People always feel the need to complain.

Of course. That's how life works. Not everyone will be satisfied. There are some "legitimate concerns" out there, but a lot of people complain because they're demanding too much. Out of 10, I will give Apple a 7.5/10 for this 5S to SE upgrade.

Considering that the iPhone SE is almost and iPhone 6S internally with almost half the price - makes this phone quite interesting. BUT - why on earth did they not update the hardware design? Most people in this price-range don't really care about the innards and specifications - they care mostly about the physical appeal of the device. Even if the design is 'nice' it is (getting) old.

Eh, I personally think it's gorgeous, in the same way that a classic 'vette is. It's a much-loved iPhone design that was popular enough to sell millions of iPhone 5s units even just this past year.

It is basically an iPhone 5S++

I think a small phone in the product line deserves its own design and not a rehash of several year old bodies just in a new color.

No 128GB.

Same giant bezels.

Wish Apple would give us a flagship 4" iPhone. Hanging onto my iPhone 5 for another year. :(

This keynote...protruding camera on the iPad? Ridiculous. Starting with 15 minutes of research and health was worthy, but incredibly boring. Only Phil Schiller exuded any appreciable enthusiasm. The Apple Watch is obviously selling badly; no sales figures and a 20% price drop. The iPad has been increased in price by 20%; just what is needed in the face of 8 quarters of plummeting sales. Shares are down post-keynote.

I find the death of Apple painful to watch. All good things come to an end, I guess. I'm grateful to Steve Jobs and all who worked with him for his amazing products.

I found the last paragraph extremely funny, I just don't know why. The level of stupidity that a person can reach it's quite amazing.

It's absolutely ridiculous that there is no 128gb model. My 4s was 64gb. 4S! Do you realize how many years ago that was (hint: 5 years). And it filled up completely... quickly. If you take pictures regularly your phone will fill up real fast (and I'm taking about the 64gb model). I've had a 5s for years and it's been completely full the whole time. Some apps and stuff, no music (no room for it), but mostly pictures... and forget about video, there's no room for that. Constantly having to go back, back up, and then delete. And now 4k video? Prepare to shoot just a couple mins and fill up your phone completely. 4k video files are not small (even compressed). 16gb... jesus, you can't get much more clueless than that. You people who are thinking of getting a 16gb, don't bother, waste of money. Guess I'll hold onto the 5s until they figure out how to advance the smaller storage option beyond 2011 (when the first 64 4s phones were released). Sad.

Sure makes an Android phone with SD card options look good doesn't it? You can pop out your sd card and slap in another 128gb in a about a minute. What concept huh?

That's awesome, you gotta respect Apple. They can release a phone with bezels from 5 years ago and consumers will eat it up, pure genius. I wonder if consumers don't realize how much larger of a screen they should have with today's technology.

You do realize Apple has two larger screen phones already, right? This is for the people who specifically WANT a smaller screen, or want a much cheaper iPhone. I'm willing to bet that for most people the takeaway will be that it features mostly the same latest and greatest internals as the flagship iPhones that cost much more. But sure, you can complain about the bezels...

Show us a better one handed phone in the same size currently available from any manufacture with the latest tech. We'll wait....

Meh, I don't particularly see it as a powerhouse. Certainly specs look great when marketing an item, but specs that don't improve anything don't really matter to me. I'm not saying it's a bad phone, no it seems like a great phone actually. I was just saying how interesting it was to observe consumers no doubt lining up to get a phone with massive bezels reminiscent of 5 year old technology. Only Apple could do this.

Personally I'd rather go a small amount larger and have a MUCH larger screen. The S7, for example, has a MUCH larger 5.5" display and only increases size marginally. 123x56x7 (ip5 dimensions, I'm not sure what the SE dimensions are but assumed they were almost identical) vs. 142x69x7. Personally I would feel kind of stupid if I bought the SE and then put it next to the S7, but that's just me.

Of course it's $300 or so more so that will factor in, but you also get much nicer specs, screen resolution/size, etc. But once again, just my opinion. I honestly don't mean to shove my purchase opinion down anyones throat. The SE seems like a great buy, I just think it could have been a MUCH better buy if they fit a larger screen in there.

If Steve Jobs could come back yet again, he would eliminate half of the product offerings probably. Apple is going back to the days of having too many variations of products.
I remember quite well complainers on this forums whining about lack of choices in the Apple lineup a few years ago .... Today the complains are about too many choices.

I'll only buy it if it has 2GB of RAM.

1GB and I'll stick with my iPhone 5, as it's fine for my needs, but I'm sick of apps/browser tabs reloading.
4K support and the A9 doesn't exist in a package with only 1 Gb: I would bet it has 2 Gb

Yes, I agree, which would allow them to bump this one down even cheaper ... maybe $299 still with pretty decent specs, and still sell it in the US and developed countries.
i very much believe this is what will happen. Consumers now seemingly associate 'premium' phones with a large form factor, high price and the latest tech. But there is obviously demand for a device which is relatively powerful and in this smaller form factor. Apple have (grudgingly?) had to compete with Samsung et al in producing the 6 line, in order to keep marketshare, but they know that they can sell these smaller devices still, and in great volumes. They also know those consumers don't much even care about having the latest design. That 'beloved' design of the SE probably would drive many consumers who crave a new design toward the 6/6S (and in September, the 7) and its higher pricing, despite the fact that it nevertheless will perform as well as a 6S. Apple probably could have created a 4" 6S - but that device would have a fraction of the marketshare that this new SE will have.

And in one year, how will Apple continue to tempt the more measured consumers who are less enticed by the whizz-bang of the 7? Well, they'll drop the price of the SE. They won't even have to redesign it, and it will still sell by the ton.

