac, this is the final version of that model. We will be treated to a 23" AplSi iMac in October for the holiday buying season or Apple will hold it until Q1/2021.

Solid upgrade, if uninspired. Anyone thinking Apple would redesign the iMac before the AplSi switch is picking and choosing their delusions.

Apple updates the 27" first to get more sales before upgrading the 21". Probably see an update later before their Silicon iMacs come out...

I am with Nicole. I care more about what the iMac can do, versus what it looks like bezel wise. It isn’t a priceless work of art, or long lost pirate treasure to be fondled over. It is just a Mac that helps people get work and pleasure done in a fun and productive manner.
