I guess that means the redesign is being saved for ARM which makes sense.

I know the design is way past a refresh, but I’ve got one on my desk now and its still a great all-in-one desktop machine - I don’t really spend much time focusing on the bezels when I’m using it.

Does it really matter if the bezels are 1 inch or 10 inches? It’s a desktop computer, it’s not like you’re gonna bring it with you in a backpack. On the contrary, large bezels in the iMac allows for more airflow. Because of this the iMac is almost always silent, in contrast to the new MBPs which can’t even drive an external screen without the fans going crazy.
Why do you think Apple is moving away from Intel?

Will be intresting to see the nano-texture glass version, not suprised about no redesign the Intel processors do throw some heat out and it's got to be cooled some how.

yes, using a monitor that has slim bezels is nice and makes it more enveloping. you don't need to make excuses for apple. Slim bezels improve user experience in a desktop space greatly. This is more than likely the last refresh before apples own chips and the redesign. Pushing out the last of the inventory.

I know why they’re moving away. But this iMac has an Intel chip. So a large bezel makes perfect sense for this iMac.

They shouldn’t reduce the bezels before the chip change.
I know, I'm just pointing out this is why the MacBooks suck with power handling. It's not Apple's fault and has nothing to do with the iMac having large bezels. Smaller design with inefficient chips = more heat. It's not rocket science, on an iMac there is more wiggle room for better fans etc.

So I have to wonder - when Tim said they still have Intel macs on the roadmap...was this it?

I don't see Apple putting Intel into a new iMac body. All the notebook lines are ripe for a design refresh. The only thing left is the Mac Pro, which I could see them keeping Intel/ASi options available there (Just because there is easily enough space + cooling to accommodate any processor variation.