The front-facing camera info is incorrect here. It's actually the 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera. Also bummed about Touch ID 1.0.

Still very interested in the device, just weighing the tradeoffs from my 6s.

Same. I do like force touch on 6s, everyone seems overwhelmed by this but id honest pay another £100 for exact parity with 6s. I think its penalty enough to have to wait 6 months for the 4" phone to arrive without it also missing the flagship feature from the bigger one.

I wonder if the naming scheme introduced with the iPhone SE will carry over to this September's iPhone release?

2016
iPhone SE (Small Edition): based on 5s
iPhone ME (Medium Edition): based on 6s
iPhone LE (Large Edition): based on 6s+

Antenna lines removed/minimized, dual-lens camera, A10, 3.5mm jack removed, stereo speakers, etc.

2017
iPhone SE 2: based on 6s, maybe new design (March)
iPhone ME 2: new design (June-Sept)
iPhone LE 2: new design (June-Sept)

New designs to mark the iPhone's 10th anniversary in June 2017 with A11, mLED and real wireless charging.

Hmm Apple...

I was looking for a 64 Go ipad... now i'm disappointed...

Seriously... why starting at 32 gb ? I will buy the 128 only if one Ipad sold is 1 vote against Trump :D

Forum members aside - it's a well documented paradigm that more choices leads to greater (customer) confusion. Now with a low priced vs higher priced device decisions are usually easier. It's when you get into other "specs" that will leave consumers with more "issues" on which device to go for. Not insurmountable. But it's there.

How is it going backwards? Just because you don't like the design, or the fact that it was designed longer ago than yesterday doesn't make it somehow "backwards".

I am *overjoyed* that the design is the same as the 5S. It is exactly what I wanted out of a 4" phone upgrade that I have been missing since the 6 was announced.

I don't know exactly what he was referring to, but I have similar feelings. I owned an iPhone 5 for two years, and now I've had the 6 plus for a year and a half. I don't particularly have any desire to go back to the same form factor that I've already had for two years. I want it to feel like a new phone. I totally understand that it's just my opinion though and I'm glad most people seem to be very happy with it. I imagine part of the reason they were able to make the price so low is they already have all the equipment and whatnot manufactured to make phones this size. Surely there is some savings in the being able to re-use the old design.

And what screen size and resolution? Apple is the most valuable company and successful tech company because they give people what they don't even know they need, but also know how to deliver what they are asking for. They are not interested in providing a device that will confuse people and require developers to test yet another screen size.

Apple is an incredible company, true genius marketers. They convince their consumers they are too dumb to have a larger screen, lol. Seriously, this is humorous.

$710 CAD? WTF?
Why, oh why, do we constantly have to take it up the ass?

Heh, well $709 is still a LOT better than $1029!

Ok - then it really shouldn't be bragging point for them. They barely offer any way to view the content. Sure it's future proofing - but way into their product future. On the flip side - you can edit it (like you said) and watch it via several of their competitors products... Which seems a bit odd.

Again, it's about maintaining quality through the editing process to make better final output. Working with 4K footage will yield better results when you export to 1080p too. The Apple TV is for *viewing* where 4K isn't that important. And, Apple makes a number of products where you can view the 4K footage... most of their computer lineup, iPads, etc.

Basically, outside of editing considerations, and screen-size/distance ratio, 4K is just a spec. (And, for most consumer applications today, is simply irrelevant!)

Guess we're going to have to wait till someone can get their hands on one and get in the settings, rather frustrating Apple doesn't list it on the Specs page.

Yes, I'm trying not to get too excited until I know that. Traditionally, it didn't matter too much, but that was with the 'old' Apple where user-experience was job #1. Since they don't pay as much attention to that anymore, they might well pull another iOS 8 with the upcoming 10 or 11, which will make 1GB devices useless. That's why I won't buy *ANYTHING* Apple mobile without 2GB at this point (as they are clearly moving the product line to it... probably so they can make the next OS jump).

Again, with 'old' Apple, I wouldn't have worried, as they'd have taken care of me. But with the 'new' Apple, that clearly isn't their main concern any longer. You'll have to look out for yourself now.

You have good, affordable healthcare. Quit complaining.

Heh, no kidding! But, that exchange rate sure does hurt at the moment! But yea, we're saving money in other ways. I've never calculated to figure out how we come out overall though.

I never have this problem with my 5s. Don't see 1GB being a deal breaker in terms of actual use most most.

See above... you'll be fine (aside from how many browser tabs and app refresh, etc.) until Apple pulls another iOS 8.

Dang, if it only had 3D Touch. Anyone around here could tell me if that missing feature is a potential deal breaker or not so much? Cuz I kinda prefer a smaller iPhone than a phablet version.

I really don't care. I suppose 3D Touch could one-day be like mouse-right click in terms of popularity, but currently since I don't have it, I won't miss it. And, it isn't something I care about at this point. (And, as someone else said, I'd worry about accidentally activating it.) In terms of UI, IMO, it's kind of a bad idea... but again, right-click finally kind of standardized and became useful too, but it took many years.

For Apple, this is a budget device. I don't know if they ever had a an iPhone at this price, let alone a brand new model. I think they packed it with a lot of features for the price point. The closest device before it was the 5C and that was embarrassing in both feature set and price.

Yeah they did have a top tier phone at this price, it was the original iphone. Started at $599 and bombed big time, then a price cut to $399 a few months later. I picked up 2 of them at that price. Then they got wise and started selling them on contract for $199. Until Apple got greedy then the prices quietly went up to $650
