yes, using a monitor that has slim bezels is nice and makes it more enveloping. you don't need to make excuses for apple. Slim bezels improve user experience in a desktop space greatly. This is more than likely the last refresh before apples own chips and the redesign. Pushing out the last of the inventory.
What’s even more nice is staying quiet. If you want something nice just buy a painting with small bezels. I can’t even use Zoom on my 16” MBP when connected to a 4K screen because the fan noise is so damn high.

Same embarrassingly dated design? Jikes, even my Dell desktop at work from 4 years ago has less beze

Yes cuz I have to look at it all day thinking damn this thing looks like an old tube tv

Looks over at my desk with the 23" Cinema HD Display from 2002 that I still use as a second display for my iMac (by sending it through an Apple "ADC to DVI Port" adapter then through a Apple "DVI to Display Port" Adapter)

...What Dated Design?

Buy a painting with small bezels? Uhh....you do know the benefits of having smaller bezels right?

You've hit on something that Apple has to be doing on purpose. Every time Apple updates a machine, it is the "most powerful and capable ever" - why else would they upgrade it? I bet the crack Apple PR team has a good laugh at this continuous trolling!

"Apple(R) today announced a major update to its 27-inch iMac(R). By far the most powerful and capable iMac ever"

Epic troll. With the offered base amount of RAM, it can't even handle Kubernetes alone.

This might actually be the machine to buy if you want one of the last Intel Macs that can natively run x86 code. I'm going to be seriously mulling over this.

Agreed; I think this is a smart purchase.

The changes are fantastic, and make this the ultimate iMac for this generation. The changes really close the remaining gaps on the iMac. It’ll be great for 3-5 years while Apple is working out the issues in their new chip platform and OS.

The one I configured is $5200. My 2019 iMac is maxed out with every bell and whistle you would want ant is' still insanely fast. My 'bottleneck' now is my NAS in the basement is running off physical hard drives so that's the slowest thing in my life now. would like to build an SSD NAS but with 80 terabytes of data, physical hard drives are still the best way to do it.

I'm guessing over the next 5 years, I'll go 100% 10GB Cat 6 router, switch, iMac and go SSD for my NAS.

Hey, while it would be nice to have the luxury to wait for a 27” AS iMac, having a dead iMac on my desk doesn’t give me that option. This computer will do nicely until the 27” AS iMac actually comes out. And no, I’m not interested in the initial 24” AS that will probably hit sooner. I’ve been using a 27” monitor WAY too long to downgrade sizes now.

Nice little spec bump and presumably the final Intel iMac refresh before they switch over to ARM, though I expect the iMac Pro to remain on Intel for at least another revision or two.

Glad to see they finally ditched the Fusion drives. Makes the $1299 model much more palatable and even the $1,099 model is finally a sensible purchase if the display resolution doesn't bother you.

I love the new iMac 5k with SSD. I highly recommended having SSD over Fusion Drive because of better performance. Big time.

By the way, I am still waiting for Big Sur beta...

same old design???

Apple today announced a new 27-inch iMac with faster 10th-generation Intel Core processor options, next-generation AMD graphics, up to 128GB of RAM, a higher-resolution 1080p front-facing FaceTime camera, a new nano-texture glass display with True Tone support, a T2 chip, higher fidelity speakers, studio-quality microphones, and more.

Starting at $1,799, the new 27-inch iMac is available to order today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app. It will begin arriving to customers and will be in select Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers starting this week.

The new 27-inch iMac features the same design used since the 2012 model, with a redesigned, Apple Silicon-based iMac expected later this year.

Apple today also announced that its 21.5-inch iMac will come standard with SSDs across the line for the first time. Customers can also choose to configure their 21.5-inch iMac with a Fusion Drive.

More details to follow…

Do you care to elaborate how slim bezels could improve user experience on iMac?

A good upgrade.

So funny many here thought Apple was going to release a new design before the transition to ARM. Whine on!
Because they have done it in the past...
